2020 ANNUAL REPORT
Catholic School
$ 557,915 in endowment earnings were applied to the 2019-20 school budget.
Dear Supporters of Saints Peter and Paul School,
The start of the 2020-2021 school year has brought with it numerous blessings, as I return to Saints Peter and Paul School as principal, after having graduated so many years ago. I had an incredible experience as a student at SSPP. I firmly believe that Catholic Schools, striving to form the whole child, was the primary contributor to success later in life. I am so grateful for the dedicated faculty and staff, clergy, and several close family friends who were like my extended household while I grew up at SSPP. It was within this deep faith life rooted in the gospel message which laid the groundwork of a life focused on Jesus Christ. My SSPP education, which formed me in so many ways, was the rich soil that grew much fruit in future years of my life.
Likewise, upon returning to SSPP, I hear over and over heartfelt comments from staff, students, parents, alumni, and parishioners of the lifelong friendships, family atmosphere, consistent discipline, and optimal learning environment which has created a foundation of faith, integrity, responsibility, and confidence, wherein so many graduating from Saints Peter and Paul School flourish and grow. As I begin my tenure at Saints Peter and Paul
School, it is my steadfast goal to hold tight to many of the wonderful traditions of the past, while creating a new shared vision for the future. There are numerous components to a strong Catholic School vision. Your unending support and prayers are essential to that vision as we work together to fulfill the SSPP MISSION!
The faculty and staff at SSPP are simply “ecstatic” to be back in school during a point in time in our nation when not every student has that opportunity. With exceptional pastor and clergy support, extraordinary faculty and staff, dedicated parents, and a remarkable student body, we are performing extremely well. Our kids have mastered the masks and know what it means to “social distance.” The vast green lawn in front of the ministry center has become a second classroom to our students. The creativity on all levels has been simply magnificent! Our students are in school every day, all day long, learning!
Both teachers’ lounges in each of the buildings have been completely renovated. They look to be right out of a decorator’s magazine. There has been no greater pleasure than supporting the fine work that the entire faculty and staff has extended during a time none could have imagined to be our reality this year. Classroom white boards are being upgraded, a new science curriculum has been implemented, and more. We have many goals and dreams on the horizon! While we work to beautify each of the buildings over time, it is our goal to continue the strategic plan as we make plans to open a four-year-old preschool program in the fall of 2021.
As an extension, the idea of creating an “Innovation Center” wherein a technology lab, library, and varying STREAM components would encompass a large area in Zuker Hall. The primary goal will be the on-going implementation of an engaging and rigorous curriculum offering our students competitive skills upon graduation. We want to inspire and empower students beyond traditional academics unified in a differentiated, hands-on, authentic learning environment.
There is much work to do and a wonderful foundation in which to do it. Indeed, the future is bright!
Sincerely,
Mrs. Weis ‘83Principal

Dear Members of the Saints Peter & Paul Community,
The 2019-20 school year was riddled with challenges. At every turn the Saints Peter & Paul School community rose to the occasion and, more often than not, your generosity was called upon. So, thank you! Thank you once again for your time, talent and financial contributions. Saints Peter & Paul School remains strong in its commitment and ability to deliver excellence in a Catholic school education.
Due to recent changes in Board governance, the leadership of the Advancement Board, Athletic Board and the Home & School Board now have a voting seat on the School Board. This has improved our understanding of each other’s priorities and has enhanced our unity of effort. On a personal level, it has given me a new appreciation for the tremendous amount of hard work and sacrifice made by so many to ensure that Saints Peter & Paul School can thrive in these challenging times.
Some noteworthy examples:
Last August, Frank Glowaty stepped in on short notice to serve as our interim Principal and with COVID come March both he and our incredible teachers seamlessly navigated us all from classroom to on-line learning.
Jeannette Gehrs and the talented Home & School team pulled the Spring Auction from the ashes of a COVID canceled in-person event to a very successful on-line event with the help of all of your generosity.
The Athletic Association, under the leadership of Tony Dentice and Justin Busche delivered another year of outstanding athletic programs for our students – punctuated by another memorable 80s night!
The School Board, under the leadership of Tobias Schlueter and Shannon Perrino sustained a year-long focus on completing and
launching our Strategic Plan. Among numerous other priorities, a new security entrance to the junior high building and the launch of Saints Peter & Paul’s first pre-school are close to becoming a reality.
Father Brad led us through a comprehensive search for our new Principal, Tricia Weis ‘83. Tricia, our teachers and numerous others worked tirelessly all summer to ensure our children could safely return to the classroom in August. Tricia also worked tirelessly to fill teacher vacancies and recruit new families to the school. We started the school year with full classrooms, subject to COVID guidelines, and – most impressively – a waiting list for every class.
Finally, it is a privilege to serve with every member of the Advancement Board and to be part of the rich legacy of providing for our school’s future which began in 1989 and guided since by the leadership of Frank Glowaty. The untold amount of time and energy that goes into the annual cadence of fundraising efforts is humbling. The endowment built on those efforts and your generosity allow us to withdraw nearly $600,000 in the 2020/21 school year to be utilized by the School Board for offsetting tuition increases, teacher supplemental income and school capital projects. The Advancement Board remains committed to building upon this legacy.
In last year’s Annual Report, I noted that there is opportunity in adversity. The successes noted above echo that statement and reflect an unyielding commitment by all of you to ensure Saints Peter & Paul School remains the preeminent option for a Catholic School education in Naperville. I can’t possibly list everyone that has contributed to these efforts, but thank you all nevertheless!
Sincerely,
Craig E. Bennett President, Advancement Board
