We have the customized systems for all different fields of application.

Due to close cooperation with uni versities, and research centers, latest scientific knowledge is available during process engineering.

Applications of environ mentally friendly systems for biological gas treat ment increase steadily nowa days. The polluted gas passes through a pourus carrier. The microorga nisms settling on the organic carrier convert air pollutants into CO2 and water.

LIKUSTA biofilter systems are de signed as single or multistage units according to the actual require ment for instance with a preset humidifier, bio- or chemical scrubber.

Following materials are used: Plastic materials like PE, PP, FRP, as well as coated steel, stainless steel, gratings made of recycled plastic or FRP.

The filtermaterial can be modified with a special bacteria solution to allow ac cel arated adaption and growth; though optimal unit operation is pos sible from ear ly stages. The filter material is du rable in terms of strength and op er at ing temperature range.

Wet scrubber

Gas scrubbing systems absorb gaseous pol-lutants in liquids as water, sometimes with added chemicals.

LIKUSTA scrubbers can be manufactured as single- or multistage unit, round, angular, upright or horizontal for indoor or outdoor construction.

Possible constructions are available:

Selection of material is determined by application. Most contaminants contain corrosive gases.

Therefore material must be capable to endu-re permanent contact with high and low pH gases and scrubbing solutions. Material range: PE, PP, PVDF, PVC as well as FRP in a composite construction.

Our scrubbers are fi lled with high quality ab-sorbing packing material for safe unit operation.

Processes based on physical-chemical-absorption as well as biological or chemical oxidation are possible.

SULRED biotricklingfilter

Our SULRED biotricklingfilter combines the advantages of biofilter and bioscrubber pro-cesses for purifying waste gas. The process is a combination of absorption and adsorption as well.

SULRED biotricklingfilters are used for appli-cations, whenever organic odours in combi-nation with high H2S concentrations have to be eliminated (e.g. composting, sewage treat-ment). Waste gas flows through a biomedia trickling layer. An automatic controlled spraying nozz-les system is installed above the biomedia trickling layer in order to spray water with nutrients and minerals water onto the trickling layer. The nutrient liquid ensures optimum biological process conditions for the micro-organisms, which settle to the surface of the trickling layer’s carrier material. The microor-ganisms convert the pollutants into CO2 and water. The nutrient liquid re-enters the filter by spraying nozzles due to a circulation system.

As packing for the trickling layer we use a spe-cial corrosion resistance synthetic material.

This is extremely durable and convinces with an over 10 year performance time. No high civil works costs occur, because of the light weighted packing material.Alternatively the use of inherent material is possible.

In comparison to bioscrubbers there is no need of using oxidizing agents at all.

For a complete odour removal we recommend a

combination of:

SULRED biotricklingfilter: pH gradient removes H2S and other

organic odours

activated carbon filter, AKF: removes residual odours

Activated Carbon Filter

Activated Carbon Filters are designed and used for the removal of vapors and odours which still may be present within the air or gas flow.

The main odorous gases commonly found in

sewage / biogas are:

The activated carbon filter adsorbs vapors and bind them to the surface of the activated car-bon. The zero odour level is reached by contac-ting the air through a bed of activated carbon in an adsorber. The carbon bed is sufficiently deep to assure complete odour removal at the nominal working point, but also at unexpected or seasonal peak concentrations. The contact time be tween the air and the activated car bon should be between 2-4 seconds.

We provide catalytical carbon for special appli-cation of H2S-removal. The H2S will be catalyti-cal converted into elemental sulphur and can be washed back by water. Despite the thick bed depth, the differential pressure remains very reasonable. Indeed, the pelletised car bon type water regenera-

ble 4 mm size, is assuring 25 % less pres sure drop than a con ven tion al gas phase carbon. The reduced pres sure drop results also in 25 % energy cost savings.

The air leaves the filter free of ob jec tionable odour. Potable water only is used to wash the saturated carbon. Special catalytical carbon designed to remove at least 99 % of the odo-rous gases from air within a temperature range of 0 – 60°C and a humidity range of 40-100%.Easy replacement of used carbon: No need of chemicals, storage tanks, pumps, special safety in struc tions, trai ning for handling chemi cals, safety showers, special chemical resistant clothing, safety glasses etc.

Chlorine neutralization

Chlorine-Emergency-Neutralization de vices are scrubbers for the pre vention of chlorine release in case of accidents caused by leakage of chlorine from storage tanks, drums, chlorine bottles or chlorine dosage facilities used in water treatment and chemical industry.

An alarm is activated by a chlorine alarm sys-tem, that activates the LIKUSTA-chlorine-puri-fication-unit. A chemical resistant fan sucks the ex haust air in the LIKUSTA counterflow filled scrubber. An appropriate amount of washfluid (10-20% NaOH) is sprayed via nozzles into the counterflow by means of an immersion pump.

The heat of the chemical reaction during the washing process is absorbed by the washing liquid itself.

A chemical resistant bulk packing is installed inside the chlorine neutralization tower(s) for fast and effective chlorine absorption. The packing material provides a maximum wetted surface at minimized unit size and pressure drop.

Before the neutralized exhaust air leaves the scrubber, mist and aerosols are retained by a demister unit with an efficiency of 98 %.

The chlorine neutralization unit in cludes pumps, fan, and control panel for automatic operation.

The columns are equipped with separated flange to ensure an economical transporting. The as sembly of the unit as well as the start up can be done by customer since all compo-nents are pre-assembled and pre-wired. Of course units also may be delivered as a complete assembled unit.

Overfertilizing of water with phosphate lets the government to put very low limits on the operators of waste-water treatment plants for feeding phosphates into the waters.

The phosphate elimination by the chemical precipitation, a physical-chemical reaction with iron or aluminium salts, allows for main-taining the offi cially allowed maximum con-centration.

LIKUSTA off ers a broad spectrum of dosing sys-tems. Its fi eld of applications ranges from small waste water treatment plants up to grouped waste water treatment plants with dissolving station for iron salts.

Increasing nitrate discharge values induce operators of waste water treatment plants to use carbon dosing technology to ensure observance of limit values and efficiency of effluent treatment units.

Supplemental of diverse C source substrates expands biomass´ activity respectively exclu-des the lack of nutrient by operational distur-bance or shutdown during weekends.

Size of operating unit and choice of substrate is determined by waste water treatment plant.

Possible substrates are acetic acid, glucose etc. without any ex-proof requirements. In case of non observing limit values, methanol and ethanol feeding is appropriate to increase de-nitrification rate. But if the substrate is overfed, it will not be completely consumed by the biological process which will result in elevated effluent biochemical oxygen demand concentrations.

Ground water treatment

The LIKUSTA chlorinated hydro carbon strip-ping facilities operate following the counter-flow principle and are available in a single or multi step design.

The ground water polluted with hydro car-bons is atomized via high efficiency packing materials, which increases the required wetted surface.

Simultaneously fresh air is blown through the packing material into counterflow and thus it takes the pollutants from the water. This pro-cess performs an efficiency of more than 99%.The polluted exhaust air is purified by adsorp-tion with activated carbon.

Soil vapour extraction

By extracting the air out of the well, a vacuum builds up in the surrounding soil which causes evaporation of the chlorinated hydro carbons.The contaminated air is led through activated carbon filters.

This technology is used to remove volatile hy-drocarbons from a contaminated soil area. In a first step a bore hole generates a well for the contaminated air.

Desorption facilities / CO2 degasser / degasifier

LIKUSTA desorption facilities are used as me-chanical- physical de acidi fication facilities in waterworks for the reduction of CO2, for ad-justing the pH value or for the removal of toxic and / or odorous smells.

We offer the following types of facilities
