Page 2: Proposal

I am going to create a Indie/Rock magazine, which will be similar to Q and Mojo. I think I will be able to create a unique and unusual magazine for the genre, but still keep the typical Rock features. My magazine will focus on new and upcoming bands and follow them as they enter the music industry. This will appeal to aspirers as they will be interested in knowing the steps to becoming successful. It will include reviews of their music and interviews of the artists themselves and discuss how they came into the music industry. It will also advertise upcoming events involving certain artists and different album signings that they may be doing in the near future. This will provide the readers with all the information they need to be dedicated fans and followers of the magazine brand.

Genre

Page 3: Proposal

My magazine will include interviews from the cover artist which will include information about their journey into the music industry and their plans for the future. It will also have some general background information on them so the reader can get to know them. This will be useful as they will be new artists, so people will not yet know anything about them. This will positively promote them and will then link well with promoting their concerts and CD signings. Once people have read about the artists in the interviews, they will be more inclined to book tickets for the concert.

Content

Page 4: Proposal

My magazine will convey itself as informal towards artists and this will cause the reader to form a bond with the friendly writing tone. This will give off a positive vibe to the reader as it will seen as informal and more focused on making the artists feel comfortable with talking to the magazine. Making the magazine more desirable for artists to feature in. The rock genre has a lot of competition for magazines, therefore I will have to make sure my magazine stands out from the crowd and is unique from the rest.

Style

Page 5: Proposal

For my front cover I will have the colour scheme of black, white and red as this is very stereotypical for the genre. I will have a female on the cover and hopefully use a long shot to illustrate the models body language and the clothing she’s wearing. I will make sure she’s wearing those three colours in eye-catching patterns to engage the reader straight away. I have decided that the name I'm using for my masthead will be ‘Signed’ which signifies that the magazine includes both new artists and existing ones already in the industry. This will be in black and I will make the sell-lines red to tie in with the colours in the main image.

Target Audience

My magazine will be aimed at a younger demographic, covering between the ages of 16 to 25. I will make it unique and different as teenagers are often more willing to try new unusual things, therefore the magazine should try and become desirable to them. I want the contents of the magazine to be appealing to the younger audience as it will hopefully inspire them, as a lot of the artists featured in the magazine, will be of a similar age. I am also going to price the magazine at a reasonable price which will attract teenagers, as its generally known that they have little money to spend.

Magazines success

I think my magazine is going to be successful because there is nothing else like it on sale at the moment. It will be eye-catching and different to anything else on the shelves. I think having a lower price will make it popular and having lots of interesting content will attract new readers. It will give the reader all the information they need to become dedicated fans to some of the top artists In the 21st century.

Pricing

I have decided to price my magazine reasonably low, as I think this will attract more readers and therefore sell more copies, which will make up the costs for selling it cheaper. I will make it around £1.50 as I think this is the maximum teenagers would be willing to pay every month for a copy of the magazine. Also as it is a new magazine, people will be hesitant to buy it at first so the price is more persuasive as its much cheaper than other similar magazines already in the market.

New technology

I am going to make sure my magazine is online aswell as this will appeal to my target audience more. I want to make it as convenient for people as possible. Therefore I will have a mobile app for people to download where they can have their very own copy of the magazine on their phone to read at any time. I tihnk this will help to widen my target audience too as they can then read it at their own leisure and not have to carry around a paper copy. I will also set up a website for the magazine which will include extra information that’s not in the magazine, such as links to ticket websites and photos of the different bands.
