Welcome!

Thank you for taking time from your busy schedule to be with us at the National Security Investment Consultant Institute certification and training event at Hillsdale College’s Kirby Center in Washington, DC.

This week’s program represents the next step of a vision conceived several years ago. The

NSIC Institute is the first organization to unite the best experts in national security with top investment talent.

For far too long, economics and national security have been kept in separate silos in the American conscience. Yet, our enemies view financial markets as instruments of power to be waged against our national interest. Economic warfare is their doctrine.

We have the opportunity to accomplish something very special with the NSIC. We will not only gain insight regarding economic threats, but also have the opportunity to creatively develop strategies for protecting our clients. Beyond that, we will also work together to find ways to invest in America’s security rather than against our future.

Perhaps the most important role we play, as leaders, will be to make certain that our efforts are grounded in truth and based on eternal spiritual principles. For too long, America has made money her god, sacrificing values for dollars.

I look forward to spending the next few days together, building relationships committed to achieving something of lasting importance.

Kevin D. Freeman, CFAFounder and Chairman

Opening Reception, Energy Security – A Critical Component of National DefenseGeneral James Conway opens up the NSIC Institute conference with a focus on our energy security. The Middle East is using oil as a weapon. General Conway provides a look into the vulnerabilities of our current system, and explains how America can be better positioned.

Tuesday, July 21

Welcome To Our War RoomKevin Freeman provides a critical overview of the various global economic risks we face, and how they are already impacting portfolios. He will also explore the history of economic warfare and uncover active efforts to undermine our financial markets, steal our technology, collapse our currency, and destroy our way of life. While these efforts are increasing and the risks are systemic, little if any attention has been paid to these issues. This session will shine the light on critical areas to defend in this economic war.

Page 8: Program DC 2015 - Final-v2-sm-1

[ 6 ]

The War for the Free WorldFrank Gaffney provides an insider’s understanding of the systemic threats we face. He also identifies the key enemies, foreign and domestic threatening America. This session will provide a valuable national security briefing comparable to the best available in the defense industry.

What This Means for Your Clients and Your PracticeKevin Freeman presents various national security scenarios and then discusses how they can impact client portfolios. The goal is to “war game” threats and responses, demonstrating valuable capabilities for future risks.

Team Application BreakoutHow to build and grow the Founders Class as a means of defending the American way of life.

Settlement System FlawsPatrick Byrne explains the serious risks of settlement flaws and naked short selling. Most on Wall Street won’t ever mention this lurking evil. By contrast, Patrick sheds light on the practice, explains why it is such a problem, and provides insight on how to respond. He is also a noted expert on Bitcoin and digital currencies, and will provide an understanding of this revolutionary technology.

Congressman Gohmert is the Chairman of the Natural Resources Subcommittee on Oversight and Investigations and the Vice Chair of the Judiciary Subcommittee on Crime, Terrorism and Homeland Security. Debrief for Those With EnergyAfter returning to the hotel, any attendee with extra energy is invited to meet and discuss the day.

Wednesday, July 22

Risks to the Global, Monetary, and Financial SystemKevin Freeman provides a more in-depth look inside the concerted efforts of our enemies to take down the dollar as reserve currency, and undermine our economy. Global debt issues in Europe and Asia, as well as our $18.3 trillion national debt and dependence on foreign investors sets the stage for severe economic difficulty.

Page 10: Program DC 2015 - Final-v2-sm-1

Combat Decision Making or Decision Making for CombatantsChris Graham discusses the consequential choices in an unclear environment. Not everyone realizes what their own placeholders are, and when you add in an adversary that values and practices deception at micro and macro levels, a lot can go wrong. Chris’ first-hand experience combating multiple global threats provides a unique perspective and applications for defense of client portfolios.

What This Means for Your Clients and Your PracticeHow do we best address the systemic problems we face?

Team Application BreakoutHow to build and grow the Founders Class as a means of defending the American way of life.

Understanding Cyber ThreatsAs current head of Critical Infrastructure Protection/Industrial Control System Security at Intel, Seán McGurk provides a practical review of cyber threats and how to enhance the security of the hyper-connected world. As the threat landscape develops so must the capabilities of solution providers in order to counter the malicious activity. Seán discusses how the critical infrastructure and key resource sectors confront cyber-attacks while maintaining a resilient operating environment.

Page 12: Program DC 2015 - Final-v2-sm-1

[ 10 ]

Developing a Cybersecurity Framework for Your PracticeKevin Freeman and Andrew Carroll discuss how to develop and implement a cybersecurity framework for your practice. With the SEC and FINRA cracking down on broker-dealers and investment advisory firms, this should be a critical focus.

Getting Ahead on the Cyber Curve to Acquire and Protect ClientsBy having a robust cyber understanding and emphasis, your firm can be well positioned to attract worried clients. This practical session deepens the understanding of this opportunity.

Biblical Response to Fears of a Financial ApocalypseKevin Freeman uncovers biblical implications of the current state of our nation. People are fearful. We need to address these fears with time-tested faith. This practical session provides a framework to integrate your faith and business in a new and exciting way.

So Where Do We Go From Here? – Developing the NSIC InstituteIn light of this week’s incredible flood of information and insight into economic warfare and financial terrorism, the NSIC Team advances the vision with practical application.

Patrick M. Byrne, Ph.D.Mr. Byrne, CEO, launched Overstock.com in 1999 with revenues of $1.8 million. In 2013 Overstock.com had revenues of $1.3 billion and net income of $88.5 million. Forbes magazine named Overstock.com the No. 9 Best Company to Work for in the Country for 2010, and Byrne the CEO with the highest employee approval rating (92%). Byrne received the 2011 Ernst & Young National Entrepreneur of the Year Award. In 2001, Byrne began Worldstock Fair

Trade, an Overstock.com division selling handcrafted products from artisans in developing nations. The department distinguishes itself by returning 60-70% of the sale price to artisans (over $100 million has been paid to Worldstock’s artisan suppliers). In addition, all Worldstock net profits are donated to fund philanthropic projects in several countries. Worldstock and Byrne have funded the building of 26 self-sustaining schools internationally that currently educate thousands of students. A “classical liberal,” Byrne believes that our nation’s success depends on a sound educational system and a healthy capital market. Since Milton Friedman’s passing in 2006, Byrne has served as chairman of The Friedman Foundation for Educational Choice, an organization leading the national debate for school vouchers.

Towards the goal of clean capital markets, in 2004 Byrne (as a citizen-journalist) began a vigorous campaign against abusive Wall Street practices, focusing on regulatory capture, hedge fund “expert network” (insider trading) schemes, settlement system failures, systemic risk, and the possibility of economic warfare against the US by Organized Crime and foreign governments. His stance quickly caught the attention of Wall Street analysts and reporters and became a point of high controversy and ridicule until the economic crash of 2008, occasioned by the very things Byrne had warned of. Byrne’s website DeepCapture.com has received much recognition, such as Weblogs Award “Best Business Blog” (2008), Business Pundit’s “Best Business Investigative Journalism” (2009), and Xmark’s “Top Site on Corruption in the USA” (2010). Byrne received a bachelor’s degree in philosophy and Asian studies from Dartmouth College, a master’s in philosophy from Cambridge University as a Marshall Scholar, and a doctorate in philosophy from Stanford University.
