Chappy’s Chat Hi All, This week I have been chatting with students about lunch box food and the importance of eating foods high in protein and nutrients. Children are continually growing and this means that their bodies need the necessary building blocks to grow strong and healthy. It is very important that they eat the right type of foods because it is their future health that is at stake. Having had four children at school myself, I sometimes would dread packing lunch boxes. Every day I faced the same problem: what to pack for lunches! It is so easy to give into the expensive option of packaged foodstuffs. You can save yourself so much money if you plan a little bit ahead. In each newsletter I will share my favourite lunch box recipes with you. I hope you enjoy them as much as we have and that it makes life easier for you when packing school lunches. Chappy Janelle

Mini Cheese and Bacon Muffins:

Put 1 cup of Self Raising flour, 1 ½ cups grated cheddar cheese, ½ cup bacon bits,

1 teaspoon fresh parsley or chives in a bowl.

Crack an egg in a measuring cup and add enough milk to fill it.

Add this to the bowl and mix all ingredients together with a spoon.

Grease a muffin tray and spoon the mixture into it.

Bake at 180 – 200 degrees Celsius for about 15 minutes or till golden.

Cool down muffins and pack them into lunch boxes or freeze them for packing into

lunch boxes later.

Enjoy! CHAPPY Janelle

Prep News The Pre Preps have come for two visits now. They have had fun joining the class for their transition. They have read a story with the teacher and completed an activity about the story as well as playdough, painting, obstacle course, and dancing. If you have a child that is eligible to come to Prep next year they are welcome to come along on Wednesday 15th and 22nd of November from 8:50 to 10:50. It would be great for them to come and join in and see what it would be like in the Prep classroom. They will get to know the teacher and teacher aide as well before their big start next year. Yours in Education Mrs Sue Jones

Star News We have been working hard on ordering numbers and two digit addition. We have also completed our Arts Project and made some interesting musical instruments from recyclable materials. Students have also completed their Literacy assessment and their Digital Technology assessment. We are completing a range of assessments until the end of term so it is essential students come to school every day to get the best results. I have uploaded all paper VIVOs in a bulk upload so if you have any at home and would like me to upload them feel free to bring them in. Students need to earn 300 VIVOs in term 4 to attend the end of year reward. There will be more on the reward day in the next newsletter. Mrs Holland

3/4 News It is a busy time in the 3/4 class with the next two weeks moving into assessment time before we start to wind down for the year. This week, students have been working on their Dance choreography as well as their Geography project about Boondooma Dam. For this Geography project, the 3/4 class went on a field trip out to Boondooma Dam a fortnight ago, with the purpose of collecting data about how and why Boondooma is significant, and why we should protect it. It was a terrific day of learning and fun. We were very fortunate to have Mr Ardrey drive us on his bus, as he was able to impart detailed knowledge and history about Boondooma Dam, having worked on the dam himself during its construction. Thank you Mr Ardrey for sharing your knowledge with us all, it really added to the field trip! We were also lucky to meet some generous holiday makers visiting the dam, who approached us and asked if we had any school based projects that they could donate a "loose change" jar towards. We thought the Kitchen Garden could certainly put the money towards purchasing some new garden tools, so a big thank you to James and Trang!

Music Count Us In A huge thank you goes out to the students, parents, family, friends and community members who attended The South Burnett Combined Schools’ “Music: Count Us In” performance in Kingaroy, at the Town Hall Forecourt on Saturday 4th November. Music: Count Us In has been running for 11 years now, however this is only the third time it has been presented as a massed choir performance in the South Burnett region. It was a very well supported event that resulted in 181 students from 8 local schools joining together as one big massed choir. Proston S.S was represented by 10 students - Sharron McConnell; Leighton Blanch; Darren Blanch; Kellie Blanch; Milla Brown; Polly Brown; Seth Cree; Sequoia Cree; Eleojo Akeje and Brewster Burfoot - well done kids! Be assured it will be a happening thing again in 2018 – with the aim being to exceed 200 students performing at the same time! Mrs Ginny Salmon (Music Teacher)

Daniel Morcombe Program: React Our students have been learning to recognise if they are safe or unsafe in the Daniel Morcombe Child Safety Curriculum. Our safety lessons will now be focusing on the second safety message: react. When children recognise that they are in an unsafe situation, we encourage them to think about what they could do to be safe again. They will have opportunities to think about ways to react using real-life scenarios. Our students will also learn that breaking the rules (e.g. saying no to an adult who is behaving inappropriately) is sometimes necessary so that they can become safe again. Please take the time to talk with your children about what they have been learning about safety and, in particular, the ways they could react if they are unsafe to make themselves safe again. Talking with your child about ways to stay safe will help them to develop life-long safety skills.
