Executive Summary

The KCCA was established in 1965. The KCCA serves both the

Korean Canadian population, which is estimated at over 120,000

members and the Canadian community as a whole. In addition, with

over 5000 Korean immigrants per year entering Canada, KCCA serves

the Korean Canadian Community as a home away from home.

The ground floor of the existing facility has various deficiencies in accessibility which make full

utilization of the KCCC difficult. Therefore, the KCCA plans to renovated the front entrance, the

first floor restaurant area and the kitchen area. In addition, the KCCA will move the second floor

office to the first floor so all visitors are greeted and feel welcome at the KCCA. Finally, the

KCCA will put in an elevator in the front building for access to the second floor.

The Project Outlined

The Korean Canadian Cultural Centre (“KCCC”) has amazing potential to serve not

only the 120,000 strong Korean Canadian community in the Toronto GTA but also

the many multicultural communities who use the centre. Through the Mid-Sized

Enabling Accessibility Fund the KCCA hopes to bring new possibilities and hope to

the senior and physically challenged members of our community. In the following

pages the KCCA will demonstrate to our supporters the true need for these

renovations for accessibility at the KCCC.

The Case study on page ten shows a proven model of success in the Japanese

Canadian Cultural Association (JCCA). The JCCC is located just a mile away from

the KCCC at 6 Garamond Court, Toronto. The JCCC has received tremendous

support form the 20,000 strong Japanese community and more importantly the

JCCC has many corporate sponsors such as Toyota, Sony and Panasonic. As

shown in the case study the JCCC has played an important part in showing the

communities appreciation for their corporate sponsors.

The first phase requires changing the front doors to a sliding system which will allow

physically challenged individual and seniors easy access to the centre. In addition,

moving the office to the first floor will give all visitors access to the KCCC. Also, the

elevator in the front lobby will allow the KCCA members to access the second floor.

Lastly, the KCCA will renovate the Kitchen and dining room areas.

Finally, when the KCCA moves the main office to the second floor, we will need to

renovate the back area to create a multipurpose room that which is more

accessible for seniors and physically challenged adults. This room will need a

revamped ventilation system, windows and a sun roof to allow for the people to

enjoy the area.

Expected Outcomes

At the KCCA we hope that these renovations will allow the KCCC take the next

step in providing the Korean Canadian community with the services and cultural

programming that will allow the younger generation of Korean Canadians to

understand their identity and heritage. In addition, we hope we can offer a place of

respite to the senior generations, and the members of the physically challenged

community.

This initiative will also allow us to serve the many multicultural communities who

utilize our facilities. Through these renovations the KCCA will become a hub in

which all members of the Canadian society will feel welcome.

Finally, this initiative will benefit you, our corporate sponsors. The time has come

for the community to recognize the importance of culture and image in assisting the

Korean community, businesses and corporations. The KCCA is not only providing

culturally sensitive programming for the Korean Canadian senior community but we

are spreading the positive aspects of Korean cultural to all of Canada. Therefore,

when the second generation Korean Canadians visit the centre they will view the

positive aspect of Korea and Korean businesses and corporations. Similarly,

multicultural Canada will get a chance to see the amazing advances Korea has

made and Korea’s rich cultural history.

Finally, as the umbrella organization the KCCA is working to network the amazing

service organizations in the Korean Canadian community with the members of the

community. Through our recognition of your support the member of the Korean

Canadian community will see the important contributions you are making to our

community.
