Karen Boers

Karen Boers started her career in HR and joined iMinds in 2005, where she developed the Marketing strategy of the new software innovation center. Her drive for matching people, growing cross-industry and multidisciplinary communities and high-impact programs led her to found and head Startups be, the NGO federating the entire Belgian startup ecosystem to provide entrepreneurs access to quality providers, partners and investors as well as create additional opportunities to grow their international visibility and presence. Karen has grown the Startups.be network into the most comprehensive organization at national level representing the Belgian startup ecosystem, including 75+ incubators, accelerators, investors, communities & public agencies. She has designed and coordinated a number of large conference weeks and international events, such as Tech Startup Day, Net Futures and Failing Forward, and helped draft the Belgian Startup Manifesto.

GUEST SPEAKERS

Pieter Gunst is responsible for operations and legal informatics at Legal.io. He studied law in Ghent and Stanford. He gained experience as a technology lawyer at DLA Piper’s Brussels office, where he represented businesses, government as well as pro bono clients.

Pieter serves as the lynchpin at Legal.io, able to communicate and coordinate across product design, engineering and the needs of customers. He champions the study of legal technology by law students, having helped teach Stanford Law School’s first legal informatics class, and founded a programming group for law students that has seen more than 100 law students write their first lines of code. In 2015, Forbes named him one of “30 under 30” in Law and Policy.
