MESSAGE FROM THE CHAIR Progress Industries Board

Since 2010, I’ve had the privilege to serve on the

Board of Trustees for Progress Industries and

have been impressed by the many

accomplishments made to enhance the quality and

scope of services for central Iowans with

disabilities. The fact that hundreds of people

benefit every day from the services and support

they receive from Progress Industries is an

inspiration as well as an obligation and

responsibility fervently accepted by the agency.

Here are a few facts to consider for the state of Iowa:

Over 167,000 Iowans age 18-64 have some

type of disability.

20.3% of Iowans with a disability live at the

poverty level or below, 8.6% of all Iowans fall

into this range.

The risk of poverty is 2.5 times greater for an Iowan with disability.

In an environment where there is an ever increasing need for resources to be used in the

most efficient manner, Progress Industries is investing in approaches that bring the highest

returns with focus on consistency, sustainability, and quality of services to meet the future

needs of those we serve. These approaches may differ to traditional service delivery

methods. Evidence shows that people with disabilities, and without, feel they are making an

impact when they are doing things that have a purpose and align with their personal values

and goals.

SUCCESSES AND ACCOMPLISHMENTS

We understand the importance of identifying solutions to meet the current and future needs

of those we serve with disabilities, in order to achieve fulfilling lives in their communities.

Over the past year, we’ve started transitioning our programs to meet these needs in the

following ways:

Developed a plan to meet new service standards that infuse the principles of quality,

choice, and community into the core of our services. Beginning January 1, 2016, we

begin partnership with four Managed Care Organizations (MCO) selected by the state of

Iowa to administer Medicaid dollars. This change will give us the opportunity to explore

new ways to maximize efficiencies, while also measuring outcomes. This new

partnership is essential to our continued growth and success. Medicaid dollars fund

over 80% the services Progress Industries provides.

Enhanced our enrollment process and procedures to ensure timely response and

coordination of all incoming referrals.

Our newly developed mission and vision are one of several recent initiatives to

strengthen the organization and provide guiding principles and leadership. The mission

“supporting people to achieve a fulfilling life in their community” clearly reflects

Progress Industries’ program priorities and outcome for those we serve. We envision

people able to live by their choices with dignity and respect is a powerful vision that

drives us to make a positive difference for ourselves and for those we serve.

Progress Industries was honored with the 2015 Top Workplace Award based on the

feedback of its employees.

Successfully completed our annual audit review of finances. We are pleased to report

that the auditors found no areas of concern and note that the financial records

accurately reflect the financial position of Progress Industries and the P.I. Foundation.

Successfully achieved nearly 50% of our $1.2 million goal for Doors of Progress Housing

Campaign. With committed funds, we’ve completed the purchase of two homes.

Progress Industries expanded its employment-related services to serve an additional 80

people.

Individuals served in P.I.’s day habilitation programs now spend over 25% of their time

in the community participating in vocational, volunteer, social, and educational

opportunities.

IN CONCLUSION

Our partnerships are critical to meeting the challenges we face today as an agency. They

exist within our community, extend to the State of Iowa and reach our Federal Government.

I am proud to have served as Board Chair this past year and am confident that there are

more great successes on the horizon for Progress Industries. We thank you and the many

individuals, corporations and foundations who give so generously to make our progress

possible.

Andy Flynn, Chair

Progress Industries Board of Trustees

We envision people able to live by their choices

with dignity and respect.
