Message from COOThe role of women in our society has changed for better in the past few decades. In the corporate sector, women are now occupying the positions that were previously regarded as masculine. We can now see the gender stereotypes in the society breaking slowly. However, there is still a long way to go.

Contribution of Indian women to national GDP is just 24% while the global average is 48%. The statistics indicate that we need to ensure our women enter, stay and progress in the labour market – both as entrepreneurs and workforce.

While the gender gap in both entrepreneurship and workforce is still wide, it is wider in entrepreneurship. Women’s participation in entrepreneurship is a key ingredient for the economic growth of India. They represent a vast untapped source of innovation, job creation and economic well-being. Women bring a different set of perspectives to problem solving.

At a time when India is emerging as a source of innovation across industries and drawing the world’s attention, creating more opportunities for women entrepreneurs, accommodating and nurturing their ideas will make the nation a force to reckon with.

Global Entrepreneurship Summit 2017 held in Hyderabad last month signified India’s growing strength in innovation and entrepreneurship. Telangana, and India at large, made remarkable progress in ease of doing business. Within a short period of achieving statehood, Telangana has created a robust digital ecosystem involving startups, corporates, investors and academia not just from India, but from across the globe.

Meanwhile, our own show PETEX INDIA 2017 held in November provided a unique platform for various national and international pet care brands to showcase products and services, connect with visitors, enhance brand image, strengthen existing channels and explore potential partnership opportunities. With 200+ exhibitors, 45000+ visitors and 1500+ pets participating during the two activity-filled days, PETEX INDIA 2017 is a huge success.

HITEX participated in IAEE’s annual meeting Expo! Expo! held in San Antonio, TX, USA. Expo! Expo! fostered an environment of thought leadership, best practices and innovative solutions for show organizers to apply in real time for effective results. It’s a unique trade show in the industry that brings such a diverse group of buyers and sellers together for face-to-face interaction.

As we enter the last month of the year and look back through the year, my colleagues and I at HITEX are proud of what we have achieved. We look forward to 2018 with bigger plans and responsibilities.

India is witnessing a huge growth in entrepreneurship. With more than 65 percent of the population under 35 years of age, the rising demand for next-generation services and solutions is driving the spirit of innovation and entrepreneurship.There is a growing need for inclusive entrepreneurship with a special focus on women. Women entrepreneurship is an important source of economic growth. Women entrepre-neurs create new jobs for themselves and others and also provide society with different solutions to management, organisation and business problems. However, they still rep-resent a minority of all entrepreneurs.A recent study by National Sample Survey Organisation states that only 14% of business establishments in India are being run by women entrepreneurs. The data also shows that most of these women-run companies are small-scale and about 79% of them are self-financed. This indicates that despite the initiatives taken by women to venture into entrepreneurship, there seem to be several challenges that are blocking their way. We need to identify and clear those blockages.In other studies by Master Card and Global Entrepreneurship and Development Institute, India is ranked among the lowest with regard to the existing conditions that will fuel high potential female entrepreneurship development. Women entrepreneurs, especially in In-dia and developing countries, often face gender-based barriers to starting and growing their businesses. The major barriers include access to capital, mentorship, complicated licensing process-

es, emphasis on learning and safety. Addressing these barriers and putting Indian wom-en entrepreneurs first will significantly accelerate the country’s economic development.The recently held Global Entrepreneurship Summit 2017 (GES 2017, Hyderabad) aptly made ‘Women First, Prosperity For All’ its theme. The Summit put the spotlight on how to create an environment to take the ideas of women entrepreneurs to the next lev-el and helped Indian entrepreneurs connect with venture capitalists and entrepreneurs from around the world. For the first time, the Summit saw a majority participation of women and many foreign delegations were also led by women. This proved that the world cannot be changed with-out women entrepreneurship.Following GES, NITI Aayog announced its plans to set up a cell focused on financial sup-port and mentorship to women entrepreneurs. Speaking at the Summit, Ivanka Trump, Advisor to the President of United States and an entrepreneur herself, discussed how closing the gender entrepreneurship gap worldwide could raise the global GDP by 2%. ‘‘Only when women are empowered to thrive will our families, our economies and our societies reach their fullest potential,” she said.While of Government of India’s existing programs like Trade Related Entrepreneurship PROSPERITY WITH

Assistance and Development (TREAD), Mahila Vikas Nidhi, Investment Promotion Sub-sidy on Fixed Capital, Mahila E-haat and National Mission for Employment of Women (NMEW) are creating new avenues and support systems for women to pursue and imple-ment their ideas, we definitely need to bring in many similar programs.Over the past few years, India has significantly improved on creating ease of doing busi-ness. Officials, representatives and all stakeholders should make sure that women are benefited by the new initiatives and policies.During the GES, Hon’ble Minister of IT and Industries of Government of Telangana K T Rama Rao announced the plans about “WE-Hub” (Women Entrepreneurs Hub), on the lines of the successful start-up incubator and co-working space T-Hub. WE-Hub will see the women bring out their potential and lead in various industries.Women leaders and business owners are crucial for India to increase its entrepreneurial authority and compete with the top economies. It’s time we stand with women and show the world that when women are put first we all prosper.


HITEX DEDICATES AMBULANCE FOR COMMUNITY SERVICE

HITEX dedicated a new fully equipped ambulance for community service in the vicinity of HITEX’s premis-es. The flag off was done by GHMC Mayor Shri. Bonthu Rammohan on 11th November 2017. With this new ini-tiative, fully sponsored and managed by HITEX, we aim to provide fast, friendly and efficient ambulance services for emergency need transportation of patients.

This is HITEx’s second CSr initiative.


IEIA elected its new Executive Committee for 2017 – 2019. The new Executive Committee comprises Mr. KV Nagendra Prasad, COO, HITEX Ltd. being re-elect-ed as President consecutively for the second term, Mr. Ravinder Sethi, MD, RE Rogers India being re-elected as Vice President, Mr. Bhupinder Singh, CEO, Messe Muenchen India as Honorary Secretary and Mr. Sudeep Sarcar, Vice President, IEML as Honorary Treasurer.

2017 INTERNATIONAL (BRICS) MICE COOPERATION FORUM2017 International (BRICS) MICE Cooperation Fo-rum was held from 5th to 8th November in Xia-men, China. Mr KV Nagendra Prasad, COO, HITEX, who is also the current President of Indian Ex-hibition Industry Association, headed the dele-gation from the Indian MICE industry. The forum brought together delegates from the Meetings, Incentives, Conferences and Exhibitions (MICE) sector and discussed the recent developments, current trends and future plans of MICE indus-tries in the BRICS countries and explored ways to enhance international MICE cooperation.

EXPO! EXPO!

IAEE’s EXPO EXPO was held from 28th to 30th November, 2017 in San Antonio, USA. The premier event brought together Exhibition and Event industry professionals from across the world. Mr KV Nagendra Prasad, COO and Mr Praveen Akula, Sr. Manager - Busi-ness Development represented HITEX at EXPO EXPO. Mr Prasad has been inducted to serve IAEE’s CEM Commission as a member for a 1-year term. He has also been inducted into IAEE’s Asian Advisory Council.
