Brigade Group has enjoyed the privilege of supporting and sponsoring a host of artistic, cultural and intellectual projects. Amongst these are

lectures, theatrical productions, music and dance performances, books covering subjects that include both Bangalore's urban heritage and its heritage trees. In collaboration with HMV, we have produced gift collections of much-loved music. Taking our involvement in music a step further, we are supporting the creation of India's first interactive music museum: the Centre for Indian Music Experience or IME, located in the Brigade Millennium enclave in J. P. Nagar, Bangalore.

Our calendars too, reflect our interests. Over the years, they have featured themes connected to the arts— from photography to architecture, from work in stone to works of nature. Our calendar this year is a tribute to painting and music, two sublime arts that stir the soul in different ways. The relationship between music and painting has long been a subject of serious discourse among philosophers and scientists, artists and mathematicians, psychologists and composers... In India, both music and painting have been deeply rooted in philosophy and religion. Legend has it that Brahma taught songs to the sage Narada, who passed it on to humans. Historically, 'sung recitation' was part of religious ritual. Musicians and musical instruments are portrayed across different schools of Indian painting and different mediums. The Ragamala paintings of medieval India, for instance, are based on the ragas. They are representative of a perfect union of art, poetry and classical music.

Taking our involvment in music and the arts a step further, we are supporting the creation of India’s first interactive music museum: the Centre for Indian Music Experience or IME, located within the Brigade Millennium enclave in J. P. Nagar, Bangalore. The IME will be a vibrant music epicenter, designed to encourage people to rediscover their connections to various genres of Indian music, from the traditional to the contemporary.

To engage, educate and entertainThe museum will be housed in a unique 50,000 sft building and will include audio-visuals, multimedia installations and interactive areas; an outdoor sound garden; and a learning centre for classes, seminars and workshops. The best experts and expertise, from India and abroad, are coming together to develop this unique cultural centre.

A milestone achievedOctober 26, 2013 marked a milestone in IME’s evolving history: the completion and inauguration of the IME building. The structure was unveiled by Sri Siddaramaiah, Hon’ble Chief Minister of Karnataka, and the function presided over by Sri S. M. Krishna, Chairman, National Advisory Board, IMET.

Other important guests were Shriyuths Ananth Kumar, MP, Bangalore South; P. V. Maiya, Chairman, IME Trust; M. R. Jaishankar, Chief Patron, IME Trust and CMD, Brigade Group; Smt. Manasi Prasad, Project Director, IME; and Dr Smt. Suma Sudhindra, Director—Outreach, IME.

A union of music and mind To commemorate the occasion, the IME organised two unique events for the public at MLR Convention Centre, J. P. Nagar (located alongside IME). The first part of the programme was ARTINTERACT, a national-level arts conclave at which seven accomplished speakers shared their views on various facets of the arts in high-impact, inspirational talks. The second featured a remarkable free-flowing musical jugalbandhi with Grammy Award-winning Pt. Vishwa Mohan Bhatt on the Mohan Veena, and child prodigy turned Melharmony virtuoso, Vidwan Ravikiran on the Chitraveena.
