Introduction

“SAYAMBARA” is a boutique house carefully crafted by Designer Shireen Karim. The

boutique had an online presence in the form of Face book page. The products displayed got liked

by many viewers and slowly but surely the demand began to increase. The increase in demand

reached to such an influx that it was mere difficult to maintain order and at the same time

highlight specifically the customer’s choice and which customers are to be catered in which way.

We chose to build a web site for SAYAMBARA with the purpose of Customer Retention. The

site would serve both the “sales” and “Branding” purpose. The website was built using “WORD

PRESS” which is a famous CMS package and is popularly used for building blogs and online

stores.

We would show step by step procedure of setting up one’s own website.

In this website we have incorporated products mostly from the Facebook page i.e. feminine

attires of various categories using various local materials. Woo Commerce Plug inns were

specially used in crafting the website along with various other Plug inns such as “Yoast” plug inn

for Search Engine Optimization (SEO)

The main focus was given in providing a procedure where customers would view the products

and order and at the back end the administrator of the web would monitor with various tools and

plug inns like “Yoast” “Jet Pack” the stats as how many visitors visited, highlight product of the

day etc.

6

Page 7: Project Sayambara

E- Commerce overview

Basically we wanted to make a website that would enhance our brand and provide a good

platform for sales to increase and also help the entrepreneur maintaining a record of customers

being identified for the purpose of retention. Earlier we wanted the home page would emphasize

on the achievements and profile of the designer while rest of the pages would consist of her

collections.

The collections would be placed as per the designer’s request, for every product has its own

color combination and the materials are different from one another. At the initial stage we are

considering whether we could set menu bars of different materials EX- SILK, COTTON and

then once the category is clicked then the next page would show all the designs and pricing.

In addition we wanted there would be 3 buttons below every picture of the attires. The 3 buttons

would be like, order (as it is) Customize and Order.

In the 1st button i.e. the LIKE button, as soon the button is clicked; respective client would go

directly to our FACE BOOK page.

The 2nd button is simply for ordering and paying for it as it is.

The 3rd button is where a customer can order a type of product but can state their preference in

changing its color etc.

To sum it all up, customer will view the profile, select the category and then look and place their

order.

What we have done

We have attained to make a website that can act as an online store, by which we can sell our

brand’s product. It will be an E-Retailer. People will browse our website and buy the products

from our website. Customers can fulfill their payment within our website. There is a connection

to social media like face book with our website. We have a face book page in the same name as

7

Page 8: Project Sayambara

our brand where we will promote our web link, by which people can easily access our website.

And also there is face book link plug-in in our website by which people can go to directly to the

face book page from our website. Here the earning model will be direct selling.

Web Development

Company Analysis

SAYAMBARA’s main audiences are the Non Resident Bangladeshi’s who miss their culture and

heritage in foreign lands. Apart from that it also has a huge section to serve in the Fashion and

Designers circle of the country’s capital. The exclusiveness of Sayambara lies in the fact that

they provide one design for one individual client, there won’t be any repetition of the design.

SAYAMBARA’s tag line “where nature embeds in your trend and tradition” if we break down

the words then we see that the unique selling point as well as the value proposition refers to the

re modification of traditional clothes to suite the modern era and since there is no repetition of

design it advertises the Designer’s belief “attires represent an individual’s personality and

Uniqueness.

The Face Book page had been the key source of advertising as well as placing order, also it just

shows an informal statistics of how much the Brand name has spread in the form of likes and

shares. Notice there has been over 30 likes and over 70 posts reach in just a week. This is

significantly high considering the target market. The monthly likes of the page reached over

250+

Figure 1: our Facebook likes and posts

9

Page 10: Project Sayambara

Findings- From the above analysis some key findings were found based on which we had to

design the website-

It has international audience

The website had to be CLASSY

The website targets mostly late teens and middle age women

The target group is financial solvent who demands uniqueness

Considering all these findings we ventured into making the website.

CMS and Plugins

Content Management System (CMS) –

“A content management system (CMS) is a system used to manage the editorial content of a

Web site.” - Margaret Rouse

As from the above definition by Margaret Rouse (Researcher on Web Development-Tech

Target) it is blatantly clear about the definition of CMS and how it actually performs. Now one

of the key words of the definition is “editorial content” This editorial content differs from one

web site to another depending upon the need and nature of the websites. In case of

SAYAMBARA the editorial contents are the images of the products, the description and also

beautification of the web site.

CMS comes in package software’s developed mainly by authors to customize to our needs. They

all have their own unique selling features. Today there are many CMS packages such as Drupal,

Magneto, Word Press, and Joomla and so on.

On the basis of the article “Comparing Content Management Systems” by AMAL A.

ALRASHEED, SAMIR D. EL-MASRI, published in 2013

Open Source CMS Built over Unique Selling Point

Drupal Yes PHP and MySQL Database natured

Magneto Yes PHP and MySQL Allows online

very good platform

for marketing and

promotion

Joomla Yes PHP and MySQL Multiple types of web

11

Page 12: Project Sayambara

sites can be created;

also multi lingual

facilities are there if

wished.

Now the looking at the above features one may wonder why we chose WORD PRESS over the

above three.

WORD PRESS is a unique CMS package with many interesting features. According to GFYD,

an organization that invests in setting up online businesses and also provide free WORD PRESS

training, the following features are the reasons why word press is suitable for this kind of web

operations

Easy to install (locally installed so you may have complete ownership over it)

No form of coding is required to operate HTML or CSS

Upgrades are free to install and are easily available

Easy to upload and manage videos and images

Free publishing platform

These are some of the many unique features which belong to WORD PRESS. Our group

chose to work with WORD PRESS because of its easy usage, many variations and easy to

maneuver. (NOTE- These are also issues under the term “Web Usability”). It is important to

notice that our group is technologically not advanced and yet we managed to build a

successful website simply because of the easiness of Word Press

Word Press globally seemed to have a good review as well which further boosted our confidence

in using this CMS package for our project.

12

Page 13: Project Sayambara

Figure 2: snapshot of good reviews for WORD PRESS

Plugins

According to the web site www.techterms.com (a web site that mostly explains the theoretical

perspective of technical terms), a plug inn is a software that would help to add features to a

website. It is mainly the addition of functionalities

The article “Comparing Content Management Systems” by AMAL A. ALRASHEED, SAMIR

D. EL-MASRI, published in 2013 further justifies the websites definition by stating the

following

“In computing, a plug-in (or plug inn) is a set of software components that adds specific abilities

to a larger software application [15]. They are also called add inns which are used to extend

CMS's core capabilities and add new features or customize CMS's behavior and appearance.”

Many Plug inns were used for enhancing the features of the website and they will be discussed

further throughout the report.

13

Page 14: Project Sayambara

Please note that the most important Plug inn for any WORD PRESS web site is WOO

COMMERCE. Woo Commerce itself consists of many features that would enable lots of options

for any web site building.

Figure 3: Snapshot of the Dashboard after installing WORD PRESS, the arrow indicates WOO Commerce being activated and is ready for use.

14

Page 15: Project Sayambara

Web Building and Developing

It is after the CMS package and the main plug inn is installed that we may pursue a step by step

order of setting up a website.

Please NOTE- these steps are just a mere guide line, it depends on the nature content and vision

of the web site by how or which manner they would use to set up their website.

In a nutshell the steps are as follows:-

Theme This is the skin of the site which would reflect

the business purpose

Site Back up Provide backup for the site

About Us This is where a company states its mission;

vision; goal

Contact us A medium by which customers may contact us

and build trust with us

Social Media Important tool for advertisement

Add products The main content of the web site for which the

site was built

Search Engine optimization How easily Google may find us

Key word research The word that Google would look for while

trying to locate us

ThemeThe theme or skin of a business not only impacts the look but also touches many intangible

factors such as impression and reflection of the business purpose.

From our lecture note in MSC 452 it was also suggested that skin or theme should reflect the

purpose of the business.

15

Page 16: Project Sayambara

The theme we have chosen is known as CUSTOM RZ.

Figure 4: snapshot of the theme

Methodology for theme choosingThis theme had been selected after being tested on a random sampling method. In a random

sample, five women and two men were asked to visit the website and orally let us know about

their feedback.

The comments are based on the telephone conversation

- Three women felt it’s a classy website but white background is too dull

- One of the women found the looks and images to be very good

- A lot of appreciation was given to the circular photos right at the home page.

- One of the men raised the question about whether site will be visible over smart phones

or not and to his delight it was indeed visible. The theme is a dynamic theme.

16

Page 17: Project Sayambara

These are some of the feedback given to us by our respected audience. (PLEASE note- The

random audience chosen were a selected age group among 25-30. It was on the basis of the

sampling test that we decided to launch the site with the chosen theme.

Colour Choice- There were seven in built colour for this theme. After trying various colors we

decided to stick with sea-foam green. The Sea-foam Green is a rare colour in any scenario. The

colour brings a peaceful vibrant which reflects the feminine nature and at the same time it

symbolizes trendiness and uniqueness.

Backup Security is always a key concern not only for our mundane lives but also for our business. The

web business must have security. Fire wall and encryption are definitely needed for protection

but at the same time another threat that a rising web site face is the influx or web traffic. If the

web traffic increases drastically then the server might crash.

There lies another reason for providing back up security for the site. In case we make alterations

and for some reason there is a power failure or any sort of mishap, we may refer back to the

original design where we previously were.

Updraft Back up service is a service that provides back up for the web site. It first gives you the

option of saving your work. It generates a backup file i.e. stores all your work that you have done

till clicking the option is stored.

17

Page 18: Project Sayambara

Figure 5: snapshot of backup 1

Once the file is stored then you may click on the next tab which is labeled as “Existing Backup”

This tab would lead you to another page where you may check the time and date of your last

saved file

Figure 6: snapshot of Backup 2

Once there, you may click on the Restore option which would lead you back to your previous

work which you had saved.

18

Page 19: Project Sayambara

About us Page Once the theme and back up is set, we are free to work with the web site. The initial focus while

trying to set up a website would be the mission, vision and goal of the company. Here the

company would be stating its objective. In lay man’s term the company would answer the 5W

1H questions (who what why how where).

In case of Sayambara, the “about us page” has been named as “SHIREEN’s SAYAMBARA.”

The reason simply lies in the fact that the target group is already acquainted with the designer

and at the same time this is a good platform for enhancing the brand value by establishing the

fact that it is a classy web site.

In a telephone interview with one of the clients, she admitted that while searching for the Face

book page, she typed in the Designers name first, then the brand name. This acted as a guide line

for us for making decisions required to uplift the brand and at the same time state the vision and

mission of the company.

Figure 7: About us page

Please bear in mind that the words used here will have an impact on Search Engines. We will

discuss about it in the upcoming sections.

19

Page 20: Project Sayambara

Contact us page The Contact us page is a platform for building trust with the customers. It is through this page

that the consumers may place any comments or queries that they have and communicate with the

Sayambara team. Plug Inn was used to cater this page for it is an important page which requires

special addition.

Figure 8: contact us page

The page asks for Customers name and email and then provides the space for giving the

message. Interestingly one of the unique features of this form is its adjustment ability.

The administrator of the site may provide an email address where all the quarries may go, and

then enable a smart phone app where it would alert the admin as soon as the message is received.

In case of Sayambara, the admin tries to reply to the email within 24 hours. This would be a non-

written policy but would be followed with strict authority.

Social MediaThis section needs no introduction for almost every common man knows the powerful influence

of social media. Social Media such as Face book, Twitter, hi5, My Space are important place for

20

Page 21: Project Sayambara

creating advertisement. This is a good zone for picking up new clients and staying social with the

customers helps you to identify their trends and choices.

Sayambara already has a Face book page, in fact instead of starting with the mere web site itself,

Sayambara chose to start off with a FB page which helped to build its rapport with the clients

and open a new base for marketing.

Products/Contents It is after the basic pages are completed do we focus on the core of the web site. Here the core

item of the boutique shop is its women’s attire. Saree and Salwar Kameez. Now based on the

target audience and also for new international audience the product section has been given many

names but in the end it was decided to name it “Bangladeshi Collections”. Bangladeshi

Collections have been named for attracting the Non Resident Bangladeshi’s and at the same time

for future, it is also a good way of attracting Non- Bengali International Community. This would

provide a good chance to show that particular community the rich depth of the Bengali culture.

Over 30 contents have been added to the site and they have been divided into three categories,

the first two categories are segmented in terms of price while the third category itself is an

individual category.

The Saree categories are – Exclusive Saree price range>8000tk/

– Regular Saree price range<8000tk/

The third category is distinguishing enough by itself which is -Salwar Kameez. The

distinguished categories if seen carefully then it would be noticed that each attire has its own

design and own uniqueness and it is because of that the site is becoming popular.

21

Page 22: Project Sayambara

Search Engine OptimizationSEO in lay man’s term how easily a search engine may find you. The most important aspect of

any web site is to work along with Search Engines (mainly Google) rather than working against

it.

SEO is important for getting into the zone of the market and then working your way up the

rankings to earn more clients.

Figure 9: snapshot of SEO

Yoast Plug inn has been used to get a place for the web site on search engines. Yoast Plug inn

provides you with platform to write Meta data. Meta Data’s are data that are special data which

enables search engines in finding your site. Normally Meta consists of space of 120 words where

compact and precise information has to fit in so that people when searching randomly must get

the web site you have.

22

Page 23: Project Sayambara

Meta Data plays an important role as it is the unique data that would separate one web site from

another. For Sayambara we have decided on the following Meta

“Bangladeshi Sarees online varieties like tant, andi cotton, silk, muslin. Exclusive Designer

clothes - Jamdani cotton muslin silk zari online Bangladeshi saree”

This data would raise question on the minds of many, because the primary concern is word is

too less and the space is wasted. However, for providing this particular 60 character information

we have conducted a small research which goes as follows-

We have Google searched using many words and phrases that relates to products such as

Bangladeshi Saree’s online, designer sarees, cotton saree, silk saree etc. The result being Kay

Kraft, Aarong, Arnim fashions were all among the top rankers in Google.

Figure 10: snapshot of google search 1

From our little experiment we have inferred that most of the searches are done in terms of

materials and place. Hence we focused on top two key words for our site which would be the

names of dress materials and our place’s name. Hence our own country’s name has been

incorporated in the META title.

Interestingly Google ranks this web site on the first page when we type in the brand name

SYAMABARA.

23

Page 24: Project Sayambara

Figure 11: snapshot of google search 2

Bottom line considering the age group, target population as well as new market opportunities, the

Meta has been incorporated in above discussed manner.

Key word Research This is very much related to the Search Engine Optimization discussed above. It is the key words

with which Google would find our web site. For example- from the above discussion when we

typed in with various words, it showed us the web sites which contained those words in the Meta

description.

24

Page 25: Project Sayambara

Limitations

While doing the project we faced many difficulties, and there were so many limitations during

doing the website. The first problem we faced is choosing an appropriate name for our sites.

Since SAYAMBARA is one of the running businesses we choose that name for our site.

SAYAMBARA is a very unique name and it is very difficult for the people to understand its

meaning. In the ABOUT US page we have described what SAYAMBARA means and for what it

actually stand for. Then we faced another problem, which is selecting an appropriate theme for

our website. We installed about five different themes to run our website and all were

inappropriate to use. There were so many paid themes which we could not afford for this project.

Finally after two weeks we found a perfect theme for our website. While doing the SEO analysis

we also faced some problems. We encode the Meta title and Meta description but after typing the

exact Meta word in the Google search box we could not find our website on any pages of

Google. This is may be because we cannot pay Google and we cannot invite visitors to visit our

website. After that when we made a payment option on our site we cannot offer any payment

options like- payment by Master Card or with any payment Card. If there is any order from

abroad it would be very difficult to clear the payments of our clients. There are high chances the

customers will not buy anything from our website if they see there are no options of payment by

cards. The option which we offer is by COD (cash on delivery), Cheque and Western Union

Money Transfer. The payment by cash on delivery and cheque can only be done within the

country not abroad. And most of the customer did have idea about Western Union Money

Transfer and this option would be very hardly be used for payment process.

25

Page 26: Project Sayambara

Future Plan of Sayambara

Sayambara’s developing website gradually. We are working very hard to build a very well E-

commerce website for them. The first and foremost plan of Sayambara is to use a proper

payment method for the customers. So that people can easily buy the products from the website.

We are trying to use a very well plug inn for us as a payment method. So that people can buy our

products through online and other well-known payment get way in our country. We will also use

a system in the plug inn so that people can directly buy the products from offline payment

method. That means customers can buy the products from online and pay the money on delivery

time of the product. We will also use banking payment process for customers especially for the

international customers. Since Sayambara isn’t selling their products in only Bangladesh also

outside of our country. The payment plug inns will the easiest system for the whole customers.

After that we will focus on the customers of our Facebook. Now the customers are buying our

products from the Facebook. We are not informing our customers about our website at this

moment. After completing our website we will totally focus our business in our own website. We

will use a plugin in the Facebook so can the customers can directly link to our website. Already

our customers only know about our Facebook page. Website will be much helpful for them to

buy the products. Because in the Facebook page we cannot add too much information and plugin

for the customers. But our website will be well decorated. We will also develop a marketing plan

for our website and business. The marketing plan should discuss the target market, who we will

reach with this site, identify competitors, describe the different types of product advertising, and

explain product pricing, delivery and payment mechanisms. We will focus on the advantages and

the disadvantages of our major competitors in their website. After visiting their website we will

find the lacking in our website and develop that area of the website. Because we are trying to

develop our business as a top ranked boutique house in our country. We will also work on a very

well search engine in our website. So that people can find out their desired products from our

website. Search engine is the most important option for a website. We will also work on for the

Meta title and Meta description. This is very much important for us to make a good impression

for the Google. If we can do this very well then the customers can find out our website from

Google at the top area. We will also try to use a paid theme for our website so that we can

modify the whole theme as our wish. At this stage we are simply using only free basic theme for

26

Page 27: Project Sayambara

our website. We will also work to buy the domain for our business. At this stage we are using

free domain. But if we spend a small amount of money then we can buy the domain our own. IT

is especially for our security. We will also try to use a secured gate way system for customers to

buy our products. Because in our website customers will use their credit card number and

information. So security system is most needed for our website. We will also try use a good plug

inn for the website to make a direct link with our website and Facebook page. If we update any

information in the website then the information will automatically update in the Facebook page.

Also if any customer gives any comment or feedback in the Facebook page then that will directly

update in the website. This will reduce our time and reduces our double working. We have to

come up with the world latest technologies. Because we are doing our business in E-commerce.

Google always like that website who focus on modern technologies. So research and

development is always necessary for E-commerce site. Those mentioned ideas will be our future

plan to develop our business.

27

Page 28: Project Sayambara

ConclusionSayambara has not been launched in the market yet however it already has a huge international

and domestic market. This web site would be a delight for the customers for they may view

products and order them in an easier way.

Sayambara has used its features well to address both markets and at the same time bear in mind

with their vision mission and Goal.
