PROJECT UPDATE - ENABLING WORKS Pathology The construction of the new Pathology unit is nearing completion. Over the next couple of weeks final work on the interiors and installation of the lab benching will be completed, then testing and commissioning of the new unit will be undertaken prior to handover and occupation. PATHOLOGY IS MOVING Pathology will be relocating to their new unit over a two week period to ensure that Pathology remains operational through out the move. Relocation of Pathology will commence 06/12/2013 and be completed by 19/12/2013. Additional information regarding the relocation will be circulated in the near future. It is envisaged that staff will be able to visit the new facility prior to Pathology moving in. Date and times to be confirmed. Pneumatic Tube System (PTS) The PTS install in the hospital is now complete. Specimen send stations are located in the existing ED and in the lobby area adjacent to theatres on Level 5 Block C (see adjacent photo). The send station on Level 5 will also have a cupboard built around the unit with swipe card access for additional security. Testing and commissioning of the PTS will occur over the next two weeks however the system will not become operational until Pathology has fully relocated to the new unit. PROJECT UPDATE - ENABLING WORKS

Pathology

The construction of the new Pathology unit is

nearing completion.

Temporary Mortuary

The construction of the temporary Mortuary has been completed and services

have been transferred from the old Mortuary to its new temporary location

adjacent to the loading dock. As noted in the previous newsletter, this temporary

Mortuary will be in operation for approximately two years until our new

permanent mortuary is built as part of the Stage 3A main works.

ENABLING WORKS - LOOK AHEAD

Other upcoming enabling works activities are;

Telstra Cable Diversions on Uralba Street

commencing late December 2013 early

January 2014.

Demolition of existing Pathology &

Mortuary buildings due to commence

January 2014.

New Maternity unit construction East of

Block A is targeted to commence on site

February 2014.

PROJECT UPDATE - MAIN WORKS

The Stage 3A town planning submission public exhibition period has closed and we are awaiting formal feedback from the Department of Planning & Infrastructure.

Main works Expression of Interest (EOI) tender package was issued to the market in October 2013 and is currently under assessment.

A way finding and signage review of the hospital has been completed.

A separate Business Case is being prepared for new car parking facilities.

Below is a picture of the proposed upgrade to the LBH main entry showing the

new public drop off zone, pedestrian ramps and stairs including the new ED

ambulance parking bays.
