Prospective students, parents and guardians – welcome to the Cirencester Sixth Form College 2015 Prospectus.
We hope that you will find it informative and easy to use. We understand that making decisions about your post-16 choices can seem a very daunting process, so we will try and answer as many of your questions as possible in this Prospectus.
Three years ago, this College was delighted to gain Sixth Form College designation, a huge recognition of Cirencester College’s excellence in sixth form education and pastoral student support. The College has now consolidated this unique position as only one of three colleges in the South West to hold prestigious Sixth Form College status.
Sixth Form College designation has enabled us to provide some brand new, well equipped buildings. We listen to what our students want; so we are investing heavily to provide new student study and social areas which of course all have free Wi-Fi access and café style facilities.
Last year we fully opened the Nigel Robbins Building, a well-equipped teaching and learning block and this year we are well advanced with our plans to build a brand new Sports Hall with superb sports facilities. This huge investment in sport will extend to a new 3G sports pitch and more team, academy and enrichment activities in the near future.
Our new status will not change our exciting range of courses however, which range from Level 1 courses to university level provision, including opportunities in professional apprenticeships.

As Chair of the Corporation, I would like to extend a warm welcome to all prospective parents and guardians to Cirencester Sixth Form College and to emphasise the importance that we place on the partnership between you, our students and the College.
As the parent of both a former student at the College and another who is now in her second year here, I appreciate the significant and sometimes difficult choices that our children have to make at this stage in their education. I have experienced first-hand the selection process for a suitable Sixth Form and visited many of the alternative local providers. What has impressed me most about the College is that it sees the ‘whole student’, giving advice on course selection, Higher Education and careers at a very early stage of the process, thereby enabling them to make informed decisions for their future. Cirencester Sixth Form strives to put the student at the centre of everything it does.
Since becoming a Sixth Form College in 2012, one of our priorities has been to ensure that parents have the opportunity to become more involved and to have a recognised voice within the College. Adrian Daglish is our Parent Governor and has a child who has just left College and another who is joining in September. He is therefore also well placed to provide our governing body with a first-hand insight into the needs of parents and pupils.
We hope that in this way we can continually improve this vital three-way partnership and at the same time enhance the overall experience of the students’ journey in the short time they spend with us.

I believe that this College gives students an excellent spring-board to help them advance their careers. I would also like to help to improve the communication link between the Corporation and students, as I believe this is a great opportunity for students to take on a more active role with regards to their education.

If you have any concerns, issues or ideas we encourage you to contact us either by going to the Student Union office or by getting in touch online via email ([email protected]) or Facebook (search ‘Cirencester College Student Union’). We will either help directly or point you in the direction of other sources of support.
Student Union elections are held annually. Every student has the chance to run for one of eight roles which include Treasurer, Social Events Officer, Communications Officer, Vice President and President. If elected you can help to represent the student community at College Governor meetings, become involved in the Student Forum and organise fundraising events such as our current project supporting Birmingham Children’s Hospital.
As well as the opportunity to be involved in the rewarding activities that come with being elected, the campaigning leading up to Election Day is challenging and exciting; it gives you the chance to speak to a whole range of people who you might not meet otherwise and helps to improve your confidence and self-esteem.
Cirencester College has a brilliant academic and social environment which enables you to realise your full learning potential whilst giving you the freedom to enjoy the time you spend outside of academia. The Student Union aims to enhance your college experience by giving you a voice and getting you involved.

How do I make the right choice of subjects?
1 Find out as much information as possible about courses as soon as you can. This Prospectus gives you a brief description of all our courses, but for more details we recommend that you look at our online course information on our website www.cirencester.ac.uk

Choosing the type of learning that suits youWhether you prefer exams or coursework, practical or theory based learning, or are interested in apprenticeships, we will give you all the help you need. Before you are offered a place at Cirencester Sixth Form College, you will receive a 30 minute interview with one of our trained guidance tutors to help you make the right decisions.

Cirencester Sixth Form College’s A-level provision offers a fantastic range of subjects, giving students the opportunity to broaden their choices at university or in employment.
Specialist TeachingAs well as being experts in their curriculum areas, our lecturers are specialists in teaching the 16-19 year old age group. Students will be challenged to develop their knowledge and the study skills essential for universities or employment.

A-levels explainedA-levels comprise of two years of study. Currently students will study for their AS-levels in Year One and A2-levels in Year Two. If successful at both levels, students will be awarded the full A-level.
1st year AS-levels are:
• usually combined with other AS-levels in a study programme of 4 subjects, or with a vocational qualification
• suitable for students who expect GCSE passes at A*, A, B or C
• mainly assessed through end of year exams with assessed coursework in some subjects.
2nd year A2-levels are:
• suitable for students who achieve at least a grade D at AS-level, and who wish to concentrate on three or four levels in a programme of 3 or 4 subjects, or with the second year of a vocational qualification.
• complemented by A-level General Studies.
Academic PathwaysA-levels
Important changes to A-levels for 2015We are sure students and parents are aware of proposed government reforms for A-levels from September 2015. These may include:
• A-levels as a two year course, examined at the end of the second year.• A stand-alone AS-level that does not lead to the full A-level.• Some subjects being discontinued.• New content for some A-levels.
Unfortunately the exact nature of these changes has not been announced at the time of this material being published. All post 16 providers are facing the same situation, but as a specialist Sixth Form College we are confident that we can adapt to and deliver the new A-levels.
Our teams of subject specialists are carefully analysing the new specifications to decide:
• which courses are most beneficial to our students• the value of running the stand alone AS in some subjects
We would ask you to check our website www.cirencester.ac.uk as we will be posting regular updates as we receive information about these changes. The list of subjects published are those we expect to offer, but could be subject to change due to government policy.

"What I like most about Archaeology is the passion and the knowledge the lecturers have for the subject, the opportunities for fieldwork and the level and depth of investigation we use for coursework.
We get involved in every aspect of the field, from the actual excavation to post excavation work, the cleaning up and investigation of the items we find. After finishing this summer I hope to join Reading University to study for a BSC in Archaeology.

A working knowledge of accounting is crucial to the successful running of any business. A dynamic and interesting subject, accounting enables you to interpret numerical data, produce financial reports and make business decisions.
Entry requirement: At least 5 GCSEs at C grade or above including 5 from the core subjects.

AnthropologyAS-levelA2-level
Anthropology is the study of humans. It includes physical anthropology, which is about what makes human beings unique in the animal world, and social anthropology, which is about how, and why, human societies are similar to one another and yet vastly different.
Entry requirement: At least 5 GCSEs at C grade or above including 5 from the core subjects.
ArchaeologyAS-levelA2-level
Archaeology is the investigation of human culture through prehistoric remains. You will study both prehistoric religion, at sites like Stonehenge, and evidence for change in societies across the world and through time. Fantastic trips across Britain and Europe are part of this course which complements both science and humanities subjects.
Entry requirement: At least 5 GCSEs at C grade or above including 5 from the core subjects.
When I started Cirencester I had little idea of what career path I was taking and took AS Accounting to 'fill the gap'. However the last two years have truly inspired me to enter the world of accounting and I will be always grateful for that.

BiologyAS-levelA2-level
Biology will introduce you to the fundamentals of all biological systems. This will include cell structure, transport systems, biochemistry, enzymes and the role of DNA. Aspects of human health including diet, disease and immunity are explored, as well as the diversity of life and evolution.

Business StudiesAS-levelA2-level
Business Studies introduces you to the world of business decision making, from the inception, planning and launch of a new enterprise to the unique challenges of running a multi-national, global public listed company. Topics include finance, marketing and human resources.
Entry requirement: At least 5 GCSEs at C grade or above including 5 from the core subjects.
ChemistryAS-levelA2-level
Using the knowledge you have gained in GCSE Chemistry (as a single, double or triple Science), this course will develop your understanding of the fundamental concepts further and apply them to unfamiliar situations. With an emphasis on independent learning and problem solving, you will apply your knowledge through laboratory-based investigation and analysis.
Entry requirement: At least 5 GCSEs at C grade or above including 5 from the core subjects.
Course specific entry requirement: B in Chemistry OR B in both Core AND Additional Science.
Grade B in HIGHER Maths. For AS Chemistry, students not taking AS Maths/AS Use of

The Biology and Chemistry syllabuses often overlap and work really well alongside each other. You learn things in one lesson that you need for another, making you much more confident in both areas. I hope to go on and study medicine at university." "

Classical CivilisationsAS-levelA2-level
Classical Civilisations give you the opportunity to study a lively mixture of history and literature centred on Ancient Greece and Rome. Linking political, social and military history, philosophy, sociology and the arts, this course will appeal to those with an interest in a past that shapes our present in so many ways.
Entry requirement: At least 5 GCSEs at C grade or above including 5 from the core subjects.
ComputingAS-levelA2-level
If you wish to understand the concepts of computing, how computers work, and how to create software for others to use, A Level Computing is for you. Through theoretical analysis and hands-on practical work, you will learn the core principles of computing and how to apply them.
Entry requirement: At least 5 GCSEs at C grade or above including 5 from the core subjects.
Course specific entry requirement: C in Maths.
Design - 3D DesignAS-levelA2-level
This is a creative course that allows you to design and make products and artefacts. 3D Design requires high levels of visual awareness, including drawing skills and the ability to work skilfully with tools and materials. You will create functional and decorative designs in response to given briefs or project starting points.
Entry requirement: At least 5 GCSEs at C grade or above including 5 from the core subjects.
Course specific entry requirement: Grade C or a MERIT or DISTINCTION at BTEC Level 2
in an Art or Design subject. Entry may also be made
via portfolio/interview.

Drama and Theatre StudiesAS-levelA2-level
Develop your acting and directing skills to work in different theatre styles. Explore how to make a classical text come to life. Watch live theatre and learn how it speaks to its audience. Improve your self-confidence and ability to work together with others as you rehearse and perform a play. Express your ideas through essays that communicate your experiences.
Entry requirement: At least 5 GCSEs at C grade or above including 5 from the core subjects.
EconomicsAS-levelA2-level
If you want to know what society does about high prices, globally powerful firms, a limited choice of goods, underdeveloped countries and poverty, this is the course for you. You will examine questions such as “Why do pop stars get paid more than nurses?” and “Why does the government pay young people to study?”
Entry requirement: At least 5 GCSEs at C grade or above including 5 from the core subjects.
ElectronicsAS-levelA2-level
The study of Electronics will enable you to gain an understanding of the electronic circuit. You will develop the skills needed to design and build your own circuits; this course is an excellent complement to Sciences, Engineering and Computing.
Entry requirement: At least 5 GCSEs at C grade or above including 5 from the core subjects.
Course specific entry requirement: C in both Core and Additional Science. C in Maths.
Economics is an important tool in understanding the decisions of businesses and governments. College gives you all the skills and help that are needed to succeed and as long as you put the work in that is required, there is no reason why you shouldn’t get the grades you want.

English LanguageAS-levelA2-level
This course will develop your analytical skills by exploring how language is used in both writing and speech. You will learn grammatical terminology which will allow you to approach texts with impressive precision. You will also write a great deal, from play scripts to newspaper reports, and learn to analyse your own writing.
Entry requirement: At least 5 GCSEs at C grade or above including 5 from the core subjects.
Course specific entry requirement: English Language at B grade.
English LiteratureAS-levelA2-level
This course introduces you to a detailed analysis of a range of literature. You will read a broad variety of books and plays, and discuss your interpretations in class. You will also develop your essay writing skills, incorporating your own critical ideas whilst showing an awareness of other critics’ interpretations.

Vocational courses are excellent for a wide range of learners and are designed to accommodate the needs of employers as well as allowing progression to university. They provide more practical skills as well as a theoretical background. They can be taken alongside, or in place of GCSEs and A-levels .

Level 3 vocational qualifications are not solely examination based and have more portfolio based assessments, projects and assignments which contribute to the study units. This course is designed for students with a keen interest in dance who are looking for a practical and performance based approach. In two years, ‘single engineering’ leads to a Subsidiary Diploma (=1A level), and ‘double engineering’ leads to a Full Diploma (= 2 A-levels) and 'triple engineering' leads to an Extended Diploma (=3 A-levels).
The course provides a general engineering education through a mixture of electronic, electrical and mechanical engineering units, and units that are relevant to all engineering disciplines, such as health and safety, maths, and communications.
The CAD and CAM units apply modern technologies to engineering problems, and you will complete an engineering project. In addition, you will do practical work in the College workshop. Workshop time will involve short-term project work in three areas, such as robotics, radio-controlled aeroplanes and programmable micro controllers. My time at college has been amazing, I did the Sport (Development Coaching and Fitness) Level 3 BTEC and achieved Triple Distinction* and a C grade in History A level. The courses were hard but with the help and support from the lectures and tutors I gained a place at Bournemouth University to study Sports Management.
I would recommend the sports vocational courses to anyone who is interested in working in the sports and leisure industry as there are so many employment opportunities and the lecturers have vast amounts of contacts with employers both locally and nationally.
There is so much to get involved in at college and it opens up so many doors. I was part of the Rugby Academy, the Career Academy, I did an internship and I led a team of students on the NCS programme, I have also represented the College as a student ambassador, so it wasn’t just my academic qualifications that got me in to university but all of the enrichment activities you can get involved in.

This Level 1 course is designed to help students develop skills for future study or employment. It is specifically aimed at those planning to work in the hospitality or travel industry.
Students attending this course will gain a range of personal, employability and key skills. Through group work or individual activities, students will be able learn new skills which enable them to build on their own existing strengths. Students will have the opportunity to use and extend their interests and skills by preparing and offering a food service. Customer service is key to the industry, so students will learn about the principles and be given the opportunity to demonstrate high levels of customer service.
A portfolio of evidence is compiled as activities are completed, demonstrating students' achievements. Evidence will also be in the form of practical demonstrations and presentations.

Our local area gives young people a huge choice of land-based careers to choose from. These Level 1 courses can help you gain the skills and experience needed to set you on the path for a great job or, if you prefer to carry on with your studies, you can progress to our excellent Level 2 courses.
Both pathways are very practical and you will get to work with the animals at our local yard or on site here in college as well as on land-based projects in a variety of different settings. The Football Academy is a great experience, you have a full time training plan and you get to play some matches against some challenging teams. One of the best parts of the Academy, as well as the coaching, is that you take part in the FA Youth Cup where you get to play teams from the professional clubs. Football In 2013, the College introduced a football development squad for boys and girls, to run alongside our two Football Academy teams, which meant the College now has four football teams plus a girls team competing in the BCS West Midlands League. Boys who are playing well in the development squad can progress into the Football Academy.

Girls' Football Development SquadCirencester College formed its first girls football team in 2013 who have achieved success in a very short time. The team train for two lessons a week, plus they have a match day on Wednesdays.
They are also playing in the BCS West Midlands league and four of the team have gained places in Cirencester Town Ladies Team: Sian Towler, Natalie Evans, Kezia Scawn and Hannah Daglish.
I would recommend the Development Squad to all potential players who did not make it into the academy because it will help you develop your skills and the knowledge of the game, with a great coach too, who will do everything to make you a better player and move on with your football.

Joining the College Netball Academy allowed me to make new friends with a common interest and to do something I enjoy along with my academic studies. We are currently in the first division of the West Midlands League, which means we compete at a high level, which has helped me improve my game in and out of College.

I joined the Rugby Development Squad as I played for a club outside college and wanted to get more involved. The training fits in perfectly with my timetable and I went to the pre-season training and got to know some of the players within the squad and to meet the new players like myself joining for the first year. We had a very successful season with the rugby squad and we also had the wonderful opportunity of participating in the Rosslyn Park Sevens. I have really enjoyed the balance of playing rugby and College work.

How will Cirencester College support you?
One of the best things about College it is how supportive the staff members are; always offering additional support, one to ones if I felt like I was struggling. But not only lecturers, all members of staff show enthusiasm for their students to do well and be great, which is really encouraging. I am hoping to attend King’s College of London this September (2014) to study Adult Nursing BSc, and will hopefully qualify to then go on to work in an A&E Ward.
Cirencester College has the expertise to provide outstanding and age appropriate support, while recognising the need to treat students with respect and help to develop independent learning skills. We safeguard success with careful monitoring of attendance, quality of work and progress.
Specialist Support in the classroom is matched by outstanding tutorial support, which is absolutely essential for you to make the step up from school to College. All students have a Personal Tutor, who has the responsibility for your well-being and progress. Tutors can act as a link with home, monitor attendance with the help of the Student Attendance Monitors and co-ordinate subject information from your lecturers. Where possible, your tutor is linked to subjects you are studying. Sometimes students and their parents do not realise what a strong pastoral structure Cirencester Sixth Form College has. All tutors are supervised by Senior Tutors, who all have expertise in areas such as Welfare, Careers and Higher Education Guidance. They are managed by the Vice Principal Curriculum and Pastoral so individual support is central and essential to the structure of the College for every student. Your tutor is the vital link in monitoring your achievement with your current projected grades, and your future plans. They will assist with your University Applications or by directing you to Careers Advice.
The College has a clear Code of Conduct and Disciplinary Policy. We expect students to be motivated and committed and nearly all our students are, but we do know that other students may need more support to study independently and to cope with the greater difficulty of work. We have a range of study spaces from our silent Library to the buzzing Spotlight [please see page 113]. If a student is struggling with workload, individual study programmes are drawn up for them.

Cirencester College offer the Guaranteed Learner bursary of £1200 to those students who are eligible. Other financial support is available in the form of discretionary funding which can be spent on course costs, transport and meals. Cirencester College Online [CCO] offers a huge range of information and is home to our virtual learning environment so you can access course materials and submit assessments.
Academic Support is available for students with any medical condition, physical disability or learning difficulty. These include dyslexia, dyspraxia, Aspergers. Staff are available to discuss your needs at Open Events. Specialist assessments are carried out pre-entry, so support is immediately available. Services include:

• Assessment for exam dispensation
All services are easily accessible and conducted confidentially.
The College’s Information Advice and Guidance (IAG) service is MATRIX accredited, which means all students can access information, advice and guidance through their tutors and our own Careers Advisor. We have a full programme of events for Careers and Higher Education guidance including our annual University and Careers Convention with over 50 visiting exhibitors, University Open Days, Employer talks, Apprenticeship advice and opportunities, as well as step-by-step support with University applications or CV writing. We encourage all students to apply to the best universities including Oxbridge and the Russell Group. Employability advice and guidance is also available as part of our enrichment programme.
The Library offers students a quiet environment in which to learn, supported by a range of appropriate books, magazines and electronic resources. There is also a wide selection of recreational DVDs and fiction available for loan. Learning Resource Staff are on hand to help students find the information they need.
The Learning Centre, which is situated in the Millennium Building, is the principal open access computer room for student drop-in use and supported learning.
There are several Drop In Computer Access Areas around the College where students can work on College computers or access the College network via our free Wi-Fi service.

The richness of student lifeAt Cirencester Sixth Form College you will have lots of opportunities to develop skills and interests through our Enrichment programme [see pages 117-127]. You can also get involved in activities and trips or organise fund raising for a favourite charity.
We care about what you think. You can play an important role by being part of the Student Union [see page 9] or by joining the Student Forum group. This group meets monthly with key staff to discuss the student experience at the College, giving students the opportunity to discuss issues and shape the College.
Great Facilities
The College is renowned for its rural setting and green fields. This is where you will find our students relaxing on a sunny day. There are plenty of social areas around the campus where students have the opportunity to relax. Students can access free Wi-Fi from their own devices anywhere on site.
Our newly refurbished Refectory provides a rotating 3 weekly menu of delicious homemade food and healthy options. Our chef is always open to new ideas and encourages students to put forward their views on menu choices.
The Spotlight cafe is very popular with students, for having freshly roasted coffee, fruit smoothies and freshly made sandwiches, paninis and cakes. New for 2014, we opened our 'Mix & Match' pasta pots servery. The Spotlight has been extended and is a popular place where students can plug in their own laptops and tablets and access their work.
The Shop situated in Reprographics in the Hub is well stocked with stationery, art, textiles and crafts products and the Inspire Shop is full of your favourite sweets and gift ideas.
Students can access a number of Health and Welfare events, including our annual Health Week, which is run in conjunction with other local services and agencies.

Transport As a result of the increased demand from students outside our immediate area for transport to Cirencester College, we now run 25 routes in to College with subsidised coach services each day to and from the College. In addition, there are service routes from surrounding areas.
Our dedicated coaches pick up from various areas in Swindon, Cheltenham, Stroud and surrounding villages including those below. Routes may be subject to change each year.

I have been impressed by the number of different opportunities at the college, both academic, such as lectures and trips, and non-academic, for example sports clubs. I believe that I have really benefited from the infectious enthusiasm of the teachers.
I am in the girls' football team and I take part in Duke of Edinburgh and I have taken part in a neuroscience trip and a trip to the Royal College of Surgeons.

“I have taught Science and Biology for 16 years. My career actually started in research in Freshwater Ecology, and I have worked with scientists in both the Arctic and the Antarctic. I am keen to educate students about the multitude of career opportunities available through STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths).
I co-ordinate STEM activity in the college, which includes work with primary and secondary schools, universities and employers. College STEM students volunteer as Ambassadors to work with younger school students at events such as the ‘Big Bang at Cirencester’, and have the opportunity to attend a STEM Enrichment Club. STEM careers advice includes presentations from a large number of local professionals in STEM employment; and through our curriculum many students visit local workplaces to see STEM in action.
Our STEM Academy, which includes representatives from local employers as well as student reps, facilitates guidance and liaison for STEM events, focussing on development of non-academic ‘employability skills’. Students interested in STEM careers receive specific support and guidance. Those wishing to pursue a career in Medicine, Veterinary Science or Dentistry attend additional tutorials and receive targeted support which has proved extremely successful in raising the number of successful applicants to unprecedented levels.
Through the STEM and Medics/Vets tutor groups, the STEM High Achievers Group and the STEM Enrichment Club, which is open to all students, young women and men at the College will have the opportunity to get involved in projects and competitions. They will liaise with people in the broader community in order to develop their skills and learn more about the world of STEM. I hope that through understanding the role of STEM in the community, students will raise their own aspirations to achieve and enter an exciting STEM career of their own.”

I like the fact that there are so many opportunities; for example, I am part of the High Achievers Academy which focuses on developing skills which are necessary for success at University interviews, as well as in-depth discussion about current affairs and on extending our studies through the Extended Project Qualification.
I plan on attending a Russell Group University to study a Natural Sciences Master’s degree (MSci). From this I plan to take part in cutting edge research in the field of Neuroscience (particularly
focusing on use of stem cells in the brain) and

The High Achievers Academy allows students to access a tailored programme of lessons and support designed to academically challenge and prepare them for the additional demands of accessing highly competitive university and employment opportunities. Students can complete the Extended Project Qualification, attend lectures given by visiting speakers, access information regarding scholarships and other widening participation initiatives and take part in a wide variety of activities designed to broaden their knowledge and develop their academic skills. We also provide specialist guidance for application to Oxbridge and Russell Group universities and support throughout the UCAS process.
Aimed at students who are talented in creative, sporting and vocational fields, the Gifted and Talented Group will support development and offer specialist enrichment.

Young EnterpriseYoung Enterprise is your chance to set up and run a legally trading business with other students.
Choose your role from a range including managing director, finance director, sales director and more. You will find out what it is really like to be an entrepreneur.
In 2013, Swapplications completely out performed every College Youth Enterprise group that went before them. Winning the Gloucestershire Finals and then going on to win the South West Regional Final, picking up additional awards for Best Financial Management and Best Innovation along the way.
They then represented the South West at the National Finals in London where they won the award for Best Production and a cheque for £500.
2014 was the first year the college had two teams in the Area Finals with WeCharge winning two awards and a placing in six other categories and Tagvertise winning Best Innovation at the Cirencester Chamber of Commerce Awards in May.

BICCHS
Cirencester College is committed to providing students with an opportunity to enrich their education. In 2014, Cirencester students launched their own Enterprise Society. Under the guidance of our Innovation and Enterprise Manager Hannah Clark, these students have proved that given the opportunity there really is no limit or restriction on how much they can achieve.
BICCHS (Business in Cirencester College Help and Support) was set up with the purpose of providing students who wish to start their own businesses either now or in the future or who already have a business opportunity to network with established local entrepreneurs and attend guru lectures from people who have 'been there and done it'. At the launch of BICCHS guest speakers gave our audience of over 100 students highly motivational talks surrounding their own success and 10 local business people joined the students for an informal networking session.
This year BICCHS will be working with our Young Enterprise students as mentors as well as building links with the Enterprise Society at the Royal Agricultural University and our local schools.

Why did you sign up for the NCS programme?
I liked the idea of a holiday where I could meet new people, but most importantly it looked great on my CV.
What did you enjoy most about the programme?I really enjoyed the second week, I loved all the lake team building fun we had. My favourite part was making a raft and then sailing it around the lake - we won!
How have you stayed involved with NCS since the programme?I am an NCS Ambassador and Leader, which means 100 of us around the country discuss NCS social action projects. I'm also an NCS Digital Champion, which means I can make websites for NCS from training with Mozilla (Firefox). I'm also part of the Oxfordshire Youth Board which meets every four months to discuss our communities and what we can change. I'm also part of Generation Citizen, which meant I got to go to the House of Commons to discuss and promote NCS. I sign up for every opportunity they give me! These are just a few of the ways I have stayed involved!
What lessons did you learn from NCS about yourself and what would you say to a student thinking about joining the NCS programme? I learnt how to believe in myself, and how to care for others in as many ways as possible. I would say to a student who is thinking about joining: don't think about it! Just sign up! Nothing has been more rewarding in my life than NCS. It is worth every minute of every day.

NCS Summer Challenge 2015In the Summer 2015, Cirencester College will be hosting places for young people looking for adventure, fun and achievement.
NCS is a programme of activities and challenges for 16/17 year olds that will support them to develop the skills and attitudes they need to be more engaged with their communities and become active and responsible young people. It is a challenging and enjoyable opportunity for young people to gain new skills, meet people they would not normally meet, and work together for the benefit of their communities. It supports young people to realise their potential and prepare for adult life.
The young people are given the skills and support to devise, develop and deliver a social action project within the community. In the past the teams have supported various projects including young carers, mental health charities, and hospices and many choose to carry on their support once the NCS programme is complete. Feedback from young people who have participated in NCS summer events tells a fantastic story.
In 2014/2015 there will be up to 60,000 places available across England (over 45 places in Cirencester and surrounding area) and the programme will be open to many more young people in future years.
