Bilotta was one of 28 selected from a national search to participate in NOAA's TeacheratSea program. Bilotta's research cruise in June spanned the edge of the continental shelf between Port Canaveral, FL, and Cape Hatteras, NC. The team aboard the R/V Nancy Foster conducted surveys in and around five marine protected areas in the south Atlantic to support fisheries management objectives. The 24/7 work schedule included collecting water chemistry profiles and mapping. Bilotta is developing a pilot K12 lesson plan on oceans and ecosystems based on his experiences. Bilotta said, "If you haven't heard from me after July 4th, I either chose to stay on board or I just sank to the bottom because I did not put my NOAA Immersion Suit on correctly." Want to know more about Bilotta's adventure? Use this link: http://teacheratsea.noaa.gov/2014/bilotta.html Hilarie Sorensen, Climate Change Extension Educator, became a fulltime Assistant Extension Professor in April. Sorensen is helping Sea Grant to develop sciencebased responses to changing climatic conditions in communities rimming the edge of Lake Superior in Minnesota and Wisconsin. Over the past year, Sorensen worked on climate change adaptation and mitigation concerns parttime for Sea Grant. Given the extent of community needs, Sea Grant posted a job announcement for a fulltime Climate Change Extension Educator in February. Sorensen earned a Master's of Environmental Studies from Lakehead University, Ontario, Canada. Her expertise is in coastal hazard resiliency and climate adaptation planning. Sorensen continues to operate out of Minnesota Sea Grant's main office at the University of Minnesota Duluth.
