A: Upload a quality, professional photo by going to your profile page and clicking on the camera icon that will appear when you hover your mouse over where your image should be.

B: Completely fill out your name, tittle, and location.

C: Update your contact info. Supply as much information as you can.

We all tend to be visual people. Adding clean, professional photos will allow your network to better connect with you. Don’t want a picture of yourself up? Find a picture of a topic that you like such as an industry photo, object photo, or sports photo. This will still allow your connections to relate to you.

Two.Complete your professional

Background.

A: Complete each background section. (Summary, experience, skills etc.) Complete as many sections as you can. To edit or add to any of these sections, hover over the section you wish to complete and either click the pencil icon that appears or click the “+ add” button.

B: You can also upload images, videos, presentations, or other documents to any of these sections. Adding these validates you as an industry leader and professional.

Write a good summary about yourself and your company. Be sure to choose the right words that describe your companies story (history, services, goals, missions etc..)

Make a list of words that will describe your company and your responsibilities. Choose a small handful of those words and use them through out your profile. However do not over utilize these words, your summary should still sound natural. These important “keywords” will allow others to find you based on your specific talents.

Create a Gallery: upload photos from projects, events/tradeshows, or company reports etc.

LinkedIn is a place meant to share and connect with other professionals within our industries. Having complete information and visual content will allow others to interact and engage with your professional accomplishments. This will also make you more noticeable on LinkedIn search results.

Four.Join LinkedIn Groups!

A: Click the drop down menu to the left of the search bar, enter in a topic that describes your profession or your organization. Example: plant manager, industrial construction, maintenance or engineer professionals. Find groups with great discussions where you can contribute your knowledge and also learn from others.

Joining discussion groups increases your visibility and reputation of being an industry leader.

When looking for a group, make sure to look at the topics of the discussions that are already going on. Ensure that good, knowledgeable information is being exchanged that you are interested in.

Groups allow you and your companies presence to network within your industry and gain valuable connections. Profiles are much more likely to be viewed when you are active within LinkedIn Groups.

See what groups your connections are apart of, and join those groups to better network and maintain a valuable professional relationship.

Every time you publish or share something, your connections will see it in there news feed and hopefully share and comment on your post. This gives you even more recognition as an expert in your industry.

Did you know? You can view how many people saw your shared updates and how far it got noticed into your 1st, 2nd, and 3rd, connections! Look on the home page, where you just shared a piece of information, on the right hand column it says: Who’s viewed your updates.

Six.Connect & stay connected

A: Now that you have been joining group discussions and sharing posts, your connections will start to grow.

When connecting with someone, be sure to include a personal message and always say thank you when they accept your invitation. Learn more about how to maintain your LinkedIn relationships and the end of this presentation.

Again, to the top right of your home page, LinkedIn will suggest others that you may know. These are people connected within your network. If you see someone that you would like to connect with, click into their profile, and again send a PERSONALIZED request to connect.

Additionally, when wanting to connect with someone, on the right column, you will see what connections, groups, skills, interests that you have in common with that person. These similarities are great for utilizing in your personalized request to connect.

A: Stay in touch, and send your connections a message every so often to share an interesting article or just to stay updated.

B: Endorse your connection for what they know well: project management, construction, maintenance, leadership? Recognize their talents.

C: Once you are connected with someone, the dropdown menu options are different. You can suggest an update to them, and give them a professional recommendation.

LinkedIn will also send you updates when a person changes positions, companies, has a birthday or a work anniversary. Be sure to say congrats. Your connections will remember these nice gestures.

Make sure your profile information is complete with photos, information, skills, education, experience, projects, videos etc.

Join and be active in LinkedIn Groups. Expand your network by connecting with the right people within these groups.

Find and share quality content that is entertaining or informative to your network

Connect with people that make sense to join your professional network. Send them personalized connection requests, and follow up with them once in a while.

Expand your LinkedIn relationship by endorsing their skills, providing them with a recommendation, or suggesting updates to them that they might enjoy reading.
