We are seeking a Chartered Landscape Architect with experience in Landscape and Visual Assessment to join the environmental planning team at TEP. Applicants should be able to demonstrate previous experience within landscape assessment. For a suitably experienced candidate this also offers an exciting opportunity to take a leading role in our LVIA service.

The role is based in our head office in Warrington, although for the right candidate we would be willing to consider other locations (London, Market Harborough or Gateshead) and flexible working arrangements including part-time working.

Covid-19

The Role and Requirements

We provide landscape and visual assessment to a range of clients for EIA and non-EIA development projects guided by the Guidelines for Landscape and Visual Impact Assessment, Third Edition (GLVIA 3). Our LVIA specialists often work with TEP’s in-house design team to prepare landscape mitigation schemes as part of the development proposals and prepare visualisations, verified photomontages and Zone of Theoretical Visibility mapping.

We also undertake a range of landscape assessments and studies to inform development site allocations and criteria-based policies for local authorities. Clear communication and good presentation of results are required. Our work may lead to presentation of our assessments as evidence at public inquiry and our work may become important parts of Local Development Documents.

We are looking for a candidate who has demonstrable experience in undertaking and co-ordinating landscape assessment of development proposals, landscape character assessments and preparing landscape evidence for local planning authorities to inform future local plans.

Candidates must show a keen interest in all aspects of landscape assessment and have good knowledge of the relevant parts of the town and country planning system. You should have demonstrable skills in analysis, report-writing, problem-solving, mitigation design, communication and stakeholder consultation.

You will be able to manage teams of consultants (in-house directly employed by TEP and other co-consultants) to produce consistent, high quality, well-written, concise and clearly illustrated reports. You will have skills in editing and reviewing documents.

The role requires the management of projects to ensure high quality work is delivered within budget. An important part of the role is managing projects for clients, reporting clearly and developing strong relationships.

You will be asked to help mentor and develop junior staff on projects. You will be well-supported by colleagues and encouraged to innovate where appropriate to enhance our delivery to clients.

The successful candidate will be expected to travel from time to time, including staying overnight at different locations, to meet the requirements of projects.

We envisage that this will be a full-time role for a working week of 37.5 hours, although we are willing to consider flexible working arrangements.

Person Specification

Essential:

Degree in Landscape Architecture (or similar)

Membership of Landscape Institute (LI) or eligible and able to work towards

Demonstrable experience of landscape and visual assessment and landscape character assessment (in accordance with the Guidelines for Landscape and Visual Impact Assessment, third edition) including input to scoping reports, LVIA Chapter input and informing the EIA team of any required landscape mitigation

Experience of working with GIS consultants in relation to drawing/figure preparation and landscape architects/graphic consultants in relation to the preparation of verified photomontage views and ZTVs.

Excellent analysis, problem-solving skills and good judgement

Excellent written communication skills and confident in producing clear, concise and well-written reports and good verbal communication skills. This should include the ability to review inputs prepared by others to ensure a consistent style and approach.

Ability to manage projects including prioritising and manage workloads, managing others to meet deadlines and delivering good quality outputs within budgets

Ability to generate new work through bids and targeted marketing

Hold a full driving licence.

An interest in leading and delivering our LVIA and landscape planning service with the opportunity to further grow and develop this service.

Experience in the preparation of landscape and visual proofs of evidence for planning appeals and providing an Expert Witness role
