To be a scientist/engineer you have to be willing to fail

● I spent the first year of my PhD trying to control the density of the ZnO nanowires I use for my solar cells

● We wanted the make larger spacing between the wires so that we could add more layers of material to absorb light

I never got it to work!

● I was never able to control their density

● However, I learned how to deposit these nanospheres made of polystyrene (styrofoam)

● Someone else in my lab group used it to improve their project
