IT in silos traditional IT with traditional issues. Custom designed requiring lengthy procurement, custom integration, custom validation and testing, and, ultimately, custom management. Time consuming, costly, & people intensive with high probability for quality issues

Converged Infrastructure taking the physical hardware components and validating and integrating them in a common hardware form factor. This might be as simple as incorporating bladed infrastructure, or may be pre-integrated and pre-built infrastructure with element managementthis is Converged Blade Data Center. It might also include Dell products validated as part of a simple platform reference architecture, managed through plug-ins by vCenter or SCVMM.

Converged Systems this phase takes that converged infrastructure stack and layers on advanced software designed for rapid workload deployment & self-service IT delivery. It is typically contained to specific areas of the datacenter leveraging CIthis is Active Infrastructure 1.0 (Active System with Active System Manager today).it might also include Dell products validated as part of a platform reference architecture, centrally managed by ASM.

Converged Data Center this phase allows for common management across a modular data center built with modular Active Systems, as well as folding in silo capabilities within the management stack. For example, an Active System might run out of onboard storage capacity, and be able to utilize adjacent 3rd party vendor storage to accommodate the need. It might also include managing adjacent areas of the datacenter for automation including Cisco switching and NetApp storage.this is Active Infrastructure 2.0 (ASM 8.0)

Automated Data Center this phase enables the converged data center to interact with public cloud datacenters, creating the capability to burst outside the datacenter during peak hours. The IT service capability would be centrally managed, but have the capability of brokering IT services across the converged data center and public cloud. For example, when scaling to meet seasonal demand, the common IT manager could choose to deploy a workload in the cloud temporarily and then bring it back on-premise when resources become available.this is Active Infrastructure 3.0/Future

A person or organization that maintains a business relationship with, and uses service from, Cloud Providers.

Cloud Provider

A person, organization, or entity responsible for making a service available to interested parties.

Cloud Auditor

A party that can conduct independent assessment of cloud services, information system operations, performance and security of the cloud implementation.

Cloud Broker

An entity that manages the use, performance and delivery of cloud services, and negotiates relationships between Cloud Providers and Cloud Consumers.

Cloud Carrier

An intermediary that provides connectivity and transport of cloud services from Cloud Providers to Cloud Consumers.
