Join us in the build-up to the ICC Cricket World Cup 2019 for an evening with former England captain Graham Gooch OBE.

Graham Gooch has acquired vast experience in the cricket world as a player, captain and a coach. In all, Gooch led the England side 34 times and was captain in the 1992 World Cup final. His coaching career has led to highlights including being the England batting coach when they became the number 1 Test side in the world. Gooch was also awarded an OBE for his services to cricket in 1991.

Over a lifetime in top level cricket he has gained many stories to tell. In this special evening at the Neeld, Gooch will be speaking about his career, his fellow England team mates and the best cricketers he has played against in the world, plus various stories about his cricket experiences. The evening will also include a Q&A session.

The Commitments film took the country by storm back in 1991 with soul bands forming left, right and centre as people re-discovered the unmistakable sound of artists like Wilson Pickett, Sam Cooke, Otis Reading and James Brown.

On 30 May, we welcome The Commitments Experience to the Neeld Community and Arts Centre.

They will be putting their own spin on the music from the amazing film with many classic soul numbers thrown in besides. So get your drinks, take your working class seats and prepare for an incredible evening as ‘the hardest working band in the world’ hits the Neeld with everything it’s got. Expect horns, backing singers, keys, bass, drums and of course some rocking guitar as the saviours of soul show you what the working man’s rhythm really is!

Join BBC Radio 4’s Cop-turned-comedian Alfie Moore for his latest stand-up tour show.

Coldplace are a tribute band whose quality and experience on the tribute scene are second to none. In 12 years the band have over 600 gigs under their belts across the length and breadth of the UK and abroad in over twenty different countries worldwide.

The band are firmly established in many of the UK’s top tribute venues with repeat bookings year after year. They regularly tour Europe and have played in 22 different countries worldwide. Their adventures have lead them to appear on Sky News, BBC Radio One and Two and The Gadget Show and to have played at major festivals alongside Bob Geldof, KT Tunstall, Ringo Starr, The Kaiser Chiefs, Razorlight and Roxette to name but a few.

Returning to the Neeld after a sell-out performance in 2018, this is the only Bee Gees tribute show that have actually performed with the original Bee Gees! In 1997 Gary & Darren from Jive Talkin’ performed live on Heart FM with The Bee Gees and received great compliments from both Maurice and Barry Gibb.

Wherever the group play they receive superb plaudits; ‘The sound alike quality is quite sensational’ (The Stage), ‘Amazing similarity to the real Bee Gees’ (Wakefield Express), Absolutely Brilliant (Maurice Gibb), WOW (Barry Gibb).

An Evening with Eddie ‘The Eagle’ Edwards

Eddie ‘The Eagle’ Edwards is Great Britain’s first Olympic Ski Jumper. Eddie was ranked 55th in the world which qualified him as the only GB applicant for the 1988 Winter Olympics in Calgary. With the UK firmly backing the plasterer from Gloucestershire, Eddie took to the slopes followed by a whirlwind of international press and media. Eddie competed in the 70m and 90m jump events, but unfortunately came last in both events. Although he did not win an Olympic medal, he did win a place in the hearts of spectators all around the globe.

This was ultimately due to his lack of success, but more importantly his pure determination and ‘have a go’ attitude.

Eddie’s speech will be an inspiration to all people on how to succeed against all the odds. Eddie is perhaps the best example of a heroic failure, whose perseverance and achievement was – it should be stated – gained without any funding. For that, and for many other reasons, Eddie is more hero than failure, and his story continues to win over audiences.

This summer, the Neeld Community and Arts Centre will be offering fun circus skills sessions with Clare’s Circus!

There will be lots of exciting activities for children, and parents will be very welcome to join in with the fun and games! Clare’s Circus can teach you to juggle, you can learn tricks with spinning plates and diabolo and there will be stilt walking and pedal go’s, as well as soft play for the little ones and a tightwire for thrill seekers.

In addition, there will be a great craft making table and the chance to make balloon animals with Mr Twister, the best balloon twister this side of the River Avon!

Heritage Open Days

A chance to see highlights from the popular exhibition recently held at Victoria Art Gallery, Bath. This exhibition celebrates the work of Clifford and Rosemary Ellis, whose artistic partnership included many iconic book cover and poster designs. Clifford Ellis is perhaps best known for his work as head of the pioneering Bath Academy of Art, based at Corsham Court.

The exhibition will include loans from the Art and Design Collection of Bath Spa University and the Ellis Family Archive that was given to the Victoria Art Gallery in 2016 and shared with the Bath Record Office.

Following several sold out performances at the Neeld, Vienna Festival Ballet return this December with their stunning interpretation of Snow White.
