With musician/producer Dan Harper at the helm it maintains the Invisible System sound based on improvisation and the collaboration of musicians from differing backgrounds. The music ranges from the more traditional based tracks of Dan Harper and Grasella Luigi and Mimi's Azmari band to reggae, hip hop, funk and rock fusions with Sydney Salmon, a Jamaican relocated to the Shashamenerasta homeland in Ethiopia. Teresa Brewer was a popular artist of the 1950s and 1960s who sold millions of records. Of the eight Top Ten hits Teresa scored in the 1950s including two chart-toppers (“Music, Music, Music” and “Till I Waltz Again with You”) all were recorded in mono. She re-recorded seven in stereo for her “Greatest Hits” album in 1962 and amazingly that album has never been on CD until now. Also featured on this CD is ‘Don’t Mess with Tess’, another stereo album making its CD debut in which Teresa sings standards. Four bonus tracks from singles have been added and are all re-mastered and in stereo. They have also performed and produced the score, which features the pianist Tigran Hamasyan, the guitarist Robert Jürjendal and the Bratislava Symphony Orchestra conducted by David Hernando Rico. The film is directed by Torun Lian and the main actors are Jakob Oftebro, Iben Akerlie and Bill Skarsgard. The compositions - ranging from outright originals to reimaging of Schubert - are evocative, haunting, never over-imposing on the listener; yet, unlike many film scores, are an utter joy to listen to independently of the film. Gaute Storaas’s orchestration of the score is beautifully executed, and features Tigran Hamasyan often taking the centre stage on piano, while the Bratislava Symphony Orchestra adds a spellbinding touch that renders the music timeless. Where its 2001 predecessor focused on contemporary composition by Wolfgang Rihm and others (Come un’ombra di luna - 4617192), this disc looks at Hildegard of Bingen’s Ordo Virtutum, written around 1150 and generally considered the first large-scale musical work beyond the prescribed form of the Mass liturgy. This is sacred music reflecting Medieval thought, as music and morality play are intertwined. In her creative interpretation, Belcanto leader Dietburg Spohr waives claims to ‘objective’ historical literalness. Instead, she and her fellow singers encounter the work as if it were written specifically for the Ensemble Belcanto: “We sought to free Hildegard from mystical-esoteric associations and to emphasize the work of an emancipated woman and composer.” They have been performing the music of Hildegard von Bingen since the early 1990s, and view her compositions as a joyously experimental bridge between the Middle Ages and contemporary music. Ensemble Belcanto was formed in 1986 by mezzo-soprano Dietburg Spohr, then a member of Clytus Gottwald’s Schola Cantorum in Stuttgart, drawing on her experiences in improvisation as well as choral music, classical singing and new music performance. The group has been committed to adventurous programming from the outset, and many composers have written music for the ensemble. CC72590 608917259025 HYBRID SACD2 CHALLENGE CLASSICS £13.69 CLASSICAL One of Mozart’s rarely-heard early stage works, “Betulia Liberata”, on double hybrid SACD, performed by the highly-regarded Austrian early music ensemble L’Orfeo Barockorchester and a group of fine soloists led by the group’s founder and musical director Michi Gaigg.

“Betulia Liberata” (The liberated Bethulia) is probably the least known of Mozart’s larger stage works composed during his youth - he wrote it in 1771 when he was 15. The text is taken from a sacred drama by the Hapsburg court poet Pietro Metastasio which is itself based on a story from the Old Testament book of Judith about the siege of the city of Bethulia by the Assyrians. It tells of the people of Israel and their unwavering faith in God, who alone can redeem them from a hostile invasion.

Michi Gaigg studied the Baroque violin with Ingrid Seifert and Sigiswald Kuijken and has worked and performed with many internationally acclaimed artists including Frans Brüggen, Christopher Hogwood, René Jacobs, and Ton Koopman. In 1996 she co-founded the L’Orfeo Barockorchester with the recorder and oboe player Carin van Heerden at the Bruckner University, Linz. Since then the group has evolved into one of the leading international ensembles for historically informed performance practice. L’Orfeo’s concert programmes and CD recordings are characterised by a synthesis of well-known repertoire and pioneer work. Its repertoire reaches from French Baroque suites and symphonies from the “Sturm and Drang” to music from the Classical period and early Romantics.
