• To give feedback on payment of Ex-mineworkers

• To give feedback on the Vouchers on hold( Outstanding payments)

Progress on assessment of claims

Activities for the period September 2011 to April 2012 are as follows:

A total List of 2109 names was provided by ex mine worker for the following provinces:

• Eastern Cape (EL) 309,• Free State 796• Western Cape 1004

• Of the 2109 names we have received from ex mine workers, 1691 were analyzed and 418 is still to be analyzed.

• Of the1691 names that were analyzed , 1354 was sent to Teba and we have

received employment history for only 327 , but there are no details of remuneration. The names with no remuneration information was sent to the labour centres for ex mine workers to provide information that could assist in estimating their salaries in order for UIF to process the claim. We are still waiting for information.

Progress on assessment of claims

• The 1027 names of the 1354 that was sent to Teba came back with no validation. They were sent to the labour centers for the ex-mine leaders to provide records that can be used to process the claims.

• 174 of the names provided out 1691 checked had no valid id numbers.

• Our system has records of 163 ex mine workers out of 1691 submitted and checked by UIF. These beneficiaries have started to submit applications and they will be paid thereafter.

Progress on payments of claims

• The Fund has to date processed payments to 1206 beneficiaries to the value of R 4,945,023 in respect of this campaign/project.

• The actual payment from the processed payment is R4, 294, 200

• Vouchers on hold( Rejected Payments) from the processed payment is R650,822.

- 268 vouchers on hold because the bank details provided by beneficiaries were incorrect or the bank account was closed.

- The dept officials from head Office, provincial offices and the ex-mine workers leaders visited different places more than once to meet

with the affected beneficiaries to obtain the correct banking details and pay

claims.- They managed to clear only 100 vouchers hold to the value of R417, 698

Vouchers on hold •

•The challenges - In some town the ex miners leaders were not present to assist the officials of the Department.

- The majority of the beneficiaries did not show up

- Delays from the banks to open new bank accounts for beneficiaries

•Resolutions - It was agreed in the meeting held on the 13th April 2012 that to clear the outstanding 168 vouchers on hold, arrangement will be made with the chiefs and councilors to assist in ensuring that the affected beneficiaries are reached and paid their benefits.

• The total number of claimants is 18000 • 12000 have been paid• 6000 still to be paid

Challenges• Difficulty in allocating the claimants.

Resolutions to address the challenges taken at the meeting held on the 13th April 2012.•CCOD will join the Department of Labour in meeting with councillors and chiefs to locate beneficiaries.•Claimants who believe that they have valid claims can approach CCOD individually.

CCOD

• Leaders of ex mine workers are encouraged to continue to bring the applications to the CCOD.

Chambers of Mines

• The chamber of mine had agreed to receive additional list from the ex mine workers.

• A list of 4100 Id’s and names have been submitted to Chamber of Mines in order to establish if there are any pension fund/ provident fund due to the ex mine workers.

• Chamber of mines has indicated that they will work with Teba to try and verify the validity of this claims.

•As Ex mines workers submit lists to the Department of Labour, they are forwarded to RMA for validations.
