BACKGROUND
Zimbabwe had a generating capacity of
about 2100MW of electricity but as of 29March 2012 its electricity production stood at
1120MW.
Zimbabwe however has a power
consumption of about 2500MW,therefore
production does not meet demand.

At present the below mentioned generator
related problems have affected production
in the countrys power stations.
Generator rotor earth fault
Generator winding problems
Rotor vibration problems
Shorted rotor turnsBreakdown in ground wall insulation
Thermal cycling and coil abrasion in the
slot.

The desire to ease the countrys electricity
problems involves utilizing some of the
nation's idle lying biomass points.
For the points to be utilized electric power
plants need to be designed which leads to
the DEVELOPMENT OF HIGH SPEED
ELECTRIC GENERATORS for utilization
in small and large scale power plants.

Most of the generators being used in our
power plants in Zimbabwe have long
outlived their life spans and new designs
are needed
Improvements in electrical machine design
in the 21st century have made it possible to
redesign electrical machines to solveexisting design problems
Power plant generators are not
manufactured in Zimbabwe.

The new design seeks to come out with an
electrical power plant generator that
should
Adapt to processes with high power plant
efficiency
Meet increasingly stringent requirements
for operating behaviourHave lower size and weight so as to be
cost effective as well as durable and
minimises the generator faults.

Learn relevant design skills including
production of design drawings using
relevant computer software.
Establish production methods for model
with the help of a local company,
organization and or institution using locally
available resources.Perform calculations, develop detailed
drawings and design sheet for RET model
And evaluate performance

Although the country Zimbabwe has abundantrenewable resources they however have not
been fully utilized.
Small hydro projects producing power in theoutput ranges of 1-10KW are popular in Africa
but however not in Zimbabwe.
Few biomass power plants exist especially in
Zimbabwe where we have Triangle Ltd as one
of the biomass power plant points. These
companies have not extended their electricity
supply to neighboring communities.
