connection through travel such as a GSUSA Destinations trip or visiting one of the four residential World Association of Girl Guides & Girl Scouts’ World Centers (Our Chalet in Switzerland, Our Cabaña in Mexico, Sangam in India, and Pax Lodge in England).

Take Action

Girl Scouts create and implement projects that make a lasting impact. While some community service projects address the immediate needs of a community, these projects generally only help for a short period of time. Take Action Projects are longer-term projects involving measurable change, and Girl Scouts are dedicated to taking action! Girl Scouts has a rich history of empowering girls to help improve their communities, and Take Action Projects are at the heart of both Journeys awards and Highest Awards (Bronze, Silver, and Gold).

GSSNE LEADERSHIP CENTERThe Girl Scout Leadership Center is a hub for girl-led creativity, connectivity, exploration, and inspiration! Located on the lower level of the GSSNE Office at 500 Greenwich Avenue, Warwick, RI, the Leadership Center provides a perfect program or meeting space for Girl Scout members. In May 2017, the Leadership Center was remodeled to include girl-centric furniture (tiered seating, swivel chairs, and low scooches) and great new STEAM equipment, from digital play panels to robotics, from iPads and GoPros to electronic origami. The Leadership Center includes a lounge and three separate conference rooms, accommodating up to 145 people. The Leadership Center can be used by Girl Scout groups at no cost on Mondays through Thursdays and for a nominal fee on Fridays through Sundays. To request use of the Leadership Center on a certain desired date OR to borrow STEAM equipment, contact [email protected].

CORE PROGRAM FOCUS AREASGirl Scouts of all ages have fun, make new friends, and try new things, developing lifelong values and skills that prepare them for a strong future, no matter what path they follow. As girls discover themselves and their values, connect with each other, and take action to make the world a better place, they become leaders that will change their communities. Our core Girl Scout program focus areas help guide that leadership experience!

Entrepreneurship

Girl Scouts build their business savvy and hone their financial literacy skills through badge programs, online learning, and of course, through the Girl Scout Fall Product and Cookie Programs. As girls learn to handle money and become self-reliant, they are also learning how to bring their own values to the business world and how to use their time, talent, and resources (including money!) to make the world a better place.

S.T.E.A.M.

From building a robot to designing animation for a video game, from discovering how a car’s engine runs to investigating how pollution harms the environment, Girl Scouts examine how science, technology, engineering, art, and mathematics (STEAM) are relevant to everyday life. By experimenting and developing STEAM literacy, Girl Scouts gain skills to provide real solutions to local and global issues.

Life Skills

Physical, social, and emotional health help prepare Girl Scouts for a healthy and independent future. Girl Scouts engage with topics including self-esteem and body image, nutrition, physical fitness, relational aggression and bullying, strong relationships, and positive lifestyle choices.

Outdoor

Girl Scouts unplug and explore the outdoors by going on a hiking trip, learning how to cook over a fire, rock climbing, kayaking on a lake, or by going to camp. Girl Scouts connect with nature and learn an ethic of care as environmental stewards. Girl Scouts of Southeastern New England has five summer camp programs (Camp Cookie, Camp Green Forest, Camp Hoffman, Camp Promising Acres, and Camp Rocky Farm) where girls make lifelong memories.

Global

Girl Scouts become global citizens by understanding and appreciating cultural differences and by “thinking globally, acting locally” to change their corners of the world. With more than 10 million Girl Scouts and Girl Guides across the world, Girl Scouts are connected to a special international sisterhood. World Thinking Day on February 22 is an annual celebration of international friendship and a day of speaking out on issues that affect girls and young women. Girl Scouts also experience global

8 THE COUNSELORSOur staff are trained, caring, and hilariously FUN! They have cool camp names and make every day unforgettable. If you come to overnight camp this summer, you’ll even meet counselors from around the world! In Summer 2017, our international staff came from Australia, England, Germany, New Zealand, Northern Ireland, Poland, Scotland, and Spain!

7GET ACTIVE IN THE OUTDOORSSummer camp is full of awesome! With a wide range of activities available, there is always something to look forward to: swimming, archery, arts & crafts, the rock wall, boating, campfires, s’mores, and so much more!

6 TAKE SAFE RISKS AND BECOME MORE CONFIDENTCounselors regularly encourage campers to take safe risks, from reaching new heights on the rock climbing wall to performing a goofy skit in front of others. With a cheering squad behind each girl, campers gain incredible confidence.

The fun doesn’t stop during the summer! Here are the TOP 8 REASONS to come to Girl Scout camp.

5 UNPLUG FROM TECHNOLOGYCamp is a great way to get back to nature and enjoy the world and relationships without tech. At Girl Scout camp, we believe life is best when it’s happening right in front of you.

4 DEVELOP LIFE-LONG SKILLS“Everything I know about getting along with others, solving problems, overcoming fears, and taking initiative, I learned at Girl Scout camp. Not to mention other awesome first experiences such as rock climbing, outdoor cooking, whitewater kayaking, backpacking, and DIY crafting. I use what I learned at camp everyday as a high school teacher while working effectively in a team with other teachers and while supporting my students.” - Girl Scout volunteer and high school teacher

3 BECOME MORE INDEPENDENTWhile at summer camp, campers learn to be independent thinkers and doers. Counselors cultivate each camper’s ability to make sense of the world based on personal observations and experiences! Campers are given opportunities to try activities and tasks on their own and provided adult assistance when needed.

2 MAKE TRUE FRIENDSCamp is a special place where true and deep friendships develop. Campers help each other overcome fears and difficulties. They act silly without judgment and criticism and share new experiences together! (You can also come to camp with your BFF, too—we accommodate buddy requests whenever possible!)

1 HAVE THE BEST SUMMER OF YOUR LIFE! (EVERY SUMMER!)“I rate camp 100 out of 5 stars!” — Camper

Stand Up, Stand Out!The Girl Scout Shop!

We Believe in the Power of You—Volunteer Today!

Girl Scout activities like the Girl Scout Cookie Program help power unique and amazing experiences for girls, while also exposing them to essential life skills, life-changing opportunities to practice leadership, and supercharged confidence.

Through these activities, girls are also able to contribute to their council’s ability to provide girl-centric programming in the community, and make a difference by carrying out amazing service projects that make the world a better place for them and for all of us.

Adults also play a key role as they coach and mentor girls by focusing on these three key learning approaches, all while having fun!

• Girl-led: Girls play an active part in figuring out the what, where, when, how, and why of their activities. They lead the planning and decision making as much as possible.

• Learning by doing: Girls engage in activities that result in deeper understanding of concepts and skills such as business ethics and money management.

The Girl Scout Shop is located at 500 Greenwich Avenue, Warwick, RI and we have everything you need — uniform pieces, Journey books, guide books for each level, fashion apparel, gifts, and so much more!

For hours of operation (which vary by season) and for Friendship Shop hours at Camp Hoffman, please visit gssne.org and click “Shop” at the top of the Homepage.

And don’t forget, you can save time (and gas!) by shopping 24/7 via our secure, online shopping site. Visit www.girlscoutshop.com and enter our council zip code 02886 to locate our online store easily! Shipping rates are reasonable and VISA, MasterCard, and American Express are accepted.

We’re seeking passionate and engaged volunteers — women, men, young adults, older girls, and people of all racial and ethnic backgrounds, including our beloved alumnae — who want to make a difference in the lives of girls!

There are several meaningful, flexible pathways through which our volunteers can participate in Girl Scouting. Volunteers, as always, can lead a troop, but they can also lend support in other ways too! They can develop and participate in training activities, maintain camps, manage data, and share their skills with girls in everything from running a business to exploring science careers.

There’s no end to the ways YOU can contribute to our mission of building the Go-getters, Innovators, Risk-takers, and Leaders of tomorrow — girls that are built of courage, confidence, and character, who make their world a better place!

If you’d like to change the life of a girl as a Girl Scout volunteer, get in touch with us today at [email protected]!

• Cooperative learning: Girls work together setting goals and making decisions in an atmosphere of respect and collaboration that encourages the sharing of skills, knowledge, and learning.

The Cookie Sale enables troops to fund amazing activities and experiences, along with enabling girls to give back to the community through a variety of service project activities. Proceeds also help girls to attend summer camp, travel to destinations near and far, and to provide events for girls in the community.

WHO CAN PARTICIPATE IN THE COOKIE SALE?All registered Girl Scouts from Daisies through Ambassadors may participate in the sale, which begins in January and runs through the end of March.

WHAT IS NEW FOR 2018?There are lots of exciting changes to the sale including a brand new digital platform for girls and leaders to help manage and market the sale, along with some great recognitions that were voted on by you-our local Girl Scouts!

We believe that the Go-getters, Innovators, Risk-takers, and Leaders in our communities aren’t far from reach. In fact, we believe that “G.I.R.L.” potential exists in YOU!

For more information about the Girl Scouts of Southeastern New England Cookie Program, visit our website at www.gssne.org.

That’s the theme for the 2018 Girl Scout Cookie Program, where we will be celebrating 101 years of Girl Scouts selling cookies and calling out everything that makes each Girl Scout special. Girl Scouts exhibit boundless creativity, enthusiasm, and loyalty; these incredibly smart girls are able to put their individual style and personality into the cookie sale each year.

36 GIRL SCOUTS OF SOUTHEASTERN NEW ENGLAND PROGRAM GUIDE 37

The Fall Product Sale Program is a council-sponsored program that combines educational activities with money earning opportunities for the troops.

This year’s theme is Unleash the Hero Inside!

During the Fall Product Program, girls participate in selling nuts, candy, tumblers, organic plants, and magazines, all of which go a long way to help with troop start-up funds.

When girls participate in this program, they can earn proceeds for troop activities and at the same time build self-confidence, learn strong values and how to work as a team.

When family and friends purchase these items, they support not only the Girl Scout, but they also are supporting the many programs, events and services that are provided by GSSNE each year.

The Fall Product program is a simple, fun introduction to Girl Scout Product Sales!

Programming for the Fall Sale focuses on leadership, collaboration, and exploring personal values through discovering, connecting, and taking action to help girls explore their future potential.

Fall Product Sale Program

THE 5 ESSENTIAL SKILLSThe Fall Product Sale teaches Girl Scouts 5 core skills to grow into leaders in their own life, in business, and in the world.

ONLINE LEARNINGOnline learning activities are designed to enhance the troop program activity pieces.

GOAL SETTINGSetting goals is the key to a successful sale. Troops and girls who set goals earn big. Talk about what your plans are for the Fall and what funding would be needed to make it happen. Give your girls the opportunity to fully experience Product Sale Programming and don’t skip the Goal Setting and Decision Making skill building!
