“ThepurposeofmusicwritingformeistoturnemotionintosomethingthatIcanhear,conceptualize,andultimatelymakeasituationobservablefroma3rdpersonperspectivesoIcaneventuallyunderstanditbettermyself,”Andrewstated.Hedefinesartasaformofexpressionfromanindividualthatcanbeobservedthroughanyofthesensesrelativetothetypeofwork,andwhereemotioncanbederivedthroughthisobservation.

TheMarylandhardrockers,IgnitetheFire,havebecomeadefiningpresenceintheEastCoastmusicscene.Formedin2011,theyhavedonecountlessshowsbothbigandsmallalongtheeastcoast,performingoftenintheBaltimore,Gettysburg,andHanoverareas,bringingtheirownhardrock,alternativemetalstyleandconnectingwithpeopleonanemotionallevel.Theyhavehadtheirmusicfeaturedon98Rock’sNoiseintheBasementoutofBaltimore,MDandstartedoffthefirsteverOperationRockFest,inFredericksburg,VA,wheretheyopenedforPopEvil,Nonpoint,SavingAbel,GeminiSyndromeandLikeAStorm.ThebandconsistsofvocalistJackGurecki,guitaristsMarkQuinnandMichaelNelsonanddrummerCaelanGregory.ThesemusiciansliveintheGettysburg,HanoverandTaneytown,MDareas,andtheywork,attendcollegeorarecollegegraduates.Theypracticeindividualinstrumentsontheirfreetimeandcometogethertwiceaweektocollaborateonsongs,practicesetlistsandrecordacousticIgnitetheFiresessionvideosfortheirYouTubechannel.BreakingBenjamin,Shinedown,AlterBridgeandBlackStoneCherryareIgnitetheFire’sbiggestinfluenceswhentheycreatetheirownmusictoday.Whileallbandmembersagreecreatingandperformingmusicisanemotionalrelease,eachbandmemberwasinfluencedtobecomeinvolvedinmusicdifferentlygrowingup.Asleadsinger,GureckisayshefirstgotinspirationtowritesongsfromthebandHIM.“Backintheday,Iwasintoreallydarkstuffanditwasmydreamtowritetheperfectlovesong.SoIjustmessedaroundwithmykeyboardallthroughouthighschooltryingtomakemydreamareality”.FindinghisinspirationinSlipknotandShinedown,Gureckisaysthattheirsongshaveadepththatnotmanyartistscancapture,andhefindshimselfanalyzingwhatmakestheirsongssogreat,tryingtoapplysimilarconceptstothewayhewrites”.Quinnbegantakingguitarlessonsandlearningcoversongswhenhewas13.“MyteachersuggestedthatItrywritingsomethingmyselfsoIdidandenjoyeddoingthatsoIjustkeptdoingthatinordertofindmysound”,saysQuinn.Hesaysthathefindsitfunandchallengingtoalwaystrytoadvanceincreativity.NelsongrewuplisteningtoLedZeppelin,PinkFloydandBlackSabbathandremembersonetimehewatchedaliveLedZeppelinDVD;hewasblownawayandjustreallywantedtobeonstagedoingwhattheyweredoing.Comingfromaroughpast,hecreditsmusictosavinghislife.Gregoryhasenjoyedwritingstoriesandlyricssincehewasakidandbeganplayingdrumsat16.Hewasinfluencedasakidtolovemusicthroughlisteningtohisdad’sfavoriterockCDsandbyplayingGuitarHero.IgniteTheFirereleasedaprofessionallymixedandrecordedself-titleddebutthreesongEPin2013,whichincludedtheirfirstsingle,Voyeuralongwith“SecondToNone”and“LivingtheLie”.In2016,theywillbetravelingtoNashvilletorecordtheirnextalbum.Astrongemphasiswasmadetowardsnotonlythemusicalaspectofwriting,butthelyricalaspectaswell.Gregorysaysthat“awidearrayofthemesaretoucheduponwithinthelyricsfrom“Voyeur’s”messageofovercomingaddictionto“SecondToNone’s”pushtofightforwhatyoubelievein”.IgnitetheFireisinspiredtomakemusicbecause“ashumanswhenyoulistentoasongyougetanemotionalconnection”,saysGregory.Gureckiaddsthatnothingismorefulfillingthancapturingyourownemotionsinasongandremindingyourselfthatyoumadesomethinggreat.Thebandstrivestoreachouttoothersthroughtheirlyricsandtranslatewhatothersarefeeling.
