Pacom have some really exciting times ahead and I’m honored to have the chance and share them with you through this newsletter. I spent the last week of September on the exhibition floor at ASIS in Anaheim, California. With the number of exhibitors reduced and the total number of participants cut by more than half compared to last year, it’s obvious that the security industry is experiencing something of a shake out. While this is not necessarily a bad thing for customers, as the companies remaining will be the competitive ones with a solid offering, it does leave room for thought. Security does not have a very high profile within many companies and as a consequence it's something customers may only invest in if necessary. To a large extent, I believe the industry has itself to blame. We need to raise the profile of security and I believe the only way to do this is when we can prove our solutions bring real value. A pro-active security system that does not only have the ability to capture an incident but rather avoid the incident all together is a significant step in this direction. At ASIS in Anaheim, we did a pre-launch of the Security Portal. This enables a Security Manager to easily get an overview of the situation in the system through a dashboard. With the Security Portal, we have created a tool for the Security Manager to become more pro-active, and this is the direction Pacom will continue to work in. Enjoy the read! CEO Introduction

As newly appointed CEO of Pacom I’m very happy to welcome you to the October issue of our newsletter.

The former estate of the publishing magnate and art collector, William Randolph Hearst contains rooms full of priceless paintings, Greek vases, oriental rugs, tapestries, rare sculptures, antique furniture, room decorations and family heirlooms. Protecting these artifacts, along with the buildings and grounds, create a massive challenge for Jack Raymond and his professional security staff.

In addition to protecting the fixed assets of Hearst Castle®, the security staff are also responsible for the safety of the more than 800,000 annual visitors to the castle and the surrounding area. An advanced integrated network of special alarms, access control systems, video surveillance solutions, and real-time monitoring stations provide the essential coverage to protect this world-renowned historic landmark.

For the past several years, Pacom Systems has been an integral partner with the Hearst Castle® in providing the latest in remotely managed security. The Pacom solution is designed to work seamlessly with the alarm, access control and video surveillance interfaces within the facility to manage this

Customer Profile: Hometown Federal Credit UnionPacom sat down with Hometown Federal Credit Union’s Information Systems & Security Manager, Mr Chris Snow, to discuss their Pacom installed security system and the overall benefits that have helped their business.

Hometown Federal Credit Union is a multi-site credit union facility based in Owatonna, Minnesota with approximately US$91 million in assets.

“Being a multi-site operation, we wanted to update our security system to be able to have one point of configuration” said Mr Chris Snow, Information Systems & Security Manager of Hometown Credit Union.

Mr Snow described how every other month or so the business would go through a change of password on the system. Mr Snow would have to go to each location to complete this process.

“Today using Pacom I am able to make changes, disable users and manage any part of the security network on just one workstation. This centralized approach has saved my department time and money” said Mr Snow.

While evaluating all the different products that were available in the market at the time, Mr Snow’s choice came down to Pacom’s unique point of difference; offering an integrated security system which made it easy to manage all security requirements including alarm, access and video.

“Pacom’s solution included other useful features which we use regularly, such as the electric door keys. We wanted to use the electric door system to eliminate the amount of keys that we had in circulation” said Mr Snow.

“If a staff member lost a key then we would have to redo all the door locks and reissue new keys to everyone. Now with the Pacom system, if someone loses a key fob then all we have to do is deactivate the FOB and reissue a new key fob, eliminating the cost of lock changes” Mr Snow continued.

“Our time clock system also works with the same key fob, ensuring all human interaction with our security network is done through one contact point.”

“Overall, the management of my security system today is easier and more reliable” Mr Snow concluded.

Pacom’s Technology Used to Wirelessly Monitor Fire Extinguishers at One of the Newest Healthcare Facilities in the USAThe John D. Dingell Veterans Affairs Medical Center (VAMC) located in Detroit, Michigan is one of the newest VA facilities in the USA. Comprising four separate buildings, the VAMC faced a challenge with monitoring more than 500 fire extinguishers across the entire facility.

Through a strategic partnership between Pacom and en-Gauge, the Detroit VA Hospital can now centrally monitor the real-time status of all their extinguishers. VAMC staff are immediately notified if an extinguisher is removed, obstructed or loses pressure. This is done from the convenience of a graphical software application which enables them to review simple floor plans to identify the exact location and status of any incident involving a fire extinguisher.

The facility’s fibre optic backbone served as the basis to signal the status of all the fire extinguishers to the centralized location. With the introduction of an en-Gauge Sensor Interface Module (SIM), each extinguisher was transformed into a supervised component of the Pacom alarm system. All the various states of the extinguisher are transmitted wirelessly to the Pacom Field Controllers which, in turn, pass the data to the Hospital’s two PCs running Pacom’s Graphical Management System (GMS) software.

An increasing number of customers, including the New Hampshire State House, have now recognized the benefits of this Pacom/en-Gaugeintegration and the impact it can have in preventing vandalism, theft and general misuse of fire extinguishers.

Tampere is the third largest city in Finland and the largest inland city in the Nordic countries.

The Tampere region is home to almost half a million people. Structural changes within different industries have transformed Tampere into a centre of modern technology, research, education, culture, sport and business.

All of the public facilities within Tampere are under the control of the City’s Information Security department (ICT). With over 160 staff, this department manages over 800 servers associated with hospitals, schools, medical centres, office buildings, sports facilities, power plants, fire stations, water treatment and waste management facilities.

In addition to meeting the day-to-day IT demands, the ICT is also responsible for the physical security where the Pacom solution is used to provide intrusion detection and access control for the City’s 15,000+ employees.

Over the next two years, it is envisaged that the Pacom system will control in excess of 2,000 readers spanning hundreds of public facilities.

The goal is to use Pacom’s browser-based (Finnish) web interface in the future to locally control doors within their respective building.

“It was important that we had a reliable solution that operated over our IT network” said Mr Juha Koivisto, the ICT Manager for the City of Tampere.

“The Pacom system enables us to have centralized control of all our facilities and offers the possibility to integrate with other security related systems” Mr Koivisto concluded.
