The Seventh-Day Adventist Schools are operated and managed by the South East India Union of

Seventh-Day Adventists, (Dept. of Education), 197, G.S.T. Road, Vandalur, Chennai -48.

The Seventh-Day Adventists are Protestant Christians who, as the name indicates, believe in

the imminent Second Advent of Jesus Christ and keep the Seventh Day of the week as the Sabbath.

They believe that Christians delight to obey the ten commandments of God, including the

fourth commandment about the observance of the “Seventh Day” of the week as the holy Sabbath.

They also believe that the human body is the temple of God, and therefore it is the

responsibilities of every individual to take care of his or her body in the best of health

eschewing harmful substances such as alcohol, tobacco, coffee, tea and harmful drugs..

They endeavour to teach by precept and example the principles of moral ethics, spiritual

values and health habits based on the Christian Scriptures in all forms of service in which they are

engaged. It is not compulsory for any one to comply to the above programme.

They teach and practice loyalty to one’s own country and uphold all government schemes

which promote, preserve and protect basic human rights and freedom.

The Seventh-Day Adventist Higher Secondary School, Marapalam, Puducherry is one of the 6,720 educational institutions operated by the Seventh Day Adventist Church all over the world, catering to the needs of more than 1.2 million students.

It was started in the year 1956 with 20 students. The school has since grown into the Higher Secondary School with a mighty strength of more than 3,300 students at present.

It is the purpose of the Seventh-Day Adventist Higher Secondary School to help young people in developing HIGH STANDARDS which will provide a firm foundation for real character building.

Our education is based on the philosophy that “True Education is the harmonious development of the mental, physical and spiritual powers of men.'' The School seeks to maintain high scholastic standard.

Lessons of integrity, dependability and perseverance are taught in order to accomplish this.

The School sets before its student definite principles and ideals. It is expected that all who present themselves for enrolment will respect and honour the religious principles upon which the school is founded.

Seventh - Day Adventists are operating 6,720 Educational Institutions including

100 Universities and Colleges and 6,620 Schools all around the world.

RULES AND REGULATIONS

1. Irregular attendance, habitual illness and neglect of homework, disobedience and disrespect towards members of the staff, bad moral influence justify dismissal. Students are responsible to school authorities for their conduct within and outside the school.

2. Pupils will be charged fee for damage to any school property such as Furniture, Books, Science equipments, Bus, Light, Fan etc.,

3. Wearing Jewellery, Polishing nails or any other kinds of makeup or non formal hair style are forbidden strictly.

4. Students are themselves responsible for safety of their books, pens, pencils, watches, tiffin carriers, cycles or other articles they bring to the school. All articles found abandoned will be brought to the office and should be identified and claimed by the owner within a week.

5. No pupil will be permitted to go home during school hours. No pupil may leave the school premises without the permission of the Principal/Headmaster.

6. If the students eat their meals in the school campus or in the class rooms they must leave the place as clean as it was before. Wrappers, leaves etc., must be dropped in the dust bins provided in the campus.

7. Children need to converse only in English.

8. Like all other subjects moral science is compulsory for all students.

9. The use of bad languages and bad behaviour is out of place in this institution. Disciplinary action will be taken on Students who violate school regulations.

10. Students who come to the school after 8.40 am, in the morning and 12.50 p.m. in the afternoon will not be permitted in the Class. Parents are requested to send their children to school on time.

PRIVATE TUITION

SCHOOL BUS AVAILABLESchool Buses are available to bring the children from in and around Puducherry.

1. Children must have completed 3 years of age before 31st July of the academic year to join

L.K.G., 4 years to join U.K.G. and 5 years to join Standard one.

2. The Birth Certificate from the Register of Birth and Death must be produced for admission in L.K.G

3. Except for L.K.G., New admissions are based on Entrance Tests.

4. The Transfer Certificate from the other States should bear the counter-signature of the

concerned Educational Authority.

5. The Birth Certificate and the Transfer Certificate submitted once will not be returned to the student under any circumstances.

6. Student’s health book must be produced, if the students had studied in Puducherry territory.

The Academic year begins in June and ends in April .

1. The school operates on a strictly cash basis and will not be able to give extended credit.

2. Fees must be paid by cash only.

3. Tuition Fees will be collected for all the twelve months in a year.

4. Fee should be paid in advance of holidays.

5. Term Fees must be paid before each term starts. Fees defaulters will not be allowed to stay in the class.

6. Fees once paid will not be refunded.

7. A full month notice must be given in writing and a term fee should be paid in case of withdrawals.

8. If the management finds that certain parents or guardians are irregular in their payments, it may use its discretion either to ask them to pay fees in advance or to withdraw their children from the school.

FINANCE

All students must purchase Text Books. (other than the T.N. Pub.), Note Books, School Uniform,

School Tie, Home assignment Diary and other Stationery items from the school store only to maintain

uniformity and quality.

Punctuality Attendance

a) Pupils must be punctual for class on every working day. No pupil must absent

himself/herself without obtaining leave in advance

b) No absentee or late comers should enter the class without the written permission of the

Principal.

c) All pupils must be present on the first and last working day of each term.

d) Continuous absence without a leave letter for a week shall be considered equivalent to the

withdrawal of pupil from school and his/her name will be struck off from the Register.

e) Mobile phone is prohibited inside the Campus.

The school is recognised but not aided by the Government of Puducherry. The curriculum and

syllabus will be laid down by the State Board of Tamilnadu from time to time. English will be the medium of

instruction from LKG to XII Std. Tamil and Hindi are offered as Second Language from UKG to X, Tamil,

Hindi and French are offered as second languages for XI & XII classes.

Various activities and Educational guidance plans are designed to develop physical skills and co-

ordination in children. Children are trained to familiarize themselves with Reading, Writing and Arithmetic

through play way method.
