Interview with InternsExperience India - Grimz Ng Yuen Han

1. What was your first impression of EPS?Upon arriving in EPS on the first night, I was totally sur-prised. I was immediately assisted by the security guard who helped me carry my luggage. Rizwan showed me around the well furnished rooms and the Director greeted us warmly. 2. Share your experiences during the home stay?Special thanks to Madam Faiza for providing us a won-derful time during the stay. It was really heartwarming; she knew we love to eat fish and Biryani so she purposely pre-pared these two delicacies for us. She knew we love to travel so she took us to the magnificent ‘Taj-ul-Masajid’. I really appreciate it!3. What do you think is the best part about Indian cul-ture? Definitely their attitude towards guests. The culture has a saying, ‘guests are like God’. People in EPS gave us the best they could. And I love how they constantly ask me ‘How are you today?’4. Which is one of the best moments of your trip? The school trip to Bhimbetka along with the Grade 6 stu-dents. The Stone Age rock paintings found among the Bhim-betka rock shelters were awesome! It’s like a dream come true, because I only got to see them in books before I came to India. 5. What have you learned about teaching so far?Teaching is not an easy job. I was given a chance to teach Math in Grade-7. It was very tiring and challenging especial-ly when you have to get all the students’ attention and clarify their doubts. It was than I understood as to why my mentor Sir Akbar Sheikh looses patience at times Ha Ha !!!

Experience India - Ivy Lim Choy Yen

1. What was your first impression of EPS?My first impression about EPS is, it is an Islamic School with strict rules and regulations in terms of manner and dress code.2. Share your experiences during the home stay?So far I’ve lived in two Madams’ home, Umra Madam and Faiza Madam. They not only gave me accommodation and food but also treated me like one of their family members, giv-ing me a sense of family life. They were always there for me whenever I needed anything. 3. What do you think is the best part about Indian culture? The joint family system in India. At first I was really amazed to see 6 different families who are staying under the same roof. They share their resources with each other in order to decrease the burden on family. I felt love and serenity in a joint family. 4. Which is one of the best moments of your trip?I suffered from diarrhoea in the first week and I was really depressed. But everyone took care of me and comforted me, especially Rizwan and his sister, Ashika, Rizwan took me to the hospital immediately at night when my condition worsened. I was really touched. 5. What have you learned about teaching so far?I was assigned to help one of the teachers from PYP, as a for-mer secondary school tuition teacher, teaching is one of my greatest passions. However, things were different due to lan-guage barrier. Explanation was given by using sign language as some of the kids don’t follow the accent.

Visit to Bhimbethka

Nothing beats an exciting hands-on experience to hone teaching and learning. The idea of a field trip isn’t just the subject. It’s the break in routine and adventure that opens up the child’s mind to knowledge and understanding.A field trip was planned for Grade 6th to Bhimbethka on July 18th 2016. They took an exciting bus trip to the venue. The

purpose of the visit was for them to see the rock shelters and the cave paintings done by the early humans. We visited the archaeological site of the Paleolithic, exhibiting the earliest traces of human life with paintings that depict ele-phants, stags, bison and deer. Hunting scenes with hunters carrying bows and shields also find their place in the community of these pre-historic paintings.Students made notes about the paintings and the information about the era. Apart from the paintings, students were also thrilled to see a variety of reptiles in the area. We all headed back with a sense of understanding and thoughts about the early men that fired up our imagination about their lives.

Grade 4 went to a Gym “Fitness 365Degrees” on 19th July 2016 to study about various exercises and their impact on our muscular system and overall health.

Students checked various fitness equipment like cross-train-er, dumb bells, kettle bell, arm and leg strengthening ma-chines to name a few, they also studied and experienced their impact on specific body muscles. Difference between cardiac exercises and weight training be-came clearer when they checked before and after pulse rate on the treadmills. We thank the staff of fitness 365, as they were very helpful and encouraged student learning.

Rainy Dayby Ms. Nazia Khan HRT Nursery

A Rainy Day gives us all memories to cherish. The same

was celebrated in EPS on 15th July 2016 to correlate the concept learned in classroom with practical experiences. Such moments are essential for the development of students’ thinking skills. Rainy day is always a pleasant time for the kids. Moreover it makes the school environment bright and mesmerizing for these pure souls. Kindergarten was brought out in open by their teachers with umbrellas and rain coats to enjoy the playful rainy weather. Kids really had a joyful time with their friends. The day was celebrated with great liveliness. Concept of rain was presented to them by teachers in a fun way through a skit. Kids enjoyed making rainy day crafts and made their paper boats float in water. It turned out to be a memorable one for them. The entire school came alive with their giggles. PYP students had separate interesting activities planned by their HRTs where they learned about the concept of water cycle and its importance. The day concluded with a party wherein, the whole school cherished sweet corn and homemade special food, which they also shared with their friends and teachers.

Grade IX A Assembly

On 29th June’16, as part of their learning experience, students of grade IX A conducted an assembly based on “ATL (Approaches to learn-ing) skills”. It was a great success, as everyone among the audience

were feeling connected and the examples taken were relevant with real life situations. Students were able to reflect to a great extent. Through the com-plete process of preparation and execution, students learned the actual im-portance of ATL skills e.g. communication, organization, etc and how they relate to success. Students learned how to collaborate together and respect other’s view. Overall it added to a better understanding of the skills and their importance in our life.
