OVERVIEW
The city of Norwalk is currently securing approvals from CTDEEP to utilize a portion of the Springwood Park for
the new Columbus School‚ a 66‚000-SF‚ 480 student intra-district magnet school with a multi-purpose field‚ which
will replace the existing Columbus School‚ located nearby. Langan provided engineering and land use permitting
services to support project development and obtain necessary local and state approvals. Our team consulted with
the project's Landscape Architect regarding site layout‚ circulation and grading. Langan also provided survey
services‚ including coordinating with a soil scientist to delineate the wetlands and preparing supporting materials
detailing proposed mitigation measures to assist in receiving local Inland Wetlands and Watercourse Agency
approval for the project. Additionally‚ we worked with the City of Norwalk to prepare mapping necessary for the
land-swap associated with the relocation of Springwood Park to accommodate the new school and the City's
purchase of two additional properties in the northern portion of the site.

OVERVIEW
The $180M Manhattan Greenway - Harlem River project involves the assessment of and design of structural
repairs and reconstruction of over four miles of Harlem River bulkhead from East 125th Street to East 145th
Street and East 155th Street to Swindler Cove. In addition‚ the project involves the design of a waterfront
esplanade and park to connect and extend a continuous greenway across seven blocks along the Harlem River
between East 125th and East 132nd Streets. Langan will be leading detailed site investigations that include
boat-mounted laser scans of the bulkhead tied into upland surveys and extensive engineer-diver inspections.

USCIENCES - 1ST YEAR RESIDENCE HALLhttp://www.langan.com/portfolio/usciences-1st-year-residence-hall/
Location: Philadelphia‚ PA
Client: Design Collective Inc.‚ University of Sciences ‚ Campus
Apartments
Architect: Design Collective
Services: Site/Civil‚ Surveying/Geospatial
OVERVIEW
To better meet the needs of its students‚ University of the Sciences constructed a new‚ 126‚000 SF mixed-use
residence hall on the University's main campus in the University City area of Philadelphia. The 426-bed residence
hall for first-year (U1) students is a live-learn community that incorporates numerous sustainable features to
achieve Green Globe certification. To facilitate this new development‚ Langan provided site/civil engineering
design of the open-air plaza and street-scape on the neighboring streets and spearheaded the land development
permitting process with the City of Philadelphia agencies. The tight urban site‚ combined with substantial grade
changes around the property‚ created complexity for this project; especially with respect to the stormwater
management and ADA accessible design.

OVERVIEW
A Consolidated Rent-A-Car (ConRAC) will be constructed as part of the Terminal One Redevelopment program at
Newark Liberty International Airport. The new facility will have a footprint of 700‚000 SF and include six levels of
combined public parking and rental car operations‚ as well as a pedestrian connection to the adjacent AirTrain
station. Langan is providing geotechnical and environmental engineering services to assist in evaluation of the
project feasibility. Our geotechnical engineering services included development of a subsurface investigation
program and preparation of a geotechnical report for the facility‚ including foundation design recommendations
and seismic design parameters. Langan's environmental services included development of an environmental
sampling and testing program to support project estimates related to handling and disposal of soil and

ALAMEDA POINT - BUILDINGS 9 AND 91http://www.langan.com/portfolio/alameda-point-buildings-9-and-91/
Location: Alameda‚ CA
Client: srmErnst Development Partners
Architect: FORGE Architecture
Partner: Building 9 - Tipping Structural Engineers and Millie and
Severson Inc.‚ Building 91 - Holmes Structures and McNely
Construction Company
Services: Geotechnical
OVERVIEW
When the Naval Air Station closed in 1997‚ the US Navy transferred over 500 acres to the City of Alameda. Most
of Alameda Point has since been placed on the National Register of Historic Places and this area is now one of
California's largest historic districts. Buildings 9 and 91 are the first to be readapted for reuse. Langan conducted
a subsurface investigation at Alameda Point. Selecting appropriate foundations for planned improvements at both
buildings was critical given the presence of liquefiable soil and weak‚ highly compressible Bay Mud. Langan
recommended a micropile foundation design to support a new mezzanine within the 96‚000-SF steel-framed
Building 9‚ which is supported on composite concrete and timber piles with a slab-on-grade floor that had settled
several inches over time. The 51‚000-SF Building 91‚ which is a wood-framed warehouse supported on spread
footings‚ was strengthened to resist seismic loads with new shear walls or moment frames.
