On April 27, 2020 Ivanhoe Mines announced that ore grading over 8%

copper is being mined and stockpiled at the flagship Kakula Copper Mine.

April also marked the third consecutive monthly underground development

record of 1.7 kilometres achieved at the Kakula Copper Mine, with

development now approximately 4.2 kilometres ahead of schedule.

A sample of Kakula’s predominant type of ore ─ fine-grained, gray-

coloured chalcocite. This sample grades 211.9 parts per million

copper, or 21.19% (Cu). Chalcocite (Cu2S) is nearly 80% copper by

weight.

transported to the pre-production stockpiles. Each blast in Kakula’s

high-grade mining zone produces approximately 550 tonnes of ore.

PLATREEF, SOUTH AFRICA

Following an amendment to South Africa’s National Lockdown regulations

authorizing mines to resume operations with strict COVID-19 controls, Platreef’s

shaft-sinking employees have returned to work. Construction activities on Shaft 1’s

950-metre-level-station re-commenced in the last week of April, and shaft sinking

will resume in the near future. 2
