SIGNIFICANS OF THE ODIA LANGUAGE

The odia language is the mother language of Odisha. It is the sixth classical Indian

language. It is the first modern Indian language that is recognized as classical

language. The cabinet of the parliament has passed the resolution on dt.20.02.2014

to recognized Odia language as classical language. The government of India

published the gazette notification on dt.11.03.2014 odia as the sixth classical

language. It is the language of 2500 years old. From the time of Buddhist the udria

language became odia language in modern age.

HISTORY OF ODIA DEPARTMENT

The post graduate department of odia is started in North Orissa University on

24.08.2012. Dr. Bichitranath Sahoo is the first lecturer in this department. There

were twenty six numbers of students in the first admission batch 2012-13. There was

30 number of seat for student admission in primary stage. The admission seat

strength is increased from 30to 60 seats in year of 2014.
