Please accept our best wishes for a very Happy New Year

As we bid adieu to 2004, we look at some of the key activities

that were memorable during the year.

In a small way, we had the opportunity to shape up theAPTRANSCO’s efforts in bringing reliability to the

transmission side. Starting in June 2003 with Dow

Corning 5 Compound, that’s now become generic for

arcing and flashover protection of insulators, the success

of the product lined up the job of bringing longer-term

protection to insulators with Dow Corning High Voltage

Insulator Coating – Sylgard HVIC. The scope of the

activity included the supply and apply of coatings to the

Bus Coupler Bay at Kalapaka 400 KV SS.

The entire infrastructure was lined up in terms of

equipments, safety training for working at heights, coating methodologies and over 60% of the job was

completed in 2004. Take a look at some of the pictures

below.

Sylgard HVIC Application

Most of the other industries continued to rely on the time tested

Dow Corning 5 Compound and 3099 Compound.

Project Sales Corp, with the most complete line of sealing

compounds and materials was awarded the job of sealingthe Valve Hall, the heart of a HVDC station against

ingress of dust, moisture, water and smoke. A multi-

pronged strategy was adopted with various materials as

you can see below.

Over 200 equipments including CTs, CVTs, Isolators, pilots,

tension strings, etc were coated with over 500 kgs of Sylgard

HVIC, many at heights above 20 metres. Safety training of the

painters were an integral part of the exercise with Pentasafe Team

from Mumbai providing the fall protection equipment and

training.

In 2005 we look forward to finishing the remaining part of the job

in the 1st quarter.

These product when applied over the

insulators form a hydrophobic layer

that prevents formation of a

continuous path over the insulator

surface.

Formulated with Dow Corning select

  phenymethyl fluids with arc resistant

additives, they provide unmatched

 protection against flashovers.
