THE REV. ALEXANDER G. LEONDIS

“Christ is born, glorify Him.

Christ comes from heaven, receive Him.

Christ is on earth, exalt Him.”

The beautiful and inspiring Christmas Canon reveals the inner mystery of salvation, our need to

respond to God’s call. To delve deeply into the mystery of Christ’s birth and it’s meaning for us, we must respond to His call.At Christmas, when God becomes man, He reveals the mystery of His love for us. The Church invites us to personally participate and experience this mystery. The degree of our willingness to respond to Him is the measure of our spiritual maturity.“Christ is born; glorify Him.” “Christ is born” is the revelation and “glorify Him” is our response to Him. God has become man. We “glorify Him,” we worship Him and we praise Him because praise opens the channel of true worship. As we glorify God, our soul is united with His the divine presence.“Christ comes from heaven; receive Him.” The eternal, all-powerful, all-knowing God comes to earth to dwell among us. Our response is to “receive Him.” We cannot meet or greet someone unless we respond to His or her initiative.

“Christ is on earth; exalt Him.” Christ revealed Himself, He has come to earth, and He has become a man. He empties himself; the glorious Son of God becomes a humble man to reveal the depth and breadth of His love for us. Our response is to “exalt Him,” to praise Him, to glorify Him, to magnify Him, for His love for us has no bounds, no limits. He comes to us and says, “I love you just the way you are, respond and you will experience me in a new way.”Christ’s love is revealed at Christmas when He enters our world darkened by sin and is wrapped in swaddling clothes for our salvation. He lies in a manger because there was “no room for Him in the inn.” This has a deeper meaning than the emotional realities we attribute to the denial of shelter. This same infant will grow to maturity and enter once again into the deep darkness of the tomb to pay for our sins. He will again be wrapped with clothes, but this time in a shroud. The manger of the wilderness and loneliness will once again be His, as He rests alone in the tomb. The “innkeeper Christians” will continue to reject Him, to see Christmas as a social event, merely a time of happiness and family gatherings. They too will say: “there is no room for Him in the inn” of my heart. The “faithful Christian,” however, will accept the revelation and respond to Jesus with love and experience the true joy of Christmas. Christ will be born again in his or her heart. This Christmas let us not lose sight of the regenerating, renewing, inspiring aspect of our Lord’s birth for our

salvation. Let us, like the Virgin Mary, accept God’s will and receive Christ into the depths of our being. Let us accept the seed of the Holy Spirit, as Mary did, and have Christ born in us. Christ once again is offering Himself to us this Christmas. Only we personally can choose to respond. “Christ is on earth; receive Him.” May Christ be born in you anew this Christmas and the forthcoming New Year. ^

Parish Council2010 PARISH COUNCIL

The Parish Council is comprised of the Parish Priest and the elected members of the Parish in good

standing. Twenty-two dedicated men and women serve Holy Trinity as volunteers and make it possible for the Church to function effectively on a parish level. They are our Parish Council and we offer them our heartfelt thanks for assuming the great responsibilities before God, the Orthodox Church, our Holy Metropolis and, you, our faithful parishioners.

Parish Council members serve as role models for parishioners and they take this ministry very seriously. They lead by example by attending Church services and parish events, and regularly participate in the sacramental life of the Church. By doing so, they have a true effect on the overall life of the Church.

As your pastor, I would like to personally thank them for their dedication and, on behalf of our entire parish, express my gratitude to all of them. As 2010 comes to a close, we thank Peter T. Arbes for his fi ne leadership this past year

as the Parish Council President. Holy Trinity continues to be an outstanding Christ-centered parish.

Listed here is the Parish Council for 2010 who deserve our appreciation and thanks. May the Holy Trinity bless you always.

announce that 89 students are enrolled. We would like to extend a warm welcome to our new and returning Greek School families.

The children have been hard at work with their language studies and are preparing for the annual Greek School Christmas Program to be held on December 16, 2010.

The Greek School PTO would like to thank all the Holy Trinity families for their support. Our goal is to assist

the teachers and support the children of Holy Trinity by promoting their education in the Greek language, culture and faith. We also hope to enhance our children’s experience by organizing activities outside the classroom in the coming year.We welcome your interest and ideas. We hope that Greek school will motivate our children to maintain and promote the values they have received from their parents and ancestors and keep them close to our Greek Orthodox Faith.

Please save the date for our annual “Family Greek Dance” which will be held on January 29, 2011! Please join us! ^

THE REV. ALEXANDER G. LEONDIS

There is a principle found throughout the Scriptures concerning giving that might be paraphrased like

this: When you give, you gain what you cannot buy with your money. That’s because giving sets a number of things in motion.

In Mark 14:3-9, a woman gave Jesus a gift of precious ointment. There were those present who discredited her gift calling it a “waste.” They said the ointment could have been sold and the money given to the poor. Jesus rebuked their hypocrisy. Christ always receives gifts given from the heart.

Times haven’t changed. Even today, there are those who would attempt to convince you that to give to God’s work is a waste. They say, “The Church just wants your money.” When you give to God’s work, you gain that which money cannot buy.

Concerning this woman’s gift, Jesus said, “She has done what she could.” She gave Jesus something precious; she gave the best gift she owned. There’s a message for you here. When you give to Holy Trinity, is your gift merely a token gift that satisfi es your conscience by fulfi lling some duty? Or is your gift a generous one, coming from your heart as an expression of love?

Notice what else Jesus said about this woman’s gift. “Wherever this gospel is preached in the whole world, what this women has done will be told as a memorial to her.”

You cannot buy an eternal soul, but through giving you can change a soul’s eternity. You cannot buy the blessing of God, but through selfl ess giving you can release God’s blessing in your life and in the lives of others.

Let us join hearts and hands as the Body of Christ at Holy Trinity and give our best toward his work by our 2011 Stewardship Commitment. ^

2011 Holy Trinity Photo DirectoryParish News & Updates

“I WAS TO EMBARRASSED TO ASK YOUR NAME...”My dear parishioners:

In a large parish, it is sometimes challenging to know the names of every family. The faces that you see may be familiar but their names might escape you. To help place names with faces, I am excited to announce the creation a new pictorial directory for our church family.

Olan Mills, national photo-studio, has been contacted to help take photos of each family and to help publish a photo directory. This directory will invaluable by connecting names with faces. It will also be an ideal outreach tool capturing the history of our church congregation.

Please participate! All I ask is that you have your picture taken by the professional photographer who will be here at Holy Trinity and meet with a portrait consultant at the church.

For the next several weeks, appointments can be made at the church or you may also schedule your appointment online by visiting: http://signup.olanmills.com. Once there simply click on “Schedule a New Appointment” and enter the church contract #57985.

· Every participating family or household that selects a pose for the directory will receive a complimentary church directory and also a 8”x10” portrait to enjoy.

· You only need to come to church once for the photography sitting and for portrait viewing.

· You will have the opportunity to purchase portraits and frames on the same day of photography. All portraits come with a 100% unconditional guarantee.

Please volunteer! Help is needed to run the sign-up table, checking people in for appointments, or calling for appointment reminders. This group effort will help make this historic directory a reality and I ask for your support by volunteering just a little of your time.

The scheduled dates for photography and portrait viewing are: Wed., Dec. 1; Thur., Dec. 2; Fri., Dec. 3; Sat., Dec. 4; Thur., Dec. 9; Fri., Dec. 10, & Sat., Dec. 11.

If you have any questions, please contact the chairpersons: Ted Vagelos, 732-371-3272 or Jeannie Arida, 908-654-0313.
