Colossians 3:12- 17 (NRSV)
12 As God’s chosen ones, holy and beloved, clothe yourselves with compassion, kindness, humility, meekness, and patience. 13Bear with one another and, if anyone has a complaint against another, forgive each other; just as the Lord has forgiven you, so you also must forgive. 14Above all, clothe yourselves with love, which binds everything together in perfect harmony. 15And let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts, to which indeed you were called in the one body. And be thankful. 16Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly; teach and admonish one another in all wisdom; and with gratitude in your hearts sing psalms, hymns, and spiritual songs to God. 17And whatever you do, in word or deed, do everything in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him.

Welcome
“Living Inside Out” emphasizes that our Christian identity emerges out of the inner transformation and freedom that comes from following Jesus together. The word “Living” indicates our place within the tradition of the Biblical story. This narrative shapes our life and worldview; it is the shaping story of our church. It calls us to live from the inside out, so that people can see what motivates us, just like wearing clothing inside out lets others see how our apparel has been created.
This “inside out” living aligns with Paul, the Apostle, who started with the inside and worked his way out. For example, Colossians 3 begins with instructions to “set our hearts and minds on things above, and not on earthly things,” and then progresses to specific instructions on how to live. These instructions help us grow in our identity in Christ, especially when the going gets tough, and help us live into our God-given unity. This unity can transform our church as we claim it, wear it, and engage the world with the reconciling gospel of Jesus Christ.
May we wear this Colossian clothing well during this Assembly and beyond, and may we all cling fast to the unity God gives us through Christ as we work, visit, and worship together. We hope the visuals in our meeting space will help us keep this reality before our eyes as we worship and as we do our other work.
We invite you to find times of quiet and grounding in God in the prayer room. If you need people to pray with you, our prayer team, led by Pastor Henry Block, will be happy to do so. Morning prayers will be led on Friday at 11:30 and on Saturday at 8:00 am.
Mennonite Church Canada staff and their respective councils will be available for discussion in five indoor locations on Saturday between 1:00 and 3:00. In addition, the Faith and Life Committee, while not reporting officially this year, is continuing to work with the topic of interfaith dialogue. They will be happy to dialogue with you about this work on Saturday afternoon as well. Their recent response to the Muslim call to the “Common Word” project is on p.79 of the Report/Workbook. (See the detailed schedule in this booklet for locations.)
Finally, we invite you to “Live inside out” in the times of unstructured fellowship as well, to build each other up and discover more about our God-given unity. Our largest block of unstructured time is on Saturday, between 12:00 and 3:00, where we will enjoy box lunches, the surroundings of this lovely campus, and each other’s company.

Tips for a Good Experience
Keep this book with you. It has schedules, maps, worship orders, and other good things to guide you through your time at the Delegate Assembly. Our daily news sheet will be available online only this year to help you report back to your congregations (www.mennonitechurch.ca/tiny/695).
If you’re lost and confused–or just looking for a friendly face–visit the information desk in the registration area, or talk to a friendly volunteer in a green vest. If you’re in need of first aid, a nurse will assist you in the Education Lounge (Room 1005).
Care for our environment. Use the reusable coffee mug and water bottle you have brought with you. Turn off the lights when you leave a room. Enjoy the walks across campus and over the river.
Scent free policy: In recognition of individuals with asthma, allergies, and severe environmental and chemical sensitivities, we ask you to refrain from wearing fragrances and scented personal care products at the Delegate Assembly. This includes perfumes, colognes, aftershave, and scented hair products. Your cooperation is greatly appreciated by those affected.
Take this opportunity to get to know your sisters and brothers from other churches, learn the names of the people around you in the coffee break line-up, or make some new friends over lunch in Marquis Hall. We hope you leave with many new and renewed friendships!
The Education Building is equipped with wireless Internet access. Please see the information table for logon information. In case of an emergency, people can contact you here by calling 306 229 4886 during Assembly hours.

SHORT-TERM SERVICE OPPORTUNITIES WITH MENNONITE CHURCH CANADA WITNESS
Interested in living, learning, and serving the church in Canada or in international settings? Consider a short-term assignment with Mennonite Church Canada.
Internationally
Interns: MC Canada Witness invites young adults over the age of 18 to serve the church in a variety of settings. Interns usually serve in places where there are also long-term Witness workers. MC Canada interns have served in Hong Kong, Philippines, Thailand, China, Korea, South Africa, Benin, Botswana, Burkina Faso, Bolivia, and Colombia. Assignments may involve teaching, administrative assistance, or helping Witness partners with whatever gifts the intern may have. In addition to service, internship assignments are for learning about oneself and the role of the church in the world. An educational component of reading and reporting will assist the internship participants in reflecting on the impact of their mission involvement and whether they are called to longer-term cross-cultural service through the church.
University/College practicum: If you are a university or college student, consider doing your practicum through MC Canada Witness. Talk with your school’s practicum director.
Radical Journey: For those interested in a group experience, Radical Journey is offered through MC Canada in cooperation with Mennonite Mission Network (Mennonite Church USA). Radical Journey is a one-year program that involves an orientation month, 10 months of international service, and an integration month in the participant’s home congregation. Sites have included Paraguay, South Africa, and England.
In Canada
Mennonite Voluntary Service Adventure (MVSA) provides an opportunity for young adults to serve and live together in one of four local units across Canada. Participants volunteer in local non-profit agencies in partnership with a sponsoring congregation. Volunteers have served in medical clinics, tutored children, worked with senior citizens, repaired housing, and helped meet the needs of vulnerable people in various locations; see www.mvsa.net/.

CHRISTIAN FORMATION COUNCIL
Florence Benson-Umpherville, Cross Lake MB (Living Word Church)Occupation: Teaching Principal
Local church involvements: Presently I am the contact person for the church. I am also the co-ordinator of the program run by the church.
Other vocational and volunteer experience: I have been a volunteer in the past on housing boards, child & family service boards, and held elected positions in Cultural organizations at the local level.
Special Interests: Experience in modifying material and curricula to be culturally appropriate at a local level.
Vision/Goal for MC Canada: My vision for Mennonite Church Canada is that we make a conscious effort to be a generational church that meets the needs of the younger generation and the next. The Message of the Gospel must not change, however the methods need to change. I envision every Christian being able to worship without giving up their ethnicity. If as Christians we are working at going to Heaven, then Heaven is going to be multicultural; our churches need to be the same.

Many Gifts: Calling and Growing Congregational Leaders,
by Elsie Rempel and Karen Martens Zimmerly.
At a 2008 bi-national meeting on lay leadership, participants identified the need for practical resources for pastors and lay leaders as they call out and nurture the gifts of children, youth and adults. This 40 page booklet is the first result.
We want to be a vibrant church that provides the leadership we need to carry out Jesus’ commission to “Go therefore and make disciples of all nations” (Matthew 28:19). It is Mennonite Church Canada’s prayer that this booklet will foster a gift and leadership discovery process for many and thereby help the church bless the world through a growing body of leaders.
Nurturing the gifts of potential leaders helps deepen our commitment to forming a people of God, to becoming a global church and to growing leaders (MC Canada’s three priorities). The booklet has just been distributed to participants at this Assembly’s Ministers’ Conference, Nurturing a Vision for Engaged Congregations. A complimentary copy will be coming to each congregation of Mennonite Church Canada in the July/August issue of Equipping, but at this event hard copy booklets are available for sale at the Resource Centre (the $5.00 cost helps recover a portion of the development and printing costs).
