Purpose

• Getting a clear picture of the activities of the following support elementsbeing worked

• Knowing the purpose of the activity in detail

• Able to seek alternatives to activities that can be done, especially tofacilitate the work

• Preventing errors when doing activities in the laboratoryidentifying the actual conditions of a particular taskanalyzing the likelihood of error for the working task

• Identifying the source of the error (error) on the issue of performancetask is done, to further look for solutions to problems such performance

• Identification of potential hazards, and appropriate correspondingprotection measures

Background

• The number of occupational risk in lab

• Error prevention activities in the lab

• Anticipation hazardous event

• Ensure personnel competency lab

• Many incidents in the lab due to an error in the lab work

• According to various sources to 80% due to the sequence of work that does have the potential dangers of its own

Task Decomposition

Aims:- Describe the actions people do structure them within task subtask hierarchy describe order of subtasks

Focus on Hierarchical Task Analysis (HTA):- Text and diagrams to show hierarchy plans to describe order

What is Task Analysis?

• what people do

• what things they work with

• what they must know

Methods of analyzing people's jobs:

Task Analysis

Task analysis is the analysis of how a task isaccomplished, including a detailed description ofboth manual and mental activities, task andelement durations, task frequency, taskallocation, task complexity, environmentalconditions, necessary clothing and equipment, and any other unique factors involved in orrequired for one or more people to perform agiven task

Who will assess : Safety assessors involved in risk assessments, ergonomists, involved in evaluations, or others who must perform an evaluative function

Method : work safety analysis looks in detail at each step of the task to see what hazards could occur, and to provide a rough quantitative calculation of their relative risks, and hence what barriers are needed.

Hierarchy description ...

0. in order to clean the house

1. get the vacuum cleaner out

2. get the appropriate attachment

3. clean the rooms

3.1. clean the hall

3.2. clean the living rooms

3.3. clean the bedrooms

4. empty the dust bag

5. put vacuum cleaner and attachments away

... and plans

Plan 0: do 1 - 2 - 3 - 5 in that order. when the dust bag gets full do 4

Plan 3: do any of 3.1, 3.2 or 3.3 in any order depending on which rooms

need cleaning

N.B. only the plans denote order

Advantage of Using Task Analysis

Ensure the competence required in accordance with

the prediction error will occur.

Detect any tendency of the occurrence of errors in the

task undertaken;

Anticipating Hazardous Event while activity in the

Laboratory
