The hypothesis proposed by me on the generation and propagation characteristics of l ow latitude Pc3 geomagnetic pulsations has been widely discussed in Magnetic Pulsations research in various countries notably Japan, USA, Canada and Australia.

10 . (ii) DETAILS OF SIGNIFICANT CONT RIBUTION TO KNOWLEDGE: KNOWLEDGE:

(a) For the first time in the south ern -hemisphere, I studied the Spectral, Cross -spectral, Polarization and Inter -station characteristics of Pc3 geomagnetic pulsations. The recording of the data and analysis work was undertaken by me at the University of Newcastle, Australia.

(b) I have proposed a hypothesis for generation and propagation of low latitude Pc3 geomagnetic pulsations. The study was undertaken at the University of Newcastle, the University of Wollongong, Australia and is still being continued at A.M.U.Aligarh.

research work in the field of Pc4 Magnetic Pulsations employing data obtained from the Indian Institute of Geomagnetism (I IG), Navi Mumbai.

1 2. (iv) EXPERIENCE OF INDUSTRY OR PROFESSIONAL FIELD WHICH SHOULD INCLUDE INNOVATION AND/OR RESEARCH OR DEVELOPMENT:

I undertook the experimental and anal ysis work on the I undertook the experimental and anal ysis work on the dependence of electrostatic precipitator's parameters on vario us electrode geometry configurations at the University of Wollorgong, Australia (February 1985 - August 1986) . The analysis was carried out for utilization in B.H.P. ( steel works in Australia for their Electrostatic precipitation work in the company.

1 3. A NY OTHER WORK RELEVANT TO THE QUALIFICATIONS FOR THE POST APPLIED FOR DONE SINCE LEAVING COLLEGE WITH DATES:

I have research experience of about 3 8 years (1977 -201 5 ) in the field of Upper Atmospheric Physics (Magnetospheric Physics) with extensive Upper Atmospheric Physics (Magnetospheric Physics) with extensive comput ing experience in FORTRAN language using VAX -11/780. PDP -11/70. PDP -11 -10, UNIVAC computers and microcomputers at (i) the University of Newcastle, Australia, (ii) University of Wollongong, Australia and (iii) Aligarh Muslim University, Aligarh.

1 4. ADDITI ONAL REMARKS:

(a) I have carried out the recording and the analysis of the characteristics of Pc3 geomagnetic pulsations occurring over a period of six months from March 1982 to September 1982. Pc3 geomagnetic pulsations are quasi -sinusoidal variations in the earth's magnetic field in the period range 10 to 45 sec. Over the last few years the generation and amplification mechanisms for these pulsations occurring on the dayside of the geomagnetosphere have been of particular interest from both the

7

geomagnetosphere have been of particular interest from both the theoreti cal and experimental points of view. These pulsations are an important diagnostic tool for the earth's geomagnetosphere and therefore provide a means for the geophysical exploration of the earth's magnetosphere.

(b) During the present time, the thrust are a of research is Atmospheric as well as Environmental Physics. The field of magnetic pulsations will play a vital and key role in the exploration of the upper atmosphere. It is

an area where R & D is still in progress. In India not much work has been carri ed out in the field of Pc3 and Pc4 geomagnetic pulsations.

I have stored and brought with me from Australia six months of Pc3 data recorded from four low latitude stations situated at Woomera, Broken Hill, Newcastle and Launceston. A day's data from a si ngle station only consists of 36,000 data points. This data is providing a useful data -base for developing research in the study and exploration strategy of the magnetosphere. and exploration strategy of the magnetosphere.
