HIGHLIGHTSPakistan Reading Project:
Institute of Rural Management (IRM), in partnership with the International Rescue Committee (IRC), Creative Associates International and World Learn-ing, is implementing a five year long USAID project titled “Pakistan Reading Project (PRP)” IRM is the Lead Technical Partner (Materials Development) at National level and Lead Implementation Partner in Baluchistan. During the Month of May as per the lean year plan, Cohort- 1 conducted its 1st Quarterly Teacher Inquiry Group (QTIG) meeting and all Cohort -2 districts have completed all modules in TIG Meetings, they are determined to continue activities in lean years. Under component 1
(Improved Classroom Learning Environment for Reading) the major activities performed in May included the formation of material review commit-tee, orientation of TIG facilitators, teachers training through TIG meetings, support visits to schools. Activities of component 2 (improved policies and systems for reading) included capacity building of potential PRP stakeholders/partners, need assess-ment of each of the apex institutions responsible for in-service training, presentation of draft need assessment report to the provincial advisory com-mittees for their feedback and financial report and identification of technical assistants for CPD.
IRM is again awarded Long Term Arrangement (LTA) by UNICEF Pakistan for the year 2017-19 to create an efficient system of training services required by all the sections of UNICEF through one window opera-tion. The purpose of hiring IRM under LTA is to orga-nize and conduct training for the Communication Network (COMNet) field staff at district; union coun-cil and community levels.During the Month of May IRM’s Staff Training
Programme Provided staff training to professionals. IRM’s PDP section conducted the 3 Days Training on Monitoring and Verification Officers for the staff of Thardeep Micro-Finance. Announcement of Summer Internship Programme 2017, test and inter-views were conducted in the Month of May, during the test 34 candidates were appeared, 25 were final-ized and also conducted 4 days orientation work-shop in Islamabad of all stakeholders from FATA.
Staff Training:
HIGHLIGHTSIRM Sindh:
IRM Sindh in collaboration with NAVTTC started a six month training programme at IRM Sindh. With the help this programme youth of Sindh is being provid-ed training in different vocational trades that include Electrician, Auto CAD, and Motor cycle Repairing . During the month of May, 75 participants were enrolled who will be graduated in June 2017.Similarly IRM Sindh in collaboration with Arts Foun-dation, launched a project titled Augmenting Wid-ow's Access to Decent Work through Vocational Skills (AWAS) Project, started a three months training programme to provide the Dress Making skills to rural women. To date, IRM successfully trained 200 women.
The Government of Punjab, with financial assistance of the International Fund for Agricultural Develop-ment (IFAD), launched a project titled South Punjab Poverty Alleviation Project (SPPAP) in September 2014 in districts Bahawalnagar, Bahawalpur, Muzaf-fargarh and Rajanpur.. SPPAP is designed to assist the Government to achieve its objectives of economic growth and poverty alleviation. The over-
all goal of the project is to reduce rural poverty in Southern Punjab. The project will be wrapped up in Sep, 2017.As of May 2017, a total of 2,857 participants have successfully been trained in different vocational skills training. Other SPPAP related activities during the month of May include the meeting at P&D Lahore regarding wrap up of SPPAP..
Southern Punjab Poverty Alleviation Programme (SPPAP):
During the Month of May 2017, a total of 50 candi-dates were enrolled by VTEC Rawalpindi in following technical trades; of them 32 successfully graduated during the month of May and 18 would complete their training in June 2017.1. Computer Software 2. Excavator Operator 3. Refrigeration & Air Condition 4. Shovel Operator

HIGHLIGHTSVTEC Azakhail:
IRM- VTEC Azakhail with the financial support from FATA Development Authority has established Women Training Centers in the tribal area of Bajaur Agency to provide training in tailoring, dress making, hand/machine knitting, hand and machine embroidery to FATA women. The duration of training is six months. To date, IRM has trained 120 women
against a total target of 360.Similarly IRM VTEC Azakhel with Financial support from FATA Development Authority started a six months Institution Based Training programme. The aim of this programme is to provide Auto Electrician and Motor Cycle Mechanic skills to targeted youth. Right now 44, participants are being trained in above mentioned trades who will be graduated in June..IRM- VTEC Azakhail also signed a project with NRSP, namely LACIP. The aim of this project is to provide vocational skills training to both male and female of district Swabi. During the month of May, a total of 249 participants have been enrolled.
Plan International Pakistan and Institute of Rural Management joined hands for the project called “Youth Economic Empowerment Project (YEEP) in Jan, 2015 in district Chakwal for enhancing technical capacity of existing TVET institutes and marginal-ized youth (Men and Women) of 3 Tehsils of district Chakwal i.e. Chakwal, Kalar Kahar and Choa Saidan Shah. During the month of April and May, a total of
90 participants (55 women, 35 men) were provided Technical and Vocational Trainingin different trades (Machine Embroidery, Clinical Assistant, Office Man-agement, computer software, Tailoring, Excavator operator, RAC, Civil Surveyor, Mobile Repairing, Motor Cycle Mechanic, Driving, Building Electrician, Cooking & Baking, Plumbing). This project is ongo-ing and will be wrapped up in June 2017.
Youth Economic Empowerment Project – Chakwal
Institute of Rural Management (IRM) has signed a project with NRSP/IFAD, namely Gwadar Lasbela Livelihood Support Project (GLLSP). The project aims to provide vocational trainings to 4,884 targets ben-eficiaries of 26 UC (17 UC of Lasbela 70% and 09 UC of Gwadar 30%). During the Month of May, a total of 861 participants were enrolled; of them 268 partici-pant have completed their training and 593 will be graduated in Jun & Jul 2017.
