Women Affected by War

August 2013Women of Hope broadcasts in more than 60 languages. PH’s monthly prayer requests are used in 79 languages.

1. Mothers trying to care for their families after catastrophes and in war-torn areas with limited supplies of food, clean water, electricity, and sanitation facilities. Many deaths are caused by dehydration and diarrhea from cholera, which spreads through contaminated water used in bathing and preparing food. 2. Somali women who have escaped their war-torn country. Pray for God’s protection over those who seek to escape the oppressive cultural practices that have dictated everything in their lives. Pray also for Christian women who produce the Women of Hope Somali program and prayer calendars that give hope to Somali women around the world.

3. Th ose facing the results of war that have devastated cities and villages, leaving many to seek answers to questions about life and purpose. Pray that they will have opportunities to hear TWR broadcasts and experience God’s love, peace, and salvation.

4. God’s anointing on Project Hannah’s English Women of Hope scriptwriters preparing material that can be easily translated into more than 60 languages and adapted for the many cultures being reached through this radio program.

5. Th e more than 1.5 million refugees who have escaped Syria’s ongoing violence, many of them then being abused in countries where they have no way to earn a living (http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-middle-east-22576924). Pray for believers in Finland, Jordan, Sweden, and other countries who are ministering to the displaced, and pray that many will hear the Women of Hope Arabic program and understand God’s truth for the fi rst time.

6. Th e Lord’s comfort to cover the broken hearts of women as they live with the horrible scars of war, violence, and catastrophes. Pray that He will heal their pain, trauma, and broken relationships, bringing reconciliation and peace into their homes and communities.

7. God’s anointing on those preparing the Women of Hope Dari program. Pray that nothing will interfere with a 2014 start date for its airing on TWR’s powerful new AM broadcast signal.

8. Mothers and nurses caring for the children who have been maimed by land mines and require extensive medical care and support all their lives.

9. Listeners of Project Hannah’s Women of Hope program to fi nd a caring radio friend who understands their pain and suff ering. Pray that they will hear encouraging words that help them stand fi rm in the midst of adversity (Ephesians 6:13-14). 10. War widows who are abused by family members and have few job options available to provide support for themselves and their children. Pray for ministries off ering vocational skills training so the women can earn enough to provide their basic needs. Pray also for women who are abused by their families because they become Christians.

11. Women refugees to have the courage to stand together against the persistent, ugly, violent rapes that they experience in the camps. Pray that men will also get involved as role models and in educating other men about proper behaviour and treatment of women.

WWars around the world are destroying many lives. The horrible things people do to one another is heart-wrenching. The scars of war take a lifetime to overcome. Disease and starvation during wars and rebellions actually claim more lives than the violence of these confl icts. Many women must fi nd ways to survive the horrible abuses of torture and rape, which are often used as weapons of war.

Those who are able to fl ee for their lives into refugee shelters, jungles, or foreign countries often face horrendous circumstances. Many women travel without their fathers, brothers or husbands, and even those who are with menfolk often suffer domestic abuse, rape, forced prostitution, and poverty that leaves them helpless in trying to feed and protect their children. Many starving families sell their daughters to pay the rent and feed the rest of the family.

Project Hannah volunteers reach out to those suffering from confl icts in Africa, Asia, Europe, and the Americas. Women seeking friends gather at the Hannah’s Houses in Sweden and learn to trust again, fi nd hope, and hear about God’s love for them. Women receive skills training and encouragement in Albania, Cambodia, Croatia, Liberia, Vietnam, and other countries long after the wars are over.

When Christians are willing to be used by the Lord and move out of their comfort zone to reach out to those who have been devastated by war, God can heal those who are hurting.

Project Hannah’s fl agship program has been offering hope to women from war-torn countries since 1998. The newest Women of Hope radio programs in Arabic, Farsi, Somali, and Turkish are reaching even more women from warring countries. Starting in 2014, Women of Hope Dari will minister to women in Afghanistan, northern Iran, and surrounding countries in which speakers of that major language live.

reduce health risks in countries aff ected by war. More than one mother in every 100 dies in childbirth in Afghanistan, the highest rate in the world. Th ousands of pregnant women live in makeshift tents in refugee camps. Pray for adequate shelter, food, and clothing for these women and their babies.

17. Women in countries struggling to rebuild after war to have a voice regarding the future of their homelands. Pray that women leaders will have the courage to defend the needs of women and children in their countries.

18. Leaders to make the welfare of children a top priority and to rebuild schools and provide a safe and healthy environment with clean water and good health care. Pray for children forced into military service and pressured into killing. Pray that they will be able to escape their captors, fi nd safety, and recover from the horrible memories that haunt them.

19. God’s Spirit to move throughout war-torn countries, healing hearts and minds and restoring families. Pray that the survivors of these massacres, ethnic cleansings, civil wars, civilian unrests, factional struggles, religious and political confl icts, and wars of independence will work together to bring healing and peace for their children.

20. Liberian women who need skills training so they can provide for their families. Pray for Liberia’s leaders as they struggle to provide a proper education system and an effi cient police force to protect women from family abuse and rape. 21. Churches in war-torn areas to be instruments of God’s love and peace to people who are in need. Pray for those who provide homes, clothes, meals, and education for orphans and widows (Matthew 25:35-36). Pray that God’s Spirit will give hope in the midst of despair.

22. Syrian families being pressured to give their daughters as “brides” to pay the rent (http://www.trust.org/item/?map=child-marriage-on-rise-among-syrian-refugees-aid-groups).

23. Protection for North Koreans who have entered China illegally to escape starvation. It is estimated that more than 300,000 of them are hiding in China. If these refugees are caught by the authorities, they will be deported back to North Korea. Most of them will be in danger of the death penalty. Pray also for North Koreans living in South Korea to hear of God’s love and salvation.

24. Women and girls in cities of refuge and clinics seeking healing after they have been injured physically through violent rapes and now need surgery to repair the damage to their bodies. Many rape victims are forced to leave their family homes and have no way of surviving.

25. Integrity and generosity to fi ll “kings and all those in authority, that we may live peaceful and quiet lives in all godliness and holiness” (1 Timothy 2:2). Don’t forget the power of prayer! “Th e king’s heart is a stream of water in the hand of the Lord: he turns it wherever he will” (Proverbs 21:1).

26. Food and humanitarian aid to reach the people who really need it instead of going to feed the soldiers and leaders in some countries that starve their people to get more foreign aid.

27. Project Hannah team members preparing for and traveling to the European Conference in Germany September 2-6.

28. Women who have escaped wars and abusive cultures

to fi nd God’s peace at the Hannah’s Houses in Sweden. Pray that they would accept God’s gift of salvation.

29. Wives and children of soldiers killed or severely wounded while fi ghting to protect the helpless and bring freedom to all people.

30. Oppressed and tortured Christians who have asked us to pray that they would be able to rejoice in their suff ering and to be faithful to the end. Pray that those who abuse them and burn their homes, businesses, and churches will come to see Christ as the true God and turn from darkness to light.

31. God’s guidance and physical strength for Project Hannah staff and volunteers working in war-torn and oppressed countries. Pray for their safety and for boldness as they work with women and children to build up their confi dence through Christ’s love and empowerment. Pray that many will learn to trust in Christ and to walk with Him in their daily lives.

13. Peace to fi nally come to the people of eastern Democratic Republic of Congo after many years of confl ict, during which three million have died.
