OUTREACH OF PHILANTHROPHIC EXCHANGE

The new features on the YouSee’s website had enabled NGOs even from remote areas to connect to the

donors. The In-kind donations exchange has geared up through this online platform enabling the NGOs

reach the donors seamlessly. Volunteers are signing up for the volunteering opportunities posted by NGOs,

as they are displayed time and skill specific opportunities, enabling volunteers to engage in predictable and

structured volunteering initiatives with Non-Profit organizations. Below Snap short gives the location and

information of all the NPOs registered with UCs exchange platform to mobile resources.

HEALTH INITIATIVES

Providing Support Services in the biggest Public Hospital in Hyderabad –

Gandhi Hospital is one thousand bedded government hospital located in the heart of the city of Hyderabad.

UC is currently mobilizing both financial and non-financial resources for this project. Below information

gives a snapshot of the facilitation done by UC.

Volunteering at Gandhi Hospital – Deployment of Health4All application

UC is currently supporting Gandhi Hospital, a 1200 bed public hospital in Hyderabad. One of the

initiatives taken up by UC is to facilitate digitization of patient

information which can support clinical and administrative work at

the hospital. A basic health Information System called Health4All is

developed and deployed in the hospital.

This Application includes many features including equipment

module, wherein all the bio-medical equipment and its status is

recorded and updated. This information can be used to track the

status of the equipment and update the records of breakdowns and

report them to service engineer. This application was formally

launched at Outpatient Registration section and also in major inpatient departments at Gandhi Hospital.

This application includes digitizing the issue of OP tickets which was earlier done manually. This

application has cut down processing time significantly at the ticket issue counters thereby allowing doctors

to screen more patients than before.

Daily screening of video on New Born Care in Mother’s room –

Daily video screening of Health Education content on New Born Care was started for Mothers at the

Neonatal Intensive Care Unit of Gandhi Hospital. This aims to make

mothers more aware of precautions that are need to be exercised

after pregnancy to ensure a healthy life for their loved one. YouSee

with the help of volunteers and support from senior doctors at

Gandhi Hospital had developed an educative video creating

awareness on importance of Breast feeding, its postures and

techniques involved to address the doubts/misconception regarding

mother and child care. A 42” inch color television has been procured

by UC and installed in the mother’s room. Efforts are also on to develop the next iteration on hygiene.

Follow up Study of Growth and Development of Babies Discharged from NICU -

A study is done on the growth and development of the babies discharged from NICU, Department of

Paediatrics, Gandhi Hospital, Secunderabad. Every Wednesday a well-baby clinic is conducted in the

outpatient ward for the babies who are discharged from NICU. Volunteers assist doctors to capture more

information that is helpful for the study. The medical team aims to achieve the following goals by this

study:

1. Gain an understanding of follow up practices of parents and arrive at suggestions to improve follow up

practices.

2. Analyze the correlation of perinatal factors and care giving practices with respect to Mortality and

Morbidity of the Baby during the growth stage.

3. Analyze growth and development of high risk new born babies.

Efforts are put on to create more awareness for mothers on the common practices.

Refurbishment of Baby cradles in NICU –

Few rusted baby cradles in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit were diagnosed

by removing the rust and re-painting. These cots were unused as the rust

might cause infections to the babies. Volunteers have donated few hours to

extend the life of these precious resources at our public Hospital. These cots

were put to reuse after the work.

ENVIRONMENTAL INITIATIVES

Increase in Communities participation in “Don’t waste Donate waste” Initiative –

This program has a unique model to channelize and reduce the waste at household level and

contribute for social projects. The waste collected at the donation camp comprises of recyclables

and reusables.

Recyclables are given to recyclers and value generated is utilized to contribute for social

work or used for environmental initiatives within by the communities.

Reusables like Clothes, Books, toys etc. are given to organizations serving the

underprivileged.

Awareness is created in the community by local Champions and participation has been increasing

every month. 2 more communities have joined this month exploring the ways to reduce waste in

their communities. The list of communities participate in this initiative are

Scaling up of donate waste initiative at Indore and Bhopal –

Indian Grameen Services (IGS) (not for Profit Company) is providing integrated services to poor

families in Indore. Majority of the beneficiaries have rag-picking as their occupation. IGS with help of UC

is providing services in the fields of vocational training, financial literacy and setting up and managing

composting units. Over 1000 households have benefited through

this program. The composting activity has been scaled at these two

cities to cover 10 large residential communities, which have their

own composting centers.

UC in partnership with Indian Grameen Services (IGS) has

extended its support for this project to be implemented at Bhopal

in May 2013. This aims at achieving twin objectives of creating

environmental impact through better citizen participation in waste

management and supporting social welfare projects through

donations from this program.

IGS conducts meetings with the management of the communities and shares the idea to recycle and

compost the waste within the community at house hold level. IGS conducts training programs to Safai

Mitra in proper waste collection at the household level, segregation of waste, processing and creating

awareness. Before IGS intervention all the waste in the communities used to get dumped into the

municipal bins. Now, after IGS intervention the waste is segregated at household level and wet is dumped

in the compost unit. Below picture gives a brief note on the waste management done in the communities

by IGS.

NEW INITIATIVES ON EXCHANGE PLATFORM

People's Library –

UC currently receives as donation, a variety of books during the

monthly donation camps. The books received during these camps are

distributed to schools/orphanages etc., run for the underprivileged.

An idea has emerged to make these books more accessible to the

people. An initiative called “Peoples library” had started. Donated

books have been selected by volunteers to start a library at a location

of their choice; residents of the community can borrow books from these libraries at specified

times scheduled by the volunteer librarian. Books are tracked by the librarian using an open

source online library management system customized by UC volunteers. It is an attempt to bring

libraries closer to people and in the process bring the community together. Volunteers have signed

up to host these libraries in 4 locations. Below snapshot gives location wise libraries in

Hyderabad. Details of the librarian is shown up when the mouse over is done and when we click

on the location the books available in that location is displayed.

Under Development -

People's Doctor–An effort to use technology to bring expert medical help to the needy.

People's Doctor is a web application that serves as an exchange of philanthropic medical

consulting given free by expert Doctors to people who are in need of it.

The system will register doctors, their specialities, consulting hours, locations and such in a

schedule that will be published online. Multiple channels such as email notification, SMS alerts,

facebook posts and messages on the website will be used to disburse information about a new

schedule or change in a schedule (including cancellation).

Patients needing services can look up the services in an interactive manner based on a map and

predefined search parameters such as city, location, speciality and so on. They can register to

make an appointment, make or cancel appointments and update their profiles.
