WashingtonAreaWomen’sFoundation(TheWomensFoundation.org)isaWashington,DC-basedpublicfoundation,dedicatedtomobilizingourcommunitytoensurethateconomicallyvulnerablewomenandgirlsintheWashingtonregionhavetheresourcestheyneedtothrive.Ourprogramworkconsistsof:
1. Grantmaking:Investingthroughamultifacetedapproachinthethreecoreareasof:a. Assetbuilding;b. Jobswithbenefits,careerpathways,andfamilysustainingwages;andc. Accesstohigh-qualityearlycareandeducation.
2. ResearchandEducation:Generatinganddistributingdataaboutthestatusandneedsofwomenandgirlsintheregion,andthestrategiesnecessarytoaddressthoseneeds.
3. Advocacy:Raisingawarenessofthepolicyissuesthataffecteconomicallyvulnerablewomenandgirls.TheWomen’sFoundationisseekingtohireahighlymotivatedself-starterforthepositionofProgramOfficer.TheProgramOfficerwillserveasamemberofthefoundation’sprogramteam.Thispositionwillleadthefoundation’sadvocacywork,includinganewinitiativefocusedoninvestingingirlsandwomenofcolor. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES: ReportingtotheDirectorofPrograms,theProgramOfficerwillcontributetoprogrammaticideasandparticipateactivelyingrantmakingandcommunityleadershipaligningwithTheWomen’sFoundation’seconomicsecuritystrategies.Inparticular,thispositionwillberesponsibleforlaunchingandmanagingtwonewpiecesofwork:1)thefoundation’snewadvocacyagenda,and2)anewinitiativefocusedonimprovingoutcomesforgirlsandwomenofcolor.ThesefunctionswillbecriticaltoexecuteTheWomen’sFoundation’sambitiousfive-yearstrategicplan,availableathttp://bit.ly/1TYmgTw.TheProgramOfficerwillusecontentexpertiseandknowledgeintheirprogramareatohelpbuildnetworksamongfundersandGranteePartners;toeducatekeystakeholdersaboutourwork;tocommunicateandadvocateforsocialchange;andtodeveloppartnershipsthatmultiplytheimpactofTheWomen’sFoundation’swork.TheProgramOfficerwillworkonateamwiththeResearch&EvaluationProgramOfficerandtheProgramAssociate.Specificresponsibilitiesinclude,butarenotlimitedto:

GrantsManagement:• Manageprogramstrategy,includingaportfolioofgrantinvestments,thatadvanceanadvocacystrategy
forwomen’seconomicsecurity,aswellasinvestmentsingirlsandwomenofcolor.Duringthefirst6-12months,thispositionwillleadextensivelandscapingandplanningforbothlinesofwork.
• Managecomprehensiveproposalreviewandassessmentprocess.Stayinformedandengagedwithgranteeworkduringthegrantperiod.
• Interfacewithgrantseekers,GranteePartnersandothers,respondingpromptlyandappropriatelytoavarietyofe-mail,writtenandphoneinquiries,andconductingsitevisitsandconveningsinaccordancewithprogramobjectives.
CommunityEngagement:
• Engagewithawidevarietyofstakeholders,includingGranteePartners,othernonprofits,localandnationalfunders,government,businessesanddonors.
• Helptopubliclyrepresentthefoundationatexternalcommunity-basedeventsandmeetingstogatherinformation,influencechange,andcreateconnectionsthathelpmovetheworkoftheorganizationforward.
• Aspartofthefoundation’snewadvocacyagenda,planandexecuteameaningfulengagementstrategythatbringstogetheradvocatestocoordinateonawomen’seconomicsecurityagenda.
• Aspartofthefoundation’snewworkaroundgirlsandwomenofcolor,planandexecuteworkwithawidecommunityofstakeholderstolistentogirlsandwomeninthecommunity;developaframeworkforinvestinginprogramsandpolicychange;andrallychampionsinsupportofthiswork.
Research&Communications • Maintainabreadthofknowledgeaboutcurrenttrends,emergingissues,policyinterventions,and
innovationstoenhancetheeffectivenessofprogramstrategyandunderstandingofstaffandboard.• Evaluategrantsandprovideperiodicreportstostaff,board,andexternalcolleaguesaboutperformance,
thegrantreviewprocess,andprogramimpact,includingsuccesses,challenges,andlessonslearned.• Informthefoundation’sresearchagenda,executedbytheResearch&EvaluationProgramOfficer.• Identifyandleadcommunicationscomponentsofanyadvocacyagenda,incoordinationwith
communicationsteam.DonorEngagement&Development
• DevelopandstaffSteeringCommittees,AdvisoryCommittees,and/orWorkGroupsrelevanttoourwork.• Assistwiththewritingofprogram-specificgrantproposalsandreports,incoordinationwiththe
developmentteam.• Partnerwithcommunicationsanddevelopmentondonorengagementopportunities,events,andthe
productionofmaterials/collateral. ADDITIONAL QUALIFICATIONS:
• Bachelor’sdegreeorequivalenttrainingandexperience.• Minimumof5yearsofrelevantworkexperience(experienceworkinginphilanthropy,nonprofitdirect
service,advocacy,and/orexperienceinwomen'sissuesorpoverty/economicsecurity).• Anappetiteforandsensitivitytoworkingwithdiversecommunitiesacrossrace,class,ethnic,politicaland
geographicboundaries.Particularexperienceworkingin/with/forcommunitiesofcolorisparticularlyimportantforthisposition.
• Excellentcommunicationskills.• Mustthrivewhenworkingunderdeadlines,havestrongprojectandtimemanagementskills,andbeable
toproblemsolve.• Abilitytofostercollaborationandcontributetoastrongsenseofcommunityamongstaffandboard,and
withcolleaguesoutsidetheorganization.• PassionforimprovingthelivesofwomenandgirlsintheWashingtonMetroregion.
