Four special classes at no extra cost: Gymnastics, Music, Spanish, and Swimming
Two-year-olds receive music instruction. Ages three, four and five receive expert instruction in basic gymnastics (balance beam, uneven bars, vault table and tumbling), music (songs, rhythms, voice exploration and use of simple instruments), Spanish (simple phrases, words, colors, and numbers), and swimming (water safety, basic swimming skills and skill progressions). These special curriculum additions increase your child’s learning experiences and add multiple ways to have fun. Only children attending five days per week get instruction in all four courses.
For information, tours and to register, call Geri Smiles, Director of Childhood Education at 203-869-6501, ext. 221 or email [email protected].

DIVERSITYAt YWCA Greenwich, we are proud of our international preschool population.
We believe it is important for young minds to begin to understand and appreciate others in their classroom who look different and come from different cultures.
Today, we teach children of various racial, ethnic and economic backgrounds who represent not only the United States, but also the countries of Australia, Brazil, China, Colombia, Denmark,
England, France, Germany, Holland, India, Ireland, Japan, Mexico, Nepal, Russia, Spain and Uruguay.
Older students take “Trips Around the World,” where they “visit” a country, sample food and listen to parents tell about that particular land. The more we can teach the young about the
differences among us…the more we build toward a society that embraces diversity.

Group Rip A resistance band based class focusing on rotational movements to develop core strength. Also incorporates traditional strength movements to give a total body workout.
Vinyasa Yoga The term vinyasa refers to the alignment of movement and breath, a method which turns static asanas into a dynamic flow. Standard vinyasa consists of the flow from plank, to low plank, to upward-facing dog, to downward facing dog.

Group Exercise
15 Minute Abs A follow-up class focusing on abdominal strength using various exercises and modalities.
Aqua Core High intensity core training on dry land and in the pool. Pupils work on toning their bodies through High Intensity intervals designed to stimulate the core. The pool adds a great addition for stretching and working against the natural resistance of the water.
Ballates Round out your workout with Ballates. Using the physio ball, this class incorporates the principles of Pilates, core strengthening, and flexibility with balance challenges and a touch of ballet.
Ballet for Adults Classes are based on classical ballet technique, which emphasize balance, coordination, flexibility and posture, using the ballet barre and center floor work.
Body Barre A total body workout that lifts your seat, tones your thighs and burns fat in record time. Using the ballet barre to perform small isometric movements, it has proven to be a fast and effective way to change your body. Each strength section is followed by stretching to create long lean muscles without bulk. The workout requires such intense focus that it allows you to block out “life” for an hour.
Body Sculpt A strength and cardio infused class combining dance, weights, and resistance training elements designed to improve strength and cardiovascular fitness levels.
Boutelle Lifetime Fitness Designed to improve posture, body alignment, flexibility, and muscle tone using strength movements set to live piano music.
Core, Strength & Balance Class designed for seniors focusing on strengthening core muscles and improving balance.
This 60-minute barbell program strengthens all the major muscles in an inspiring, motivating group environment with fantastic music. Group Power
combines simple athletic movements such as squats, lunges, presses and curls. It is for all ages and fitness levels.
Hatha Yoga This particular system of yoga is the most popular, and it is from which several other yoga styles originated. The word “hatha” comes from the Sanskrit terms “ha” meaning “sun” and “tha” meaning “moon”—thus Hatha Yoga is known as the branch of yoga that unites pairs of opposites referring to the positive (sun) and negative (moon) currents in the system.

The Dolphins Swim Team is a competitive, age-group program that holds memberships in Connecticut Swimming, Connecticut Y Swim League and United States Swimming, Inc. In its 46th year, the team provides the community with a highly successful program that teaches members team spirit and camaraderie while building physical and emotional strength and speed. Swimmers reach for the highest possible level of competitive achievement and development. Many members of the older National Team also compete at local high schools on water polo teams, in addition to swimming with the Dolphins.
All participants are evaluated by the coaching staff for placement into one of six team levels. Stroke, start and turn technique instruction, endurance training, and mental preparedness are all key team components of the Dolphins winning tradition.
The Dolphins Team – excellence-rated in the top 4% nationally by USA Swimming – won a pool full of medals in meets within Connecticut and around the country. Led by 12-year-old Meghan Lynch and 14-year-old Kate Hazlett…the Dolphins continue to set records in individual events and relays.

YWCA Greenwich is the only agency licensed in the community to treat victims of domestic violence.
Each of us has the right to feel safe and secure in our own home and with the people we love.
While all relationships have conflicts, some cross a line and become abusive. Abuse is a pattern of coercive behavior that seeks to control and exercise power over others. Abusive behavior can take many forms: physical, emotional, verbal, sexual, and financial. Domestic violence can happen to anyone, regardless of skill or educational level, race or ethnic background, religion, marital status, physical ability, age or sexual orientation. No one deserves to be abused. It’s never your fault! If you are being abused, you have the right to seek help…right now.
Understanding Abuse - Warning SignsDomestic Violence Is Not Just Physical Abuse
Verbal Attacks: Name-calling; mocking; accusing; blaming; yelling; swearing; making humiliating remarks or gestures.
Pressure Tactics: Rushing you to make decisions through intimidation; threatening to withhold money; manipulating the children; telling you what to do.
Disrespect: Interrupting; changing topics; not listening or responding; twisting your words; putting you down in front of other people; saying negative things about your friends and family.
Abusing Trust: Lying; withholding information; cheating; being overly jealous.
Emotional Withholding: Not expressing feelings; not giving support, attention, or compliments; not respecting feelings, rights, or opinions.
Minimizing, Denying & Blaming: Making light of an abuser’s behavior and not taking your concerns about the abuse seriously; saying the abuse didn’t happen; shifting responsibility for abusive behavior; saying you caused it.
Economic Control: Interfering with your work or not letting you work; refusing to give you or taking your money.
Isolation: Preventing or making it difficult for you to see friends or relatives; monitoring phone calls; telling you where you can and cannot go; taking your car keys or otherwise preventing you from using the car.
Stalking and Harassment: Making uninvited visits or calls; following you; checking up on you; embarrassing you in public; refusing to leave when asked.
Intimidation: Making angry or threatening gestures; use of physical size to intimidate; out shouting you; driving recklessly or threatening to harm other family members; threatening to report you to welfare or other social service agencies.
Destruction: Destroying your possessions; punching walls; throwing and/or breaking things. Threats: Making and/or carrying out threats to hurt you or others.
Sexual Violence: Degrading treatment or discrimination based on your sex or sexual orientation; using force, threats or coercion to obtain sex or perform sexual acts.
Physical Violence: Being violent to you, your children, household pets or others: slapping, punching, grabbing, kicking, choking, pushing, biting, burning, stabbing, shooting, etc.
YWCA Domestic Abuse Services’ highly trained Staff can help you build a specific, manageable and effective Safety Plan that will give you confidence in your ability to protect yourself and your children.

After the Storm of SeparationA special group for women, divorced or separated from their abusive partners, addresses how to pick up the pieces and start anew…how to put in place the emotional and practical building blocks to a stable, fulfilling existence. The group consists of other women who have survived the “storm.” Guest speakers will tell their stories to demonstrate that starting over is truly possible.
A Women’s PlaceA Women’s Place is a self-care and empowerment workshop for women survivors of domestic abuse and sexual assault. The goal of the program is to help women reclaim their lives, one step at a time, in a safe, loving and confidential environment. Participants will learn how to self-soothe and calm the storms of their inner lives, as they begin to create a life that honors them. Classes will include the book, A Woman’s Place, by Wendy Hilsen-Bernard, simple yoga poses, group and individual exercises.
Common Ground for MenMen can be victims of domestic violence too. The “Common Ground” group provides an opportunity for men who believe that they are in abusive relationships to share their common issues and concerns in a safe and confidential environment. Men will learn about the series of behaviors typically demonstrated by abusers and the steps that they may need to take to feel safe and secure.
Dealing with DivorceDivorce can shatter a woman’s self-esteem and wreak havoc on the life of her family. This group, led by a licensed clinical social worker, will address the emotional fears and frustrations of dealing with divorce, as well as providing practical information regarding legal, financial and custody matters. Questions about finances, custody and other legal issues will be addressed.
The safe and confidential group includes stress reduction techniques, including guided meditation and relaxation. It is open to women in beginning, middle or recovering stages of divorce.
Banana Splits®: Divorce Support Group for ChildrenBanana Splits® is a support group for children who have experienced parental divorce. The purposes are: to provide a safe place to express feelings, to normalize feelings through sharing, to train children in problem solving and coping skills, to increase self-esteem through mutual help, to support parents working with their children and to increase communication among children and parents.
Activities teach children of divorced parents how to help themselves and each other. By creating a supportive community, Banana Splits® aims to counteract the day-to-day impact of divorce on teenagers and young children.
Financial Empowerment• Receive information and strategies
to address the complex financial and safety challenges while in or ending a relationship with an abusive partner.
• Learn resources and strategies for working through quality of life changes that one may face while feeling abuse.
• Use financial fundamentals and basic steps to build a strong financial base including budgeting, saving, building credit, managing debt and working with creditors.
• Explore long-term financial planning that includes credit repair, asset protection and investing in retirement.
• Learn to make financial decisions from a place of knowledge, instead of fear, ignorance or habit.
ScreamFree® ParentingOur ScreamFree® Parenting group will cover 12 ScreamFree® principles that focus on the basic premise that emotional reactivity is to blame for our strained relationships with our children. There are many forms of emotional reactivity that can hinder our relationships. By reducing our own anxieties, focusing on ourselves as parents, and learning to operate from a cool, calm, and connected stance, we can create the relationships we desire to have with our children.

Crime After CrimeWinner of 25 awards, this riveting documentary by filmmaker Yoav Potash tracks the legal battle to free Debbie Paegler, an imprisoned survivor of domestic violence.
Battered by her husband Oliver Wilson, who also molested her daughters and forced her into prostitution…then threatened with the death penalty and wrongly prosecuted by the Los Angeles District Attorney, Debbie ended up serving 26 years behind bars.
But neither abuse nor jail could crush the spirit of this determined woman.
