Dear Parents and Carers, End of Term 1 Well the 11 week first term is finally coming to an end. I am sure you are all welcoming your well-deserved break. I know we have a few weary bodies in various classes and those poor parents who are ready to take a breather from preparing lunches and assisting with homework. As I said to our Kindergarten students they should be very proud of themselves completing their first term of school and for the marvellous achievements that they have made. In fact all the children need to be congratulated on their hard work, efforts and a fabulous start to 2018! I would also like to thank the fantastic teaching and administration staff at Prouille for their ongoing commitment and valuable contribution to quality learning and teaching at our school. A special thank you to our School Executive, Ms. Karen Townsend and Miss Jessica Russell for their hard work and assistance. Thank you for your continued support Prouille Catholic Community as it is greatly appreciated. ENROLMENTS Enrolments are officially open for 2019. Please complete your enrolment forms and submit them with the required supporting documentation into the school office. TERM 2 School recommences for Term 2 on Monday 30 th April. Children will resume school in their winter uniform. Parents, should the unseasonably warm weather continue I will leave it to your discretion to decide if your child will continue to wear their summer uniform for the first week. ANZAC DAY During the holidays we will take time to reflect on our war heroes who fought for our freedom. We will also pray for the men and women who are wearing the Australian uniform and are still on duty. We give thanks for these men and women who defended our liberty and remembered the sacrifice that they paid for our freedom…. They shall grow not old, as we who are left grow old. Age shall not weary them nor the years condemn. At the going down of the sun, and in the morning…We will remember them”. The children will have their Anzac Assembly on Tuesday 1 st May at 10.40am. GYMNASTICS PROGRAM COMMENCES TERM 2 Next term all students will be participating in a gymnastics program as part of their class PE program. The gymnastics program will occur on Wednesdays commencing in Week 1 on 1 st May. This program will be conducted by Flip Sports. During Term 2 all students from Years K-6 are required to wear their school sports uniform on Wednesdays as well as on their designated sports day with either Mr. Meagher or Mrs. Lees. To clarify and confirm the days Prouille students are to wear sports uniforms during Term 2. Instead of class sport the students will participate in a gymnastics program and will also have sports lessons with Mr Meagher or Mrs. Lees. Meaning they will only wear sports uniforms twice a week. 2018 DOROTHEA MACKELLAR POETRY AWARDS The Dorothea Mackellar National Poetry Competition is now open for 2018. In recent years Prouille has had a great deal of success in this competition, with Mia Polselli (Year 3) being awarded the 2017 National Runner-up Prize in the Lower Primary section and the school receiving a School Commendation Award in 2016 for the overall high standard of its entries. In this competition, there are two age categories for primary schools (Lower Primary and Upper Primary) and students can write on any theme and in any style of poetry they choose. There is also an optional theme of ‘I have promises to keep’, which is a line taken from a well-known poem by Robert Frost. Students can enter up to three poems.
