Requirement : O Levels Weighting

1 Compulsory3 hours

Paper 1 (Design Study)

Paper to be given out three weeks in advance. The paper consists of two questions and candidates will be required to make a response to one of the questions on paper of size A3. Preparatory studies of not more than five A2 sheets of paper must be submitted.

2 Selection and Control of Materials and Technical Processes (30%)

Refers to the journey from boards to final submission

Meaning : From your 5 A2 boards to the final work, you applied and manipulated yourmedia appropriately. For example, you picked the right thickness of markers to do your drawings or your work shows good draftsmanship.

demonstrate technical competency in rendering and handling the chosen media.

Meaning : You show from the 5 A2 boards that you know how to use your art materials for example, the way you mix markers with color pencils through a specific technique.

Control of Materials and Technical Processes (20%)

Refers to the journey from boards to final submission

Meaning : From your 5 A3 boards to the final work, you applied and manipulated your choice of media appropriately. For example, if you chose to mix color pencils with markers, you clearly understood the steps you had to do to mix the mediums together.

Meaning : You show from the 8-10 A3 boards that you know how to use your various art materials, for instance, you know the right techniques for mixing two different mediums together.

3 Personal Response (40%)

Refers to boards

exhibit personal engagement in the preparatory studies and an original input in the final design;

demonstrate curiosity, innovation, critical thinking and reflection.

Meaning : In your 5 A2 boards, you showed you personally engaged with the theme through thinking of original ways to playing with it, but not copying all the way. For example, you did not take the easy way and create similar patterns, but you experimented by doing different things like cropping your images and looking for new and interesting compositions.

Personal Response (20%)

Refers to boards

exhibit personal engagement in the preparatory studies and an original input in the final design;

Meaning : Students should strive for originality in their work by never copying directly from sources or forming clichéd interpretations of their themes.

demonstrate curiosity, innovation, critical thinking and reflection.

Meaning : In your 5 A2 boards, you showed you personally engaged with the theme through thinking of original ways to playing with it, but not copying all the way. For example you chose not to copy the ideas presented during lesson but came up with your own interpretations of the final theme.
