Brief History

KSB Pakistan is an affiliate company of the world famous German KSB Group, which was founded in 1871. the KSB Group is among the leading companies in the field of pumps and valves with subsidiaries and affiliated companies all over the world. The KSB name stands for the highest standards of product and service quality.

KSB Pakistan was established in July 1959 in Lahore. The production facilities at Hassanabdal were completed in 1964 and a full-fledged foundry was commissioned in the same premised in 1980. The Company Is ISO 9001 cerified since 1994 and lately has added ISO-14001 and 18001 certifications for

complete integrated Management System certified by TUV, Germany. Now Company employs over 350 people, operates through its Sales Offices at Lahore, Karachi, Management Association of Pakistan.

A Managerial View of KSB

Planning

In KSB Pumps the Board of Director are involve in planning process. They are plan about the company will chase goals aimed at achievement of quality excellence and succeed as profitable business. These results will be achieved by the committed effort of each employee in conjunction with supportive participation from the top management as well as the department level management.

Organizing

The structure and the design of KSB are based upon the principal of lean and flat organization with minimum required layers. It makes the employee more relax but more committed to their works, communication is very fast and easy with in the organization due to its flatness and less layers.

KSB has a strong HR department which is handling the internal and external workforce effectively, which includes the total manpower and employees at the KSB Pumps plant and office, all the decisions are being made in the HR department including the recruitment. Selection and then goes on with the motivation of the employees. HR department at KSB Pumps polyester is handling the both permanent and contract workers and employees. Tools and motivations are being used differently for both types of employees and workers by the organization. The hiring of the new employees is the responsibility of HR, and it goes on frequent basis due to job rotation of the employees in other areas and business working under the brand name of KSB Pumps. The recruitment is done by the HR and they do mostly collage (campus) recruitment but this method is executed in just cases of Ghulam Ishaq Khan University, I.B.A while in the cases of Punjab University and U.E.T online recruiting is being done. Then their training and other adjustment are also being done by the same department.

Communication

Communication with in the organization is very easy and efficient; KSB Pumps use to arrange meetings and formal communication sessions on routine basis, which communicate the problems and issues at the both ends, downwards and upwards. In offices LOTUS Notes software is being used to communicate internally. Daily messages and mails can be sent to each other by this.

Leading

All the departments are lead by the department heads who report to the business head, the strong collaboration can b y seen in work groups and teams at KSB Pumps, many teams are working together. More emphasize on teams are in marketing department where those teams are indulged in doing business researches and planning for increasing sales of polyester. One of these teams is named as “Technical Services Team” which has four members from the marketing department, they visit the customers firms and the plant to get the effectiveness and efficiency update from their side that either our product is completing their requirements and is up to the mark or not. It also provide free services to the customer to increase their loyalty with KSB Pumps, thus they conveys the customer’s complaints and further requirements to the producers and updates to the production team about the condition of the market.

Many motivational techniques are being used in the organization: this is based upon performance management and remuneration policy. Wages given by KSB Pumps are motivating by its own, other facilities given to the employees and workers are considerably higher than the other multinational firms working in the country that’s why employee just go on job rotation instead of job leaving. Performance appraisals are being conducted which leads to reward and promotions. Free trips and refresher courses in the country and abroad as well are being arranged for the permanent employees and for contract workers and employees most frequently event management is being done, where they can have fun with friends, colleagues and families. Lunch and other eatables are available at the lowest prices and the equality of food is very good. These all motivational techniques are the big source of satisfaction for the employees working at KSB Pumps.

Different leadership styles are being used by the managers under different circumstances.

Controlling

The basic controlling authorities are the heads of the departments who hold the control over the issues regarding their departments and premises. Every one is accountable for his or her acetyl through financial remit and clear cut accountabilities a every thing has been made clear about law and order. Controlling against frauds and illegal issues is done very effectively, and a complete code of conduct is being told to every person present at KSSB so may that prevent from such incidents, but if some thing b ad happens organization and authorities handle that through company’s ethical policy and financial remit. In the case of serious matters if the person is found guilty he is dismissed instantly.

My experience and learning at KSB Pumps

We had an opportunity to get my first in field experience through the esteemed organization KSB Pumps. We completed our project in 4 days. We learn a lot in the KSB Pumps during the project.

Swot Analysis

Strengths

KSB Pumps is a multinational firm and producing as the strategy of world class and under the ISO certificates it is its strength. It is the largest polyester manufacturer in Pakistan and producing the export quality polyester fiber.

Weaknesses

KSB is not having and effective marketing department because up to my thinking if a marketing department is effective the bulk in the ware house is kept should be all resolved and sold out.

Threats

Many polyester firms are established in Pakistan and they have made their share instantly. Most leading textile firms are also coming in this business for cutting their costs it is the biggest threat for the KSB and those firms are mostly run privately and there is no limit and line between ethical and unethical. Whereas KSB Pumps is just focusing upon quality this game done by other firms can cut the list of customers of KSB.

One and other threat which is for all the polyester industry is that the effect of global warming and increasing the period of summer and hot weather can gradually make the consumption of Pumps.

Opportunities

KSB can be innovative by focusing upon new usage of Pumps and it can use its strengths for this purpose.

There were quite a few problems and we have to narrow down my scope of activates due to company policies. They were as follows

KSB Pumps should emphasize upon the strengths and opportunities. It should make its marketing department more effective because just the catering order and fulfill that is not the responsibility of this department. According to the project we will recommend the organization to cater just that number of members of the company to whom they can adjust at tasks.
