    ABOUT IOC

    Indian Oil Corporation is an Indian public-sector petroleum company. It is India s largest commercialenterprise, ranking 105th on the Fortune Global 500 listing (2009).

    The Indian Oil Group of Companies owns and operates 10of India's 19 refineries with a combined refining capacity

    of 60.2 million metric tons per year. On 30 June 2009 Indian Oil completed 50 years of its

    WHAT HAPPENED?

    A fire broke out at Indian OilCorporation Limiteds Oil depotsituated in sitapura area of Jaipur On

    29-Oct-2009. Possible reasons as per near by

    factories, hotels, residents was oilleakage.

    About 11 people lost their lives due toburns and asphyxia and more than300 suffered injuries.

    IMPACT & ROLE OF MAHATMAGANDHI HOSPITAL

    M.G. Memorial Hospital is locatedin the Sitapura Industrial Area.

    Around 50 victims of the blast andfire were admitted immediately.

    They divided the patients intothree categories

    1. Minor injured (70%)were sent totheir homes after the initialtreatment known as Trias atReception area.

    2. Majorly injured(20%) were sent inEmergency care.

    3. Very Seriously injured(10%) were provided Intensive care.

    ROLE OF CHITRALA FIRE STATION

    Chitrala fire station is situated around 2km from the IOC. There are 4 vehicles inrunning condition. 1 lakh litre water supply is available and 50 thousand litre isavailable in reserve.First information of the fire was given to

    this fire station at 7:20 pm. As soon as theinformation was received 1 driver and 2firemen immediately rushed to the IOC.

    They informed that there was delay incommunication with the fire station and sothey could not reach the spot on time andso faced problems in carrying out the

    rescue operation.

    Locals residents wereseverely affected.

    Houses and shops weredamaged

    Also not satisfied withadministrative role at thattime.

    Not happy with local MLAalso.

    Mr. Bodhi Lal Sharma, alocal, is water supplier to various institutionsand organizations like

    infosys lost his businessof Rs. 30,000 till now.And is in a hope to getsome govt.

    compensation.

    TEAMS FINDINGS

    Most of organizations, factories notequipped with smoke detectors , fireextinguishers and other primarymeasures.

    Most of shops are not Insured . Butmostly had Life Insurance.

    No social communities present. Not much administrative support given

    to residents.

    Lack of any effective plan or management. LEADERSHIP role was played by

    senior students in colleges. Health problems due to heavy smoke

    among residents.

    OPTIMISTIC SUGGESTIONS Always be prepared. Formation of RESCUE AREA

    around IMPACT AREA. Organizations, Institutions,

    factories etc. need to be properlyequipped.

    Mock drills to be done at regular intervals.

    Education and Training regardingdisaster management to be givento residents, institutions etc.

    Effective local communities to be promoted.

    Shops must be Insured. Regular check and inspections of

    industries and other organizations.
