Leadership
Level 5 Leadership Definition
Level 5 Executive
Builds enduring greatness through a paradoxical blend of
personal humility and professional will (aka. tenacity).
Level 2 Contributing Team Member
Contributes individual capabilities to the achievement of group
objectives and works effectively with others in a group setting.
Level 1 Highly Capable Individual
Makes productive contributions through talent, knowledge,
skill, and good work habits.
Level 3 Competent Manager
Organizes people and resources toward the effective and
efficient pursuit of predetermined objectives.
Level 4 Effective Leader
Catalyzes commitment to and vigorous pursuit of a clear and
compelling vision, stimulating higher performance standards.
Jim Collins – Good to Great
“The great irony is that the animus and
personal ambition that often drive people to
positions of power stands at odds with the
humility required
for Level 5 leadership.”

The 3 Key Project Leadership Skills
“I do the very best I know how - the very best I
can; and I mean to keep doing so until the
end. If the end brings me out all right, what's
said against me won't amount to anything. If
the end brings me out wrong, ten angels
swearing I was right would make no
difference.

Scope Statement: The scope of this effort includes the following major featuress:
Business Requirement 1: Pricing Reports would pull from one system
A list of AS400 reports used will be pulled from the system. The Pricing BPO will review list for
completeness, purpose and use of reports with the idea of determining data required for Pricing to
successfully run reports. Data to support these reports will need to be in DAX.
Data Feeds - Current Daily Pricing Activity (with Invoicing details) would be migrated into DAX on a
daily basis to provide the data needed in these reports. The file extraction will be developed by the
AS400 Resource. Remote DAX resources will code the interface. (Interface A).
Balancing reports will be written to ensure that data balances to both systems (see DAX report charter).
Business Requirement 2: Pricing History available for all Reports
Data Migration - Historical Pricing Activity (with Invoicing Details) would be migrated from AS400
into DAX (note: down to the allocation level) so that the reports created in BR1 can be run out of one
system.
Resource for the data migration will be a remote DAX programmer using data from the AS400 file
extraction. Pricing requires 4 years of detail.
Business Requirement 3: AS400 Daily Invoice Totals will post in DAX.
Data Feeds – Daily Invoice totals will update DAX so customer data in DAX is current. Will need
customer, invoice number, amount, and date. (Interface B).
The AS400 Programmer will determine the tables and fields necessary to update in order to keep
Customer balances current. Timing is critical.
The file extraction will be developed by the AS400 Resource. Remote DAX resources will design and
develop the interface in conjunction with the AS400 resource (who will need to define the
requirements).
Balance reports will be created for AS400 and DAX with procedure established to run and validate
reports.
Business Requirement 4: Cash Application would be done in one system (DAX). AS400 Daily Invoice
Totals will post in DAX.
The Credit team would apply cash solely in the DAX system.
Business Requirement 5: Customer Updates would post to AS400 to keep credit checks in the AS400
Since all cash application is done in DAX, cash payment history will have to update the AS400
Data Feeds – Daily Customer balance changes will have to be updated in the AS400 system. This feed
will have to go to the invoice header level. Will need invoice number, amount paid, and date.
The AS400 Programmer will determine the tables and fields necessary to update in order to keep
Customer balances current and create the import into the system. Timing is critical. (Interface C).
Remote DAX resources will develop the data extraction file in conjunction with the AS400 resource
(who will need to define their requirements). The AS400 resource will be responsible for updating the
AS400.
Not in Scope:
Data migration beyond the active AS400
AS400 Reports that need to be run for Manufacturing Purposes
Changes to DAX for shipping, invoicing, credit check, or customer data (any changes to processing fall
under the scope of other Project Assignments)

We Must Now Ask Ourselves
• Who leads people by letting them know they can get it wrong until
they get it right?
• Who leads people by letting them know that conflict is a good thing?
• Who leads people by driving groups to make the best decisions
possible?
