Internship Program Prospectus

Industrial-Organizational Psychology & Human Resource Management

As part of the requirements in the Industrial-Organizational Psychology and Human Resources Management program at Appalachian State University, I am seeking a summer internship between my first and second year of the program. This internship is designed to provide me with practical real-world experience developing and applying the skills I will practice in my career as an HRM professional. I offer this prospectus to inform you of my program and assist you in your decision making process. Background Info:

Before arriving at App State, I completed my BS in Psychology at Virginia Tech and worked as a Research Assistant at Virginia Tech Transportation Institute. I had exemplary transcripts and GRE scores that allowed me to be placed in my competitive Master’s program and before arriving for an internship at your organization, I will possess one year of graduate-level knowledge in IO Psychology and Human Resources Management

The Internship Job Description:

Internships are a minimum of 400 hours (usually over 10 weeks, May-August) full-time work, to be supervised by an experienced member of the host organization. The intern should be in a position of substantial responsibility to gain experience in many functions specific to their field.

I will also be required to complete an independent project during their internship. Projects should

be directed to benefit the host organization and is agreed upon by the organization, ASU faculty, and the intern.

Host Organization Responsibility:

Generally, internships are paid positions negotiated between the organization and the intern. As a guideline, interns are paid a moderate wage (e.g., $20 per hour) for a 10-week placement.

Assign a supervisor to work directly with the student to achieve the educational goals of the internship by assigning appropriate work duties.

Schedule regular meetings with the student and provide an appropriate evaluation of the student's performance.
