AH ACT to comply with the requirements of an act of Congress approved March 3, 1391, making an appropriation to com- pensate the Choc taws and Chickasaws for their interest- in the lands lying south of the Canadian River, and oc- cupied under Executive Order by the Cheyenne and Arapa- hoe Indians, as modified by Joint Resolution of Con- gross approved January 13, 1393, and for other pur-* poses. WHEREAS an act of Congress was approved by the Pres- ident of the United States on the third day of March, 1391, containing the following provision: / And the sun of two million, nine hundred and ninety- one th o us and four hundred and f i f t y dollars be, and the same - is hereby, j appropriated out of any money in the treasury, not otherwise appropriated, to pay the Choctaw and Chickasaw Na- tions of Indians for all the right, title, interest, ~md claim which said Nations of Indians may have in, and to certain lams now occupied by, the said Cheyenne and Arapahoe Indians under executive order; said lands lying south of the Canadian river and now occupied by the said Cheyenne and Arapahoe In- dians, said lands having been ceded in trust by article three of the treaty bo two en th e Un i te d 3 ta to s and sa id Ch oc t aw and Ch i ck a saw Na t ion s of Indians, whi ch was c one 1uded April twen- ty-eighth, eighteen hundred and sixty-six, and proclaimed on- the tenth day of August of the same year, and whereof there remains, after deducting allotments as provided by said agree- ment, a residue ascertained b,y survey to contain two million - three hundred and ninety-three thousand one hundred and sixty ac res ; thr ee -fourths of thi s appropr iati on to be paid t o such person or persons as are or shall be duly authorized by the laws of said Choctaw Nation to receive the same, at such time and in such sums as directed and required by the legisla- tive authority of said Choctaw Nation, and one-fourth of this- appropriation to be paid to such person or persons as are or shall be duLy authorized by the laws of said Chickasaw Na- tion to receive the same, at such time and in su?h sums as directed and required by the legislative authority of said Chickasaw Nation; this appropriation to be immediately avail-

    AMD WHEREAS, the President of the United States ap-

    proved January 18, 1893, the fo l lowing j o i n t resolut ion of

    Congress :

    Resolved the. Senate and House of Representatives of the United States of America jln Congress assembled. That the Secretary of the Treasury be, and he is hereby, directed to retain and cover back into the Treasury for ty - e i ght thous-and eight hundred do l lars of the appropriation made by Congress to pay the Choctaw and Chickasaw tr ibes of Indians f o r the i r in teres t in lands of the Cheyenne and Arapahoe Reservation, dated Marc3a third, eighteen hundred and ninety-one; which amount has been ascertained, by a recount of the a l l o t t e e s of said Cheyennes and Arapahoes, to be by that amount more than is due the said Choc taws and Chickasaws upon the purchase and settlement f o r the i r said in te res t : Provided, however. That neither the passage of the or ig inal act of appropriation to pay the Choctaw and Chickasaw tr ibes of Indians f o r their in-terest in the lands of the Cheyennes and Arapahoe reservation, dated March third, eighteen hundred and ninety-one, nor of this reso lut ion , shall be held in any way to commit the Gov-ernment to the payment of any further sum to the Choctaw and Chickasaw Indians f o r any al leged interest in the remainder of the lan ls situated in what is commonly known and c a l l e d the " leased dis t r i c t , "

    to sign, execute, and de l i ve r the release and conveyance in

    said act mentioned t o the United States of the lands therein

    described, in manner and form sat i s fac tory to the President

    of the United States;

    MOW, THEREFORE, Be i t enacted by the General Council

    of the Choctaw Nation assembled: That said act of Congress

    and said j o i n t reso lut ion , herein above mentioned, are hereby

    accepted ani approved, and that Green McCurtain, National

    Treasurer of the Choctaw Nation, or his successor in o f f i c e ,

    is hereby authorised to receive on behalf of the Choctaw Na-

    tion the amount appropriated in said act and jo int resolution

    of Congress, f o r and on behalf of said Choctaw Nation, f o r

    their interest in said lands, and said National Treasurer i s

    hereby authorized to rece ipt in fuLl to the Secretary of the

    Treasury of the United States, in the name of the Choctaw Na-

    acknowledge the releases and conveyances described and men-

    tioned in said part of said act of Congress, and to de l i ver

    the same, when so executed, signed, and acknowledged, to the

    President of the United States, as and f o r the releases and

    conveyances of the Choctaw Nation, under said act and said

    j o i n t reso lut ion of Congress, of a l l r ight , t i t l e , in terest ,

    ani claim of every kind whatsoever of this Nation in and to

    the lands described in said act of Congress,.

    Sec .3 . And be i t further enacted: That in case of

    the death, res ignat ion, or other inab i l i ty of any of said del -

    egates to act as herein provided, the Principal Chief of the

    Choctaw Nation shall appoint and commission the proper person

    or persons to act as such delegate or delegates , f o r and on

    behalf of the Choctaw Nation, with f u l l power to carry out

    as such delegate or delegates the provisions of this ac t .
