Network Performance: Critical Success Factor
How will the network perform for voice, video, and desktop
sharing?
What is current and expected performance and quality to
cloud UC destinations like Skype for Business Online or Microsoft
teams? Or between physical sites for any UC platform?
How does the current performance compare against the
Microsoft minimum requirements and SLAs?
What and where are the network problems and what
improvements or fixes are needed to ensure overall
performance and a quality user experience?
Click to edit Master title styleWhy network readiness assessment?
Discuss and apply recommended practices; assess the impact to the network; set up the project for successful deployment; perform a traffic simulation to provide insight
Real-time communication is very sensitive to network quality; people have high expectations when it comes to voice quality
Manage risksIntroducing new workloads to the network always creates some risk that the new solution might not perform as expected; existing solutions might suffer due to emerging bandwidth bottlenecks

Assessment Estimate Calculator
Assessment Planning: Calculating # of Assessment
and Assessor Units (AUs) Required
• An assessment calculator can
be used to determine how
many AUs are needed to be
purchased.
• Enter quantity of major sites,
data centers, and branch
offices to test from.
Assessment Network Troubleshooting Planning: Calculating #
of Network Interfaces
• As a general rule, you can estimate the # of Network Interfaces at 2x the number
users.
• To obtain accurate count of Network Interfaces (NIs) download the Network
Interface Discovery Tool http://pathinsight.ir.com/download/IntDiscoveryTool.zip
Step 1: Enter the IP address range or ranges that you want the program to scan to
find SNMP manageable devices.
Note: It is advised to not enter class A or B subnets to scan, as it might take many
hours to days to complete the scan (each class C subnet takes roughly 30 seconds
to complete).
Step 2: Enter the SNMP credentials to use to detect devices.
Step 3: Choose which interfaces should be included.
The tool will scan the specified subnets and find the SNMP manageable devices
and interfaces. When the tool is finished, it will save a file named
IntDiscoveryToolLog.txt. At the end of this file, it will display the total interface count
that matches the network.
Note: The IntDiscoveryTool program can be launched again to scan the same
network with different options.
