A RESOLUTION EXPRESSING SUPPORT TO THE DEPARTMENT OF HEALTH‟S

CAMPAIGN “ILIGTAS SA TIGDAS ANG „PINAS” AND URGING ALL LGUS IN THE

PROVINCE TO PROVIDE ASSISTANCE IN THE IMPLEMENTATION OF THE

CAMPAIGN

WHEREAS, last year the Department of Health has recorded a dramatic increase in thenumber of measles cases among unvaccinated children of more than 70 percent from 453 in

2007 to 1,418 in 2010;

WHEREAS, in the past two years, DOH have recorded 66 children to have died frommeasles, an otherwise preventable and curable contagious disease;

WHEREAS, in order to address this alarming concern, the DOH initiated the “ILIGTASSA TIGDAS ANG „PINAS” Campaign, which aims 95 percent coverage with 18 million Filipino

children aged 9 months to below 8 years to be given free vaccination against measles andrubella virus;

WHEREAS, the World Health Organization has declared that the combined measles-rubella vaccine is safe, effective, and inexpensive;

WHEREAS, the Aquino Health Agenda, which aims to achieve Universal Heath Care,encourages Local Government Units to develop policies and plans appropriate to their localityand consistent with the implementation of the AHA, including the installation of instruments tosustain provision of services such as systems covering logistics management, healthinformation, monitoring and evaluation, and referrals within the service deliverv network;

WHEREAS, DOH Administrative Order No. 2010-0036 provides that Local GovernmentUnits are encouraged to mobilize and utilize local resources to organize and sustain the

community health teams and service delivery networks including provision of supplies, drugsand commodities;

NOW, THEREFORE, be it RESOLVED, as it is hereby RESOLVED, that the Provinceshall provide full assistance to ensure the success of the program in the province and to

secure the safety of Health Workers who will be going house to house to vaccinate children

against measles and rubella.

RESOLVED, FURTHER, that every Local Government Unit in the province, from the

Barangay to the City and Municipal level, are enjoined and encouraged to give full support tothe program, ensuring that every child aged 9 months to below 8 years in their areas of jurisdiction are given the measles and rubella vaccination, and for the mothers to participate inthe education drive of the Health Department.

RESOLVED, FURTHER , that a copy of this Resolution be transmitted to the differentLGUs under the jurisdiction of this province for their information and appropriate action.
