FACULTY DEVELOPMENT PROGRAMMES ORGANISED

1. Machine Learning Techniques

Department of CSE & IT jointly organized a FDP on “Machine learning Techniques” on 12th & 13th May 2019.Dr.AnandKumar Prakasham -Director and Dr.AkilaAnadkumar- Co-Director of Root-IT Learning Center, Trichy handled the session. The session started with the introduction to Data Analytics, Statistics of Data Science and how to analyze & visualize data that is being collected. On the second day, the session started with what is the need of machine learning and deep learning techniques. The entire session was explorative, innovative and thought provoking. Hands-on training were given to faculty to visualize how machine learning and deep learning algorithm works, and how to work with Keras and Tensor flow.

2.Seminar on “Software Testing and Agile"

Infosys Campus Connect of Saranathan College of Engineering has organized a Technical Seminar on “Software Testing and Agile” on 25 th July 2019. Mr. Mukesh Sekar, Member - Education, Training & Assessment, Infosys Campus Connect Program, Mahindra City Development Centre, Infosys Ltd., Chennai, has handled the sessions. Nearly 100 pre-final year students of CSE and IT took active participation. The session started with the introduction to Software Testing and different ways to ensure that the software system is defect free. He also spoke on the classifications of testing such as Functional testing, Performance testing, Regression and Maintenance testing. Then he categorized and explained functional testing into Unit testing, Integration testing, Smoke, UAT (User Acceptance Testing) and Non functional testing

into Performance, Endurance, Scalability, Usability. He has explained Agile development by correlating with the literal development process in Infosys.

Mr. Mukesh Sekar, insisted strongly on the different types of software requirements that are needed to analyze the process of Software Testing. He suggested having the requirements in .xls (MSExcel) format so that it will be easy for the tester who will be testing the software in near future. He explained the statistics of employability in Development and Testing. Finally, he concluded by feeding tips to frame a resume of our own to appear for an interview and to succeed.

3. Webinar series on "ABCD : New Foundations of IT"

Webinars are lecture series held online so as to reach a large and specific audience. The Infosys Campus connect team organized webinar series on "ABCD : New Foundations of IT" from 5th Aug to 14th Aug 2019 . In this webseries various quizzes were conducted by the presenter under different topics and our college students actively participated in them. The details regarding this event are given below;

Resource Person: Mr. Roy Antony Arnold George Charles(Senior Member, ETA, MCTC,Infosys Ltd., Chennai.)

Resource person mentioned about the importance of Agile Methodology in Software industries, how the Traditional model and Agile model differ in the development of real-time

applications were discussed. The need for Blockchain technologies in real-time applications such as Bitcoins, Bitgold, Banking applications, etc., the blockchain internal parts of public-key cryptography, digital signature creation and verification were discussed. The properties of blockchain and then how data are converted to hash code were explained. Evolution of blockchain (blockchain 1.0(2009), blockchain 2.0(2013) and blockchain 3.0(20016)), their different features and improvement of each block chain had been discussed. The types of block chain and service (Baas) used in IBM Blue mix, Microsoft Azure and Amazon Web Services were explained. The resource person conducted three polls (Multichoice questions) in between the sessions to make students interactive and blockchain Framework (Video) was played for the students to understand the concept of blockchain. Moreover the importance of Cyber security in IT industry, fundamentals of security and objectives of security process such as Confidentiality, Authentication, Availability, Authorization, and Repudiation were discussed. The 60% of internet attacks are caused by web applications and India is in the third position in vulnerable attacks by other countries in the world. This information shows the importance and need for cyber security. The general information was given to students on how the Infosys use cyber security against the threats. The digitalization and how customers experience digitalization in real-time applications such as Virtual Reality, Netflix etc., were discussed.

Glance at the session

The usage of machine learning algorithms such as supervised learning, unsupervised learning and reinforcement learning concepts were also brushed-up with examples. The importance of Artificial Intelligence and its real time applications were explained and a video on how the Amazon uses robots in its working area was shown. The machine learning algorithm (SVM, KN, Decision tree and Neural Network) was also explained. An introduction to machine learning tools such as Jupiter python, Tensor flow, Caffe and keras was given to the students. The need for Big data along with 5V's (Volume, Variety, Velocity, Value and Veracity), challenges in Big data and how these Big Data will be handled were discussed along with NoSQL database and its needs in data analytics.

4.Way to Byju

Seminar on “Way to Byju” has been organized for IV Year Students. Mr.S.Ranjithkumar & Mr.Krishna M Bajaj, alumni of CSE department & Member of Technical Staff of Byju's Learning App addressed the students on 27th August 2019.The session started with the introduction on how Byju's App started and how it is has secured nearly $785 million in funding from investors. BYJU’S app is one among the best app which helps students by providing complete assistance in their studies. Students across the globe can avail these apps by visiting BYJU’S website or by downloading BYJU’S-The Learning App either in their computer, laptops, in tablets or on their mobile phones. By downloading the

BYJU’S app, students can find the introduction to various topics for Physics, Maths, Chemistry, and Biology. These apps help students to explore more about the different topics through the interactive videos, games and other quizzes. On the conversation with the students, they mentioned about how to get an offer in Byju's . They advised the students to have good coding knowledge in scripting and design of webpages.The session was interactive. Final year students raised many questions on how to apply for job, what are the various positions available for freshers, how to prepare for interview. Overall the session was an eye-opener for final year students to get placement at Byju Learning App Development.
